Even spending it by herself, Valentines was Lizzie's favourite time of year. Everyone was so happy and everything was so bright. The February sun was warmer than she liked, but Lizzie felt full of sunshine herself, in a place with so many people so happy. Sipping a cup of punch, Lizzie watched a couple of girls from her year making their way around the dancefloor, torn between genuinely feeling happy for them, and a twinge of longing. It felt like every time she got close with a friend they drifted away again, and it had been a while now since she had really felt close with someone. She was used to friends coming and going, and always knew she would be able to make new ones, but it would be really nice, to have a friend like that on a day like this. But those girls did, and they looked so happy, and so Lizzie smiled, finishing off her glass of punch and shifting her train of thought to whether she should take to the dancefloor herself or wait a while longer.

After delivering roses all day, Rose Holland was happy to be at the party to just have some fun without expectations or responsibilities. She enjoyed dressing up for parties more and more each year, and was happy with her outfit for the day. It wasn't too dressy, but it was nice and felt like her. She didn't spot any of her friends yet, but Rose was never shy about meeting new people. After grabbing some punch, she scanned the room for any friendly faces to approach. Her eye fell on a girl in Gryffindor like her, but a year above. She was on the quidditch team and seemed pretty awesome. After contemplating for a moment, Rose bounced over to her, though it caused her to spill some of her punch. She laughed as she looked at the small puddle near her feet. "Oops." Then she looked up at the girl, giving her a wave. "Hi, you're a fourth year right? Lizzie...?" She hoped the name was correct, otherwise she would be fairly awkward. "I'm Rose!"

Watching people sway across the dancefloor Lizzie got a little lost in daydreams, not really noticing what was going on around her until she heard the word 'Oops.' Looking over, Lizzie was surprised to see a younger girl she didn't recognise, with a little splash of punch at her feet. But the girl was talking to her, so Lizzie smiled back quickly. "Hi! Yeah, I'm Lizzie, nice to meet you Rose!" She smiled. "Are you enjoying the dance?" Lizzie wasn't sure how this girl recognised her but it was definitely flattering, and she chose to take it as an opportunity to make a new friend.

Rose was glad the older girl didn't seem annoyed to be approached by her, as it didn't occur to her until after she spoke that she may be waiting for a date. She was also glad to have remembered the girl's name right, and she gave her a bright grin. "I sure am!" She said in response to the older girl's question. "I always love these parties, they're so fun!" She looked around happily. "There's so many happy people having fun everywhere. It's the best." She turned back to the girl. "You're on the Quidditch team, right?" She asked her, as she was fairly sure she recognized her from the team. "That must be so scary!" Rose knew not everyone shared her fear of heights, though she couldn't imagine why, but even without that it seemed terrifying to her. Anyone that did it for a sport was very brave in her eyes.
