Kyle Martin had to say she was surprised she'd made a friend so quickly, and that he seemed interested in hanging out with her. Kyle had always thought she was a fairly boring and average person, and frankly being that she wasn't social, she hadn't expected to make friends outside of work. Not that she was social there either. Regardless the red head was slightly grateful. Having left her home in the United Kingdom, leaving her family completely behind and even going as far as to change her last name, the red haired woman was begining to feel a bit alone. Kyle tried hard not to think of the family left behind, and instead concentrated on smoothing the pleats of her hot air balloon-printed skirt as she waited for her friend. She'd not thought about what they would do, other than the fact that she was insistant that this wasn't a date. After all, her partner was a fairly flirtatious person. Shed' established that when they'd first met on the beach. Kyle gave a small sigh, at least the weather was lovely.

Casey's new friendship with Kyle had come totally out of the blue but it was a very pleasant surprise. Everything seemed to be going right for the former Slytherin, he had got the job with Gringotts and had already been on two assignments that had taken him to Egypt and China. Casey's intentions towards the girl were clear since the beginning but she was adamant that she just wanted to be friends. She seemed to have had a serious relationship before she moved out to New Zealand and she clearly wasn't completely over it, so for the time being he was going to be her friend because he enjoyed her company and he didn't want to risk loosing that. Casey arrived at Brightstone village where he had agreed to meet Kyle, who had been adamant it was not a date, he had agreed but it wouldn't stop him laying on the charm all the same. "Hey Kyle," He smiled at the girl as he approached her, he placed his hands on her arms and kissed her cheek. "You look lovely," He smiled at her, knowing she wouldn't be thrilled with him flirting with her but as long she didn't tell him to stop he would continue.

The fire engine-red haired woman leaned in and gave a polite kiss on Casey's cheek, but brushed off his compliment. "Thank you, platonically I think you look nice as well." She always made a point that they were just friends, feeling that if at that point in time if she was to get into another relationship it may end poorly like the last one, not that she thought Casey was anything like her ex-boyfriend. "How has work been for you Casey?" She asked, knowing he'd gotten the job he'd wanted after moving to the area. Kyle herself had finally found a decent flat, and was doing work that was often mailed or sent out to stores. It was decent money for her, enough to pay bills, but she wasn't living the life. She wondered though if Casey was, as she'd heard that many of the people who worked as curse breakers made decent money.

Casey couldn't help but smile at the girl when she told him that he looked nice but she took great care to make sure that he knew she said it in a platonic way. He did but it still bugged him a little that she was always so insistent on reminding him. Casey didn't know much about her exboyfriend only that whatever happened between them meant that she was not ready to move on with someone new, maybe she would be in time maybe she wouldn't but for the meantime he was enjoying being her friend. Kyle soon moved the conversation onto work, since their first meeting on the beach Casey had begun working for Gringotts as a curse breaker and so far he was enjoying his work. "Work is great, I've been travelling a fair bit, not been back long from Egypt and China before that, interesting countries can't wait to go back, how's your work going?" He asked. From their first meeting he knew she was a metal charmer but she had always been vague on the details of where it was she worked.

Kyle gave a jealous sigh at the countries he'd gotten to go to. She couldn't help but be envious of the travel his work gave him. She shrugged at the question. "Not as exciting as yers." She spoke, giving him a gentle and playful shove. "It's not hard working where I do, it makes it safer in my opinion." She knew that she'd have to give more information, about working from home, why it felt safe, and why she hadn't told him in the first place, but it was just precaution. She wanted no one to be in danger because of her past. Perhaps getting involved with someone who was a part of the death eaters, or whatever they were called now was a bad idea- but love was love and Kyle had let it blind her. The woman gave an almost sad smile, but a content sigh. "What do you want to do today?" She inquired curiously.

By the sigh Kyle gave out he figured she was jealous of his worldly trips. It was becoming a familiar sound, his father had made a similar sound when he filled him in on his new job, compared to his father who had sat in the same office for thirty years. He understood the mans jealousy. "Sure sure, is safe a good thing? One of the things I like about my job is that I never know what I'm walking in to and that can be dangerous, honestly it's an adrenaline rush I haven't felt since Quidditch," He sighed thinking back to his brief spells on the Slytherin team. Casey couldn't help but wonder what had happened in her life to make her crave a safe job, there was nothing wrong with a 'boring' or 'easy' job, he'd just never heard someone say a job being safe was a good thing. He didn't have time to dwell long however as the topic moved to how they would spend the day, Casey had to admit he hadn't thought that far ahead so he went for a safe option. "Wanna get some coffee and just see where the day takes us?"

The red-head smiled at him and rolled her eyes. "I guess, but I'd like to not be worried about dying every time I went to work." She nodded at his offer, she did like coffee and she enjoyed the company of the man beside her as well. Her large brown eyes scanned the structure of his face for a moment before she moved ahead of him, trying to forget the way his cheek bones raised when he smiled. She couldn't risk being with anyone right now, not until she knew there was nothing to worry about. They arrived at a stand to grab coffee and she ordered herself something sweet, extra sugars and whipped cream. She loved coffee and foods that were overly sweet. Before Casey could say or do anything she paid for her own and waited for him to pay for his - one more step in making sure he knew this wasn't exactly a date. Or it wasn't one at all. She had to stop herself from caving in to his beliefs, as she was sure he wanted it to be a date. "I hope it doesn't rain." She muttered, looking up at the sky, at the grey clouds.

Of course Casey understand her point, but the thrill of walking into danger was something he never knew he liked until he did it for a living and he couldn't imagine going to do a boring desk job now he knew what was out there. "That's one way to look at it I guess, I prefer to think of each assignment as an adventure, death doesn't cross my mind," He smiled at her. What he didn't say was their wasn't exactly anyone to miss him other than his family. He didn't have anyone to go home to so what was a little danger. They made their way over to the coffee cart and just so Kyle could prove once again she went first and paid before Casey was able to utter a word in defiance. He kept quiet on it and ordered his own, black coffee, no milk no sugars. He grimaced as he took a sip. Nice and strong. When she mentioned something about rain he looked up at the grey sky and shrugged his shoulders. "If it does my new place isn't far we can go there, and do platonic friend things,"

Kyle smiled ad looked at the sky once more. For a moment it was obvious she was thinking, before she pandered to his comment. "Okay, you know what, I don't wanna ruin my skirt, so why don't we just head there and do some board game things, or maybe like organize stamps." It was obvious she was joking at the last comment, she didn't organize or collect stamps, but it was semi-difficult thinking of platonic things off the top of her head other than talking, and Kyle didn't always enjoy talking about herself. She brushed her thick waves back off her head, feeling a small drop of water his her hand as she did. If they didn't hurry her dry clean only skirt might be a disaster, and so she waited for Casey to lead the way - wondering what kind of a place a guy like him who loved danger, owned.

Casey wasn't sure how she would take hisl suggestion to back to his place, there was potential for it seem like a date thing to so, but frends hung out at friends apartments. It was a thing. So he was glad that not only did she not object to his suggestion, she was actually on board with it. She did however make some 'suggestions' as to what they could do there as friends. He laughed when she suggested they could organise stamps. She may have been joking but she would probably resort to anything to ensure their hanging out remained platonic. "You're right and it is a nice skirt, so follow me," He led her off the main street and through a couple of side alleys until they reached the edge of the village where a small clustur of houses stood. But he didn't live in them. He reached and took her hand and they vanished from the spot. They appeared in front of an apartment door. Thankfully the apartment opposite Casey's was empty so there was never anyond in that part of the hall. "Welcome to my humble abode," he said opening the door.

The apartment.

There was a small part of Kyle that worried she was leading Casey on. She worried that he might assume she was just playing hard to get - and if she were honest she wasn't sure if he was right or not. The woman with her dyed hair and large skirt walked carefully behind him, her shoes clicking on the stone under them. There wasn't much time between the beginning of their walk and arriving outside and in front of a small cluster of houses. She was about to ask which house was his when there was a heat on her hand and she was pulled through a tight tube of apparation. Landing she nearly stumbled off her feet. "You could have warned me!" She nearly yelled. She could have been hurt, and besides that he was now holding her hand. The girl removed it slowly and walked into the apartment.

"Humble?" She scoffed, unbelieving of the fact that this was what he called humble. The petite woman walked forward and ran her thin fingers over the table top, and then looked back at him. "That was a dirty trick." She began teasing. "Apparation as a guise to hold my hand." She giggled. "So what should we do?"

Kyle's reaction to the sudden apparation wasn't wholey unexpected, it wasn't the nicest experience when you were prepared for it so to be blind sided by it can't be peasant. It almost amused him that she thought it was an excuse to hold her hand. He rolled her hands, even with her giggle he was a little surprised that she would think that. "No trick, had to be done, I mean we could have walked but it would have taken an hour and we'd be drenched, then again thenI'd have an excuse to get you out of your wet clothes so maybe walking would have been the best option after all," He grinned knowing such a comment would make her uncomfortable but it was ok, he was past expecting anything from the girl. He enjoyed her company and if being her friend was all he'd get, so be it. Going back to her humble comment he nodded his head. "Ok I admit, humble might not be the right word, it is a nice place I got lucky with it,"

Kyle raised a red eyebrow at him. "This is a legit question, do you ever think about anything other than getting me out of my clothes?" She asked. "Listen, Casey you're a great guy seriously, funny, kind of smart, and you have a job. Like my mother would love you." She sighed. "But I just got out of a relationship with a guy that I really trusted, maybe too much. And he trusted me, maybe too much. I can't afford to be in another relationship right now. Things didn't end well between us so..." She sighed. "It's nothing you should worry about but can we just keep this friendly?" She asked. Her eyes gave a sense of sadness behind them, something that she hadn't shown him. Her past relationship was messy and sporadic, and she knew it was trouble but had been with him since school and only found herself doubting them after graduating. "Maybe coming here was a mistake..." She whispered, though with the heavy rain beating down, there was no telling when she could leave.

Casey should have known better than to joke about getting her out of her clothes. It had not gone down well at all but what surprised him was she began to open up about her previous relationship, it had not ended well and it had clearly taken its toll on the girl and left her reluctant to enter a new relationship, but what she didn't seem to understand was he was joking. When she finished he wanted to hug her, but after her reaction to him holding her hand he refrained. "I'm sorry, I didn't know I was making you so uncomfortable, but it was a joke obviously not a very good one, stay the rains crazy out there, I promise we can do platonic things," He waved his wand at the fire and it burst to life. "Ok, let's try this again, we'll open up some wine and tell each other things that aren't depressing, what do you say?"

Kyle gave a bittersweet smile to her friend. She'd overreacted and she knew that. "No it's okay. Thanks for the apology though it means a lot." She rubbed her left arm with her right hand, and moved toward the seating he had. The petite teen nodded at his offer. It sounded nice to just sit and talk. "Yeah, that sounds great actually. And waiting for the rain to pass might be a good idea. What's going on with the weather lately. Seems like the second time this week we've been hit with a storm like this." The woman adjusted the way she sat and looked to Casey. She wondered what kind of weather he'd seen since he'd been all over the place. Dry arid deserts and heavy snow most likely was what she pictured. She wondered if there were any amazing oasis' in his travels. And maybe she'd go with him one day - as friends. Friends traveled together all the time. "Besides." She spoke getting on track again. "Don't we have stamps to sort?"

Case was glad to see that Kyle had put aside any thoughts of walking out the door and seeing her walk over to his sofa was a welcone sight. "I will go open a bottle," He made his way into the kitchen and pulled out a bottle of white zinfadel wine and two glasses. He poured as much as he dared into the glasses, the last thing he needed was for Kyle to accuse him of trying to get her drunk. He then carried them into the living room and handed one to Kyle. "I know, I almost forget it rains hereas it's usually so nice," He paused to take a sip of his wine. "I can't believe it only took us this long to start talkibg about the weather," He laughed when she mentioned having stamps to sort. "You do know don't actually have a stamp collection to sort, that might have to be something I get in for next time," He laughed drinking more wine.

Kyle looked at the glass he brought back which was only half full. He was conscientious about the way he was around her, and there was a ping of guilt in her heart as she feared that perhaps he felt he was walking on egg shells. That was no friendship to have. She sipped from the glass, surprised at the flavor - a classic white Zinfandel. "I'm starting to worry you're a seer since you knew this was my favorite wine." She joked with him, perhaps it was a coincidence. "No please don't, you'd be so boring if you made me do that." She chuckled. "Thanks for inviting me over, and putting up with me. I know I'm a bit abrasive but i promise it's not all pummis stone on the outside." The woman drank the rest of her glass. "Perhaps you should bring the bottle in, all the rain and talking gets me parched, I promise I'll pay you back though."

Casey smiled and shook his head. "Now if I was a seer I would have known better than to make some of the jokes I have," He laughed, despite it not going down well he was glad they had been able to move past his wet clothes joke. When she thanked him for inviting her over he shook his head, "It's my pleasure really, I don't get much company so it's nice to have you here, even if you are a little abrasive, it's nothing wine can't solve," Once she finished her drink and suggested he bring the bottle in he did just that and refilled their glasses being a little more daring with how much he put in her glass. Glad to see she was suggesting they drink more rather than him. The more they drank the more he filled her glass and four glasses and another bottle later he was more than happy filling her glass to the rim as well as his own. Though the topic of conversation hadn't moved on much. "The weather here is bad lately, if it keeps up you should come with me on my next assignment, I'm in Egypt a lot and its really hot," He left out the fact he was imagining her in a bikini. Even with the wine that might not go down well. "Friends travel together right?" He asked.

The time seemed to pass slowly and the storm outside raged, wind blowing and thunder cracking across the sky, accompanied by flashes of light that added extra light to the "modest" living room she was sitting in. By the fourth glass of wine, Kyle felt herself mildly tipsy. Her face was heated slightly with a rose color, and her finger ran around the rim of her full to the top glass of wine. She felt bad that he'd gotten a second bottle, after all this might have been expensive wine. The red haired woman laughed and looked at her glass before sipping. "I don't know. Maybe. They travel and get separate rooms. They go out to dinner but one of them checks out the server the whole time." She laughed a bit and gave genuine, warm smile to her companion.

Kyle reached a hand back and rubbed it on her neck which was heated, though she felt chilled. Through thick brown lashes she looked to the man on her right, staring for a moment into his dark almost onyx orbs. Something wouldn't let her look away. She was lucky to have made herself a friend - one her mother would like if she could ever go back home without the worry that the secrets she'd decided not to keep would get them hurt. For now though, she'd keep those secrets to herself, and for a moment she wondered if another secret would be so bad. Perhaps that was why she wasn't looking away - perhaps Casey could be another secret. However she knew that she'd never be brave enough. Even though it had been over a month they'd known each other - and over three since she'd ended her last relationship, she held too many reservations, and so she looked away, back at her trembling glass of wine.

Casey wasn't sure how long he had been back at his apartment now and he didn't care to know. He was enjoying the company of his new friend even if she was adamant they wouldn't be anything more. The weather outside had almost created mood lighting inside even along with occasional flashes of light. Casey was in an odd position, the mood of the room, the wine, the easy flowing conversation. If he had been in that position with anyone else he would have made a move, but Kyle had repeatedly told him they were just friends, she shot him down for hitting on her the night they met and there was no reason to think anything had changed, given she had freaked out about a joke a couple of bottles of wine ago.

The second bottle of wine to look at maybe had two glasses worth left in it, he waited for Kyle to finish her glass and without asking for or getting permission he topped her up and then his own. Two bottles down, he didn't mind it was meant to be drank after all. "I can guarantee you the separate rooms and going out for dinner, but I can't guarantee the server will be good looking enough for either of us to check out," He laughed a little before taking a sip of his glass. "Two bottles in how you feeling? He asked her.

Kyle had seen him eyeing the bottle of wine and finished her instinctively. She knew he was looking to finish it - wine didn't taste right to her if left open and in the fridge after all. She laughed at his comment and shrugged. "Easier on you that staring at me eat food all night." As she laughed she gave him a playful tap on the shoulder with the hand not containing her wine glass. She removed the hand slowly and looked into the glass before sighing. "I'm glad I met you Casey. i was worried I was going to be stuck here until things blew over back in the UK." Kyle was easily tipsy enough to vaguely allude to the fact that she left for reasons beyond her control, but not drunk enough to cry into him and tell him her sob story - if one could even call it that.

Looking up at him she licked her lips. "I'm sorry I've been so touchy about the whole boyfriend thing. Maybe this is exactly what i needed. Someone to talk to and be friends with and... someone like you." She smiled and put a hand on his knee, looking into his face once more. "Thank you."

Casey placed the empty bottle of wine on the table with the other. He knew for a fact there was at least one more bottle of the same brand on the wone rack but whether they would open it remained to be seen. She laughed at his comment about the server and said it would be better than staring at her eat food. He shrugged his shoulders, "I dunno, there's not much better than staring at you, just my opinion," He smiled at her and took a big gulp of wine. He needed to slow down, the bottle was empty after all.

In the moment when she told him she was glad she met him he had never wanted to kiss her more. He knew there was things in her past that she wasn't telling him but he didn't care. Maybe she would in time, or maybe not it didn't matter. "I'm glad I met you tol Kyle, I mean you didn't quite save me from a bunch of stuff that happened back home, but I happy to know you all the same," Her next comment surprised him somewhat but he just smiled warmly at her and took her hand in his and stroked the back of her hand. "You've nothing to be sorry for, I'm sorry if I've come across as pushy about it, I just thought there was something between us but it's ok if I'm wrong it's not your fault, I'm just glad I can be here as whatever ut is you need,"

A what not from the wine crept into Kyle's face as he complimented her and she giggled, a little more receptive to what he had to say in her buzzed state. "You're too sweet." She said, leaning back on the couch, her head tilted to look at him. She finished off her glass and leaned forward only for a moment so that she could set the cup down, and then back she was leaning against the couch. Her head lulled to the side a bit, but she made sure to keep her brown eyes trained on Casey's as he spoke.

Kyle's hand moved slowly from Casey's knee to his own hand and she gave it a small squeeze. "It's not that you were wrong I just didn't think I was ready." He usage of past tense might have been enough to spark interest, but if it wasn't the half inebriated - now caution to the wind - girl leaned over and pressed her lips gently to Casey's, giving into inhibitions that had held her back that day.

With the bottle empty what remained in his glass was all that he had left but rather than savour it Casey decided to to down the rest of his wine and put his glass on the table, Casey had to admit that hearing Kyle giggle made him smile broadly, it was one of the most adorable things he had ever heard. He was glad when she took his hand and squeezed it. With so much wine in their system Casey couldn't tell where this was going but he liked being her company so he didn't mind either way.

When Kyle said that he actually wasn't wrong but she didn't think she was ready, her use of the past tense wasn't lost on him but before he was able to respond or even really process what was happening Kyle had leaned over and pressed her lips to him. Without hesitation he returned her kiss leaning closer towards her.

Kyle shouldn't have been in that living room, on that couch, or kissing Casey. She should have gone home and should have just not made any friends. If her previous boyfriend discovered her moving on so quickly - by her standards - he might be even more mad than when she had decided she couldn't protect a death eater anymore. There was so much buzzing in her clouded mind, but in that moment she felt safe and she felt like she could let go, and so she did, not pulling away from the kiss until she absolutely had to.

When Kyle finally removed herself from her companions lips she felt her breath rushing into her lungs all at once and had to stop from giving an exasperated and drawn out breath. The metaphorical fireworks were going off behind her eyes, and whether that was because she actually liked Casey or because she'd drank the equivalent of a bottle of wine she wasn't sure, but she couldn't very well ignore it. So she moved closer to him, and followed the heat of the moment until the storm stopped and the room went dark from lack of lightening or lighting.
