Closed Uncanny Similarities

Holden gave a small shrug, finishing off his cupcake and ditching the wrapper on a nearby table. "Dunno." He said, trying to remember what he did actually do. "I read sometimes. Play rugby. Dirtbike." He shrugged slightly. "Paint a bit, I guess."

Eric was racking his brain for anything to do, wondering if they had like old lego somewhere or something, when Holden mentioned rugby. Eric’s eyes lit up. “Oh, I used to play.” He said with a grin. “So did Connor, for much longer actually. We have his old sh*t around.” He said, gesturing to the yard. “Wanna play?”

Holden hadn't even really considered the possibility that he might have something in common with his oldest brother other than their dad and their mutual distaste for Connor's behaviour. It was a surprise to see how much Eric perked up at the mention of rugby, and he nodded in agreement quickly. Holden had never played with anyone so much older, but it was a lot better than sitting around doing nothing and having nothing to talk about. "Cool."

Eric showed Holden to the backyard, and before long they were playing. He had to take it easy on him a bit, without seeming like he was. He knew that’d probably piss him off. In the end, they were both laughing and covered in mud as they were catching their breath, lying on their back. “It’s been years.” Eric finally said. “That was fun.”

Holden hadn't expected to ever enjoy himself at this house, resigned to sitting in the corner and glaring at anyone who came nearby. But rugby had always been one of his favourite things to do, and it was hard to stay angry at his so-called brother when he played such a good game. He could tell Eric was pretty out of practice, but it was a fun game and by the end he was flopped on the ground, caked in mud he knew his dad would be pissed off about. Good. He laughed at Eric's comment, nodding. "It was cool." He admitted after a moment. "You don't totally suck, even if you're rusty."

Eric grinned and ruffled Holden´s hair with his muddy hand, making him even dirtier than he already was. He hoped their dad would be pissed, though he´d take the total blame for it so Holden wouldn´t get in trouble. He had no idea how strict their dad was, honestly. “Be careful who you call rusty.” He joked, nudging him. Then he snorted. “You know, it’s kind of funny how alike we are. Especially when your… our dad is so boring.”
