Truthfully there were a lot of other costumes Eleanor was considering wearing tonight, but at the last minute she'd found a fake crystal ball (because her sister would've never let her use a real one as a prop), so Ella had gathered the remaining things from her own closet to put together this costume. And now she thought it was the best thing ever. She hadn't told her sister what she would be dressed up as but she hoped once she saw her that she wouldn't take offense to it. Ella had never seen her sister in action for a class, because she herself was still trying to decide whether she even wanted to take Divination or not, but she'd seen her playing with Tarot cards at home enough to fake some stuff if she needed to. But carrying tarot cards was not nearly as fun or dramatic as a crystal ball, so Ella had opted for that instead. As she stood by the drinks table, Ella asked the nearest person in as mystified a voice as she could, "Do you want me to read your future for you?" hoping they were drinking tea so she could pretend to read the tea leaves.

Mervyn and Leda had started planning their Halloween costumes over a month in advance, so now that the night to put them on had finally arrived, the Gryffindor couldn't wait to get down to the feast and show them off. After entering into the costume competition, Mervyn dragged Leda over to one of the many drinks tables, realising too little too late that there was a major flaw in the design of his costume. "'Ow am I gonna eat anyfin'?" he asked, suddenly feeling stupid. The food smelled delicious, and he was already thirsty under all his layers of clothes. A mystical voice prompted Mervyn to turn, where he saw Eleanor, a girl he recognised from class, dressed up like some kind of seer. He couldn't see her very well through his shirt, but he had at least had the good sense to use thin material where his eyes were going to be. "Oi, Leda," he said, nudging his friend. "''Ave a butchers at this. Says she can read our future. 'Choo fink?"

Leda had been very much looking forward to Halloween this year, and she thought she and Mervyn obviously had the best costume. One arm was linked around her best friends and the other swung a fake plastic chainsaw, and she let the Gryffindor drag her through the hall towards the snacks or drinks or something. She wasn't really paying too much attention if she were honest, more perplexed by all the other costumes in the room. It wasn't until Mervyn asked her a question that she peered up at him. He was taller than her with his fake neck on, and the Slytherin sniggered at his comment. "You're dead. You don't eat." she said simply, although wondered if she could snuffle away some treats for them later on. The red head peered in the direction of where Mervyn was showing her, and being more or less his eyes for that evening she proceeded to approach the girl. "Go on then." she added, although was absent mindedly twiddling the chainsaw around in one hand, motioning hacking at the poor girls neck when she thought she wasn't looking.

Eleanor couldn't quite tell where to look at the Headless person beside her because she couldn't see the person's eyes, but she thought she could recognize the voice of a classmate vaguely. When he addressed the person beside him and saw it was a girl named Leda, Eleanor could gander a guess as to who was under the costume, though she hadn't spoken to him much. She grinned as they seemed willing to participate in her 'reading' so Ella stepped forward directly in front of them.

Without asking for permission, Ella took the girl's chainsaw-free hand and one of the Headless man's hands and placed them both on the crystal ball, and then placed her hand on top of their own. "You need to touch it so it has some of your energy," Ella said, repeating what she'd often heard Kenny say about tarot cards, and figured the same would probably apply to crystal balls, right? Then the Gryffindor closed her eyes and hummed loudly as if concentrating on conjuring up images in her mind. "Hmmmm yes," she said in a mystified voice, rubbing her temples and trying to stall as she thought of something to say. Then she realized she was supposed to be staring into the crystal ball, so she opened her eyes again and stared intently at whatever parts of the crystal ball were still visible beneath their splayed fingers. She wiggled her own fingers as if she was conjuring up something from within it. "I see you tripping and falling a lot tonight," she said looking up at the top of the Headless man's neck, "and you will get a stomachache from eating all his sweets!" she said to Leda in a hushed, cautionary voice.
