It was the holidays and unlike most of her friends Briar Rowan a gryffindor student at HNZ had decided to spend the holidays camping out somewhere. there were several reasons why she had made this decision. the main one was that over the last two weeks of term the castle had become a depressing lace for her as she had been told that her adopted farther, Professor Jackson Margera, had been killed. she had then ventured into the forest with her sister and discovered that not only was he killed, he had been killed by centaurs. this had hit her doubly hard as she herself had been brought up by a family of centaurs, so not only had she lost her stepfather she had also lost her trust in her adopted family. she also knew that she couldn't return to Australia with the rest of her adopted family as she saw that because it was a centaur attack she was part to blame, every time she had looked in the mirror she had seen it haunting her eyes and she knew it would gradually kill her if she saw it in her sisters or any of the other margeras eyes.
she had spent the first day of the holidays n brightstone village collecting supplies for the trip, she would be able to collect most of the things she needed in the mountains but there was a few things that she needed. as soon as the sun set she mounted her broom and headed for the South Island. she had decided to fly at night so that she wouldn't be seen by any muggles, she didn't want to get into trouble from the ministry.
after a month in the mountains fending for herself, hunting and gathering she had finally cleared her head, and had come to terms with what had happened. she was enjoying the challenge that the life in the mountains had given her was enjoyable, a lot different form the forest of her home. this particular night she had set up camp in the shelter of a couple of rocks not too far away from the bottom of a cliff, but far enough away to be safe from rock falls. in front of her was a fire burning with a rabbit stew on bubbling on the top. briar gave it a stir before sitting down and looking out over the landscape. in the distance she could see a few muggle dwellings but up where she was as far from civilisation as she needed to be, although she was stating to miss human interaction a little, having lived at the school for the last five years she had gotten used to there bring other people around, even if t was just the professors ghosts and portraits there was still a feeling of them being nearby that up here was just rugged rocks and heather. at least the weather had not been too bad, it had been cold and she was thankful that she still had her thick furs from home but the rain had been good to her, holding off for most of the time she was out, and when it had come it had been in pleasant showers not damp mist and fog.

There were good days and bad days for Dederick. Bad days outweighed the good days, but he didn't complain much. He was the type of guy who took it how it was, unlike how he use to before when he was in school and was quick to punch anyone lights out. He could say he was changing for good of his own sake. Better himself in life, but life didn't cut him some slack right away. He refuse to return home back in Norway, which in his case wasn't a smart move for the seventeen year. He learn life was hard and order to survive it's harsh corners, he'd have to fine ways to make it through. Fishing as his jobs, didn't give him enough to survive. So he was force to go job hunting for a while, a while soon turn to weeks. A month already out of work and running on empty, he was becoming frantic and desperate.
------No works means no funds, no funds meaning no way he would get the wolfbane potion on time to skip another full moon. He was afraid he was to late in getting the potion, so he hide deep into the woods, losing track of time and the day he was suppose to change. Half a mess, he wander for days on end, waiting for the full moon to arise so that he could get over with the change. Last day of the month came, it was still light out, Dederick walk up towards a rocky hill, realizing he was going steeper up he hill. Oh well the further he went up the hill, the better.

Briar was just about ready to start eating her evening meal as she watched the sun sink. it had been a long day and when outside you got used to living in time with the sun. you woke at sunrise and went to sleep early not too long after sun set. as there was nothing to do in the dark, there was only the fire for accompany and watching the flames got a little boring after nights of doing the same. she had tried on earlier nights to tell herself the stories that she had been told as a child but they hurt and it always ended up at the same place, last year. when she had finally decided that the food was ready she heard something nearby. she took her knife and out it in her belt just in case she needed to protect herself and then headed over to the movement. "hello, who's there?" she called heading slowly away from her fire, it was still light but it would be getting dark soon and she didn't want anything sneaking around where she couldn't see.
after a couple of minutes he found where it was coming form. a guy she was surprised to see she had met once before was making his way past her camp. "hello there, I seem to see you a lot in the mountains for someone who enjoys partying" she said releasing her grip on her knife. he had an idea of who Dederick was and she was pretty sure that he wasn't too bigger threat.

Dederick something ravishing, the hunger pain his stomach started to bother him. He embrace himself as he grew nearer the smell and heard a few twigs snapping ahead of him. He wasn't ready to deal with the unknown, for his wand was somewhere inside his boat home. Luckily when he heard her voice, he was revealed he recognize it from somewhere. Letting his arms fall to his side, he sucked in the air to meet the eyes of the crazy red headed girl. (Blonde?) He heard her comment, unphased really after knowing it was her. "It's crap in those places, I'm all set with a pint on any day than be shagging up with those idiots down there" he walk over to the burning fire and sat down right on the log. He had a half piece smoke left in his front pocket. Taking it out, he use the fire to lit it up and took a drag from it.
- - - - - He offer some to Briar, "What are you still doing here? Don't you have a family or something?" he wonder curiously, she ought to have someone at least worrying about her. Like Dederick had his mom, which he hadn't been responding to her letters cause he's been to busy fighting a battle of his own with life.

Briar was glad that she had company she headed back to her camp following the boy, she knew that he wasn't the politest of people but right now that didn't bother her, it didn't even bother her when he lit a cigaret up, usually she hated the smell but right now there was enough rood smoke around to mask it and she just needed some human interaction. she sat opposite him giving the stew a quick stir. she was lucky that she had made more than enough for herself and had some to offer, they would only get small portions but that was better than none right. "you came just in time, the food is cooked. do you want some, its rabbit stew?" she said serving it up.
She waved her hand declining the offer, as she answered the question. "in case you didn't notice we are on a different island and a different mountain, but anyways, i needed a few nights up here to get away from everyone, you know what i mean, some time to clear my head. as for a family, i don't know if i have one any more, i guess i do but i am not sure if they want me after last year" she said. leaving her thoughts to trail behind her words. she passed him a plate and a fork if he wanted it or not and set about her own food eating it from the pot as she had only thought to bring one plate, thankfully though she had brought two forks.

Dederick didn't actually said yes for the stew, but he wanted some anyways. After she decline his offer, he finished his smoke and tossed away the filter at his side. He took the plate of stewed and started to savagely eat the food like he's never ate before. He slowed down remembering a human was still in his presents. "Thank you that was nice of you" he left the rest for later, he didn't know when he would eat like that again. "Here and there still your here in the mountains alone, bit dangerous?" he looked at her, and realize she was actually kind of pretty? Eh, green eyes, messy hair, rough around the edges?! Not your typical hag, he listen though he was staring at her more than listening. "What makes you say that?" he asked, picking up the plate once more from the ground. It was hard to ignore food, he scoop the spoon down in his stew and ate more on a moderate speed this time than devouring the whole feast an one bite.

Briar realised that he had declined her offer of the stew but the way he was wolfing it down made her sure he had wanted otherwise. she was actually glad that it had cooked okay, she had managed to catch the rabbit that morning, and it was a good job it was a big one. at his next question she smiled. "dangerous? I am sure that there is nothing up here that i wouldn't be able to beat if it came to it. and besides danger is half the fun of it don't you think?" she said maybe a little to confidently. she bent down over her food, the pan was still hot from the flames so she couldn't hold it instead it was on the floor in front of her. she could feels eyes drilling into her but she didn't make any move to either acknowledge it or stop him, instead after another mouthful of rabbit she looked up again and answered his question. "my stepfather was killed last year, and i don't know if the rest of the family blame me or not, i do" she said she didn't want to go into much more detail as she had spent the last month trying not to think about it, which was surprisingly easy when you had to put all of your energy into finding food, water, and shelter. "how about you, what brings you out here?" she asked wondering why the man was wandering out up the mountain so late in the evening, and so unprepared, after all it was winter.

"Oh" was all that he could say after hearing her reply. He knew first hand about losing a father, but being blame for it was another scenario. It's wise he didn't go on asking anything else. It wasn't his business in the first place, she been pleasant to tell him. "You know the same old same, same old. Trying to live and fight life the same time" what he didn't pay no mind too was the sky darkening so quickly, and the rise of the first night. He should have, should've been more cautious now that their was life nearby him. Reckless and selfish as typical Dederick can be, he pay no mind to the early sign. He felt dizzy all of a sudden and pressure ripping at the back of his skull. It was getting stronger by the minute, every nerve in his body was jumping right back at him. He shiver right up the arm, as the signs came he still didn't warn her what was about to happen. A month without wolfbane made him forget all the signs anyways, he had forgot all about these feelings.

Briar was glad that the conversation about the previous year had needed even though it had been an abrupt end. she knew that it wasn't her herself to blame but more her kind, but she didn't know how to express the difference without explaining her whole life story. something that she wasn't going to do in too bigger rush. she looked up and noticed that everything outside the circle of light that the fire cast was starting to loose colour. the sun had set and above the sky had quickly started to darken. she had missed her second favourite time of day besides dawn, she didn't mind though as tonight she would much rather had compony than watch the sun go down. "I know what you mean, you want to do want you want to do, but you also want to do what everyone else wants you to do." she knew what that was like, during school time she was the gryffindor prefect, quidditch chaser and what have you, where as in the holidays and breaks she was, well, here.
she looked back at the boy and saw that he suddenly seemed very uncomfortable. "are you okay? I promise i didn't poison the food" she said, serious to begin with but adding the lighthearted end to the question.

Dederick started to spazz, his whole body hung over for minute but every nerve cell was burning badly. He wanted to warn the human girl of the danger but as the transformation began, he had lost his sense of being a human completely. His form rip away through his human form, his lips curled. A low rumbling growl descended from them as they turn into the muzzle of a werewolf, much like a wolf, he bared very sharp teeth. His eyes became that of dark yellow, his fur thick ran through his entire body, and his bone broke through places till he finally was a werewolf. Dederick Cullen lunch himself right at Briar Rowan, he had no control so he did what any werewolf do, kill without mercy.

briar saw the boy transform before her eyes, now she remembered where in the moon cycle it was, tonight was the night of the full moon. the was lucky that the fire was between them so she had a slight head start, however her broom was in the shelter she had erected for herself and that was behind him. she her state of mind changed like a lightening bolt from relaxing by a fire to, not a hunter, the hunted. she turned and ran as fast as she had ever ran before, faster than in the forest, through her head came plans on ways to escape. there was not much for it but to run. she was thankful for her childhood where running was normal, and she was glad that she had kept it up, and kept her fitness levels high during her time at school, she had never thought that it would be as imperative as it was this evening.
then in idea came to her, there was a cliff not too far away and if she was thinking right she would have an advantage there, she may be able to climb it and four legs would be a lot harder. she turned her path around a wide loop heading for the cliff, she would hear Dederick behind her getting closer and closer. she threw herself full speed at the rocks reaching almost blindly for hand and foot holes hopeing that she could get high enough before he caught up to her.

Werewolf Dederick went chasing after his prey. He kept up his pace, generally wolfs were a lot faster than human but the girl was extremely fast. That taunt the werewolf more as he snap it's jaw furiously at the girl. He wanted noting more to tear her human flesh into pieces. And as she made a turn towards the cliff, he too twisted his run on the ground and follow her up. Because she was a human and had much of advantage over him, Dederick went sliding bit down the cliff. He however wasn't giving up, he snap his jaw again and this time he felt that he got a good taste of her ankle. Biting into her flesh, he was ready to pull her down and make a feast out of her.

However a bright light came descending out of the darkness, one that blinded his sight all around him. He didn't know what it was and why came out from out of nowhere?! It must have been magic, or something who knows, but the mystery light was bright, and he felt as if he was being force away from the girl.

Briar stopped, she had picked a bad crevice as only a little way up she had ran out of hand and food holds. also she could feel a stitch forming in her stomach, due to the sprint so soon after food. these two thoughts were only there for a moment as soon after she felt a stabbing pain in her ankle and she was pulled down onto the floor below.
the thought that this was the end until she felt something digging into her leg. she fetched for her belt and grabbed the knife she had put there earlier it flashed in the moonlight as she tried to reach the wolf, she didn't want to hurt him too much as she knew that Dederick wasn't in control so she used the flat aede and pushed with all of her might. she then angled it slightly hopping to give him a nick but nothing that would be too bad.

The unknown bind kept pulling the beast steeper down the hill side cliff. He was fighting and struggling to be set free, but the force was to strong. And out of nowhere he felt something hard hit him directly on his muzzle. He let out a growl, to defeated to fight back the unknown, Dederick wolf's form slid down defeated right back to where it started. He did what any werewolf would do, leaving the site to prey on something else. He lost his interest on the girl very quickly!

Briar didn't know what was happening. she saw the wolf retreating and wasn't sure why, there was also an odd static in the air around her. when she was sure that the creature had gone for good she felt the stress of the chase leave her, she was suddenly extremely tired, she was aware of her muscles throbbing from the exertion of the sprint, and she could feel her arms and legs aching from the climb, but that wasn't the worst of it. her ankle was throbbing like crazy she was pretty sure that the bate had broken it. but the area of shin where the bite its self had occurred was searing in pain, a pain that was slowly making its way up her leg. she knew what she had gotten herself in for and she was scared, one of the first times in her life that she had been fully properly scared. she was half way up the mountain with a broken ankle and had just been bitten by a werewolf. the only good thing she could think of from the situation was that at least the wolf had been scared away somehow.
As the night went on the pain spread from her leg to the rest of her body. her mind was also becoming effected by he bite. her thoughts were becoming less complex and more animalistic. like a dog or wolf that she was becoming she scratched her skin trying to make the pain go away, it didn't help she tried curling up and getting some sleep but the pain was too much. it was no longer a searing pain but a throbbing dull pain. she lay there shaking as the night passed, fully awake and , curled up at the bottom of a cliff.
as the moon set and the sun started to rise the pain receded from her body and her mind returned to a full human thought capabilities. however this was a mixed blessing. she was now fully aware of the situation she was in, and as adrenaline was no longer cursing through her veins the pain in her ankle and bruises and scratches was more real and intense than before. she new that she couldn't just wait there to be found, there was only one person who knew where she was and she didn't know if he would remember or if he did she wasn't sure if he would return. she had to find her own way out. she took the knife she had used the previous night and saw that there was a little bit of blood on the blade but thankfully not too much she then rolled up her jumper and slit the shirt that she was wearing underneath. cutting upwards in a spiral patten she was able to get a long enough pice of fabric to bind her ankle, she just needed to find a pice of wood for a splint. she crawled a little off the rock face she was on to the edge of the undergrowth and cut a branch off a plant. it was not large but good enough for what she needed. she tightly wrapped this around her leg. once she was sure that it was fastened tightly. she then tried to stand, after stumbling a couple of times she was balanced on one leg. she reached found a broken branch which would work well enough for a crutch as she made her way back to camp. progress was slow. but after what felt like an hour she reached the place that had been her home for the previous few nights. she packed up all of her things, there wasn't much to pack, in her bag, thankfully she like traveling light. she then took a blackened pice of wood and wrote on one of the boulders behind where the fire had been a quick note to Dederick in case he decided to come back. dederick. i am okay, and don't blame you for what happened. I have gone to st. mungo's to get it checked out and get as much healed as i can she then mounted her broom and flew, fast but not ridiculously fast towards where she knew the hospital was. it was still early and she stayed high and over the sea when she could to limit the chances she had of being seen by muggles, she had until this point been leaving her flying for night time but she was not going to wait all day on that mountain top she needed help, and needed help now.
once she reached the harbour she dismounted her broom and kept it hovering supporting her right shoulder and keeping the weight off her foot. she entered the hospital hopeing that there would be someone there who would help her.
