The staff table seemed almost empty, and the new nurse was in town. Technically, the castle, but whatever. The new nurse was not even a female. It was a male, and his name was Lucius Hunter Verdelet. This young man was a jokester, and loved to make people laugh, making him the big kid. However if someone was hurt, he would not object to some healing. He just thought that this palce would need a nurse or two, and what do you know, he was hired just like that! Lucius was happy that he was hired. However being on his first few days here, going on a week, he decided to socialize with someone. He needed a friend or someone to hang out with. Desperately. Lucius took a seat next to a professor, a female one at that. He guessed that she was a professor anyway. He had been to the library to see who worked there, and then went to the Hospital wing to see who worked there with. Sadly, none of them he really wanted to care for. But maybe time would tell that he would soon find someone to be friends with in this school, after leaving all of his friends back in England. He wished that they were with him here in New Zealand where he could actually have a job. Lucius needed the job, and he needed the money. He could not be a Healer at Saint Mungo's anymore after losing his house and everything else in the process. Brushing that aside, he noticed that the professor was still sitting where she was, and she had this beauty to her that he felt drawn to. Maybe it was just a male instinct or something. Lucius had had girlfriends during school, about seven or eight that lasted a year or longer. But he was with no one now.

'Being single is a blessing, I can look at women now,' thought Lucius. Looking upon his outfit he thought that he looked casual enough for today. He did not need his usual outfit, which was a white lab coat made of some rather firm cloth. It was not very comfortable. Slowly, Lucius started to inch his seat over to the professor, looking as casual as he could possible. He did not want to make things awkward and weird. He just wanted to make a friend. However he could not be held responsible for what words came out of his mouth. He normally spoke his mind, no matter how ridiculous it sounded. Lucius took a goblet and sipped the pumpkin juice from it, as he inched his way a bit toward her. He could not resist. He just kept on in small increments. Once he was right next to the professor, Lucius wanted to say hi and introduce himself, however what came out was this, "Well hey there, pretty thang." Lucius blinked his brown eyes several times to figure out what he said, and how he matched the British accent he had with a Southern American one. Well there he went and made a good fool out of himself. Lucius wondered why he spoke that when he was trying to go for something else, something a tiny bit more classy to impress her. Lucius sighed and he smiled brilliantly, "Er, anyway, I'm Lucius, I am a new nurse here. What do I owe the pleasure of speaking with today?" Maybe now he did not have to look like a complete ass in front of her.

But it seemed like it was too late for that.

Zinnia found herself lost in the book she was reading right now. There was an endless amount of things on her to-do list but she felt uninterested in doing any of it. The Divination Professor usually would have called this being lazy. But since this had to do with her own self instead of another she denied ever such thing. This book was just far too interesting to put down. Zinnia's eyes deeply bore onto the rusting pages of the book being held within her hands. Zinnia would not admit this to herself or anyone else for that matter, but she was not actually reading the book so much as she was just surveying the room around her. Students clambered about noisily. It was during dinner hour so there wasn't a massive amount of them. Just enough to where there was a dull roar of chatter about them all. It was her job as a Professor to keep her eyes out for any potential problem. But there did not seem to be any. Thank goodness for that at least. Zinnia enjoyed teaching as much as the next Professor did but when it came to dealing with personal problems or the drama that the students at Hogwarts tended to bring. Zin would rather not have anything to do with him. Zinnia flipped the page in her book and still pretended to read. Her thoughts went to her life back at home before Liliana left for school. Her sisters were not very dramatic. Liliana did not have much of a reason to be dramatic in the first place. At least that was the way it seemed. The young girl could not even see so there was a whole area of drama that was instantly deleted. If her luck would stay that way once she started school was improbable for anyone to really pretend if they knew or not. It would be something her sister would have to battle on her own. Liliana was the one that had chosen to go to normal Wizarding school when she could have remained home and not have to worry about all the things she could get tied up within at Beauxbatons. Zinnia didn't lift her eyes from her book completely but when she felt someone sit down next to her. The Staff table had been fairly empty for the majority of the night minus the occasional Professor or Hogwarts staff member that came around to have their dinner. Zinnia decided to ignore the figure that sat down next to her. He looked like a kid. He also looked like a bum. He looked like a mix of the two. Zinnia felt that he looked like something a classy female like herself wouldn't bother with. So ignoring him was just the best option.

Her long fingernails picked the page and flipped it again. Zinnia still pretended to read the text in front of her. To Zinnia it was close to being the most interesting thing around her right now. It proved to be a useful distraction from the man that was scooting closer to her own form. It was in small bits so Zinnia could easily see that he was trying to bother her. Why else would he approach her in such a way? When he was close and invading her personal space bubble Zinnia lowered the book down and rolled her dark orbs at his childish behavior. He then addressed her as pretty thang. Zinnia looked offended. Now she knew why the child was over here. He must have found her looks to be too much for him to handle. Not only was he immature but Zinnia could guess right off that he was also someone who was fond of the ladies. ”Hehe. You are a nurse? A male nurse correct? Oh that is funny!” Zinnia laughed at his profession. His name was Lucius. But Zinnia was a lot more focused on what he did for a living. Zinnia had heard of there being males that worked as a nurse before. But it made her laugh to actually meet one in personal. It took some time to get her giggles out but Zinnia managed to keep herself quiet. ”My name is Zinnia.” Zinnia sounded a bit on the snooty side but that was mostly a contribution from her accent and the annoyance she felt right now. Zin still felt that a part of her still think that Lucius was a little too unclassy for her tastes. Zinnia was not completely rude though. The least she could do was introduce herself.

Lucius hated sometimes feeling like a complete jerk, but sometimes he just let things come out of his mouth that should not have ever come out period. Lucius would need what he would want to say to this pretty professor, and he was dying to know who she was. He needed someone to show him around the castle, but right now he was just looking for friends and stuff around the castle. Maybe this woman would be his first friend. He did meet some professor, Styx was it? And well, needless to say, Lucius did not get anywhere with that Slytherin Head of House because that man was extremely stern and not very friendly. So Lucius thought that he should hang around others around his own age and that was why he was attempting to speak to this woman. Lucius' smile definitely frowned when she started laughing at his profession like it was something to laugh about. Lucius looked down and then he looked ahead. What was wrong with being a male nurse? Lucius looked down at his clean hands. Well, that was a bummer. He used to be a Healer at Saint Mungo's, would that have been more impressive? Lucius raised an eyebrow, and he said with a rather serious tone, because he did take his job seriously, "I used to work in Saint Mungo's, so healing is my specialty. Next time you get hurt, maybe you will consider not laughing at maybe one of the only people that can help you." Lucius took a drink of his goblet, before he turned his eyes over to the student body. His tone was not rude at all, as much as it was just stating the facts, what Lucius believed to be true. The former Slytherin began to wonder if he would even make friends here now. Maybe he won't. From the two staff that he had met, one was a hardass, the Slytherin Head of House, and this one had laughed at his profession. Maybe people in New Zealand were not as nice as he would have hoped. Lucius shrugged a bit before he decided to start eating. He had a piece of toast because that was all he could eat right now. He did have a rather big meal before he came to the staff table.

If only he had something to do right now, because he was dying to get away before he humiliated himself anymore than what he already had. Lucius finished off the toast and wiped his mouth free of crumbs. Toast was one of his favorite foods, and he loved to put scrambled eggs on the toast, but that was more of a breakfast thing, so he did not have that. Besides, he did not think that his so-called bottomless pit for a stomach was not so bottomless anymore. Lucius heard that the woman's name was Zinnia, and he wondered if she sounded like she had all the time. He didn't mean for him to say what he had said, but well, it was true to some extent. She was beautiful, only a blind man would not be able to see it. "Pleasure to meet you, Zinnia. I assume you teach, but if you don't want to talk to a fellow worker, I guess that is fine. To each their own. But if it is any liberation to you, I am sorry for what I said." Lucius summoned a magazine to him from his office, but it did take a while to get down here. Once it had, he started to read through it. The magazine was all about stylish clothing and hairdos that men could get this day and age in the wizarding world with moving pictures. Now that he was going to be bringing in some galleons, he would be able to afford all of these styles, which he was, actually, a stylish guy if he could have afforded it. He could not help what happened to him, but needless to say, sometimes Lucius was a complete push-over and he was very manipulated. However he hardly had any sour thoughts, as he flipped through the styles, hoping that one day he would be able to dress like that again. There was a reason why he and Jarrett got along so well. Lucius too had been through a hard time growing up, but not as rough as Jarrett. Jarrett took care of his two sisters, whereas Lucius just bounced from foster home to foster home until he was seventeen. And yet, Lucius still carried that smile at times, and was thankful for what he had.

Zinnia did not know how seriously the man took his job. If she had then she might not have teased him. To her, being a nurse was a silly job no matter the gender. Mostly because Zin had far from ant interest in the medical field. The thought of dealing with sick people made her shudder. Way back when Liliana was still at home, Zin even hated to tend to her. It was a silly job. But one of importance. Without all the medical personnel's in the world today, more might get sick and unhealthy. To Zinnia a nurse was about half & half. They were silly but helpful. It seemed to be that Zinnia had struck a nerve with this stranger by insulting his career. He must be new. "Relax, I was only fooling with you." He must have been sensitive. Maybe it was because he worked as a nurse for children? Zinnia liked to teach herself, but there were times when she damned herself for ever wanting to teach. Liliana had once been a handful to teach, herself. For someone being without sight, she knew how to put up a fight when she did not want to do something. Sometimes the Divination Professor admired her sister for being unable to see. There was a lot she could shield herself from. Sometimes things in this world were very ugly. People pitied a Liliana a lot. Zinnia wanted to be pitied sometimes. It would be a lot easier than people expecting as much from her as they did. Most often of the time Zinnia wanted to do little more than lie in her bed and read a book. But that would be considered as lazy and unproductive in her parents' eyes. But when Liliana did something such as that it was always something just short of a miracle. It was hard having a sibling that was so special. Even if Zinnia cherished her younger sister's existence. How as it fair to her that she had to live behind someone so special? Zinnia dared not to look into the man's eyes for fear of animosity within them. Zinnia did not mean to make him angry or mad. Zinnia could be a little bit snobby at times. It was hard for her to always make sure she was not going to say the wrong thing. It was not like he was not a little bit rude himself either. He did come over with one of the most informal ways of greeting a lady yet. They were both being immature. That was all Zinnia converted from this.

He knew she taught here. She was wearing robes that did not belong to any of the four houses so that might be a little obvious though. "Divination," He knew she taught. But not what subject she taught so Zinnia felt like it would be nice of her to specify what she did teach. Maybe he would make fun of what she taught? If he was going to do that, fine. Zinnia did not much like the subject herself. It was interesting and easy. But aside of that Zinnia was not over the moon for it. There was no actual class she would like to teach forever. But a job was a job. She was no longer needed at home so this was the next best thing for her. It gave her money plus a chance to get out of the house and experience new things. When Liliana graduated from school Zinnia might return back home to take care of her sister. But that was only if Liliana required some help. Which wouldn't be until a few years anyways. "Do you always greet women like that?" Zinnia raised her eyebrows at him. It would almost appear like she was teasing him once again. Greeting a woman with the words 'pretty thang' was pretty strange. It was not even flattering so Zinnia did not think he knew how to speak to a lady.

Lucius stopped looking over the styles when he had heard the woman named Zinnia say that she was only fooling him. Even if he did not know her that well, it sure sounded like she was picking on his profession, but there could be the possibility that she did not know how to show humor and sarcasm - or joking whatever in her tone. It was very believable, definitely had him fooled. Lucius looked over at her before he started to laugh a bit. He should have said that he was a doctor and not a nurse. They were close to the same thing when it came down to the school. He would have to cut her some slack, she had no idea how personal he takes his job, which is something. He had to fight to even be hired, so it meant a lot to him. Lucius always had to fight for everything, but he never fought the woman that he was with before she took everything and left him practically homeless. Lucius smiled, "You must not be the type to help people. Kind of hilarious what these kids will get into though. Makes awesome stories for friends and stuff." Lucius shrugged his shoulders before he flipped the page in his magazine that he was reading, and his honey eyes remained upon the pages like they were the bible. Lucius rarely held a grudge against anyone, and his fingers stroked his chin for a moment, before it went to get the goblet. He drank from it, before setting it down, and it refilled itself. Oh how he loved magic! He reached and he took another drink, and it was just as fresh as the previous glass. Lucius flipped through the page, and started to wonder why he had said what he said like that. Normally he blurted out whatever came to mind, but never anything like that. He could not control himself, but he figured that he was just taken aback with how beautiful the professor was to him. He had no idea that she was Part-Veela. To him, it was natural beauty.

The moment that she said that she taught Divination, he looked over at her, and he wondered how anyone could bother to teach that subject. Sure, he liked it and all, but he did not believe in those forces or whatever to predict the future. If that was true, something in the stars would have told him what that one woman was planning on doing to him. Lucius nodded, before he commented, "Interesting subject, but I never did well in it. I couldn't make out tea leaf shapes, but palm reading seemed easier." He shrugged lightly, but he did not know what all the lines meant and how it shaped a person. Lucius figured that Divination was similar to Ancient Runes, with all the stones to predict the future. Both subjects were to be honored in some way. Even if half the time, Lucius was asleep through both of them. It was naptime to him, and somehow he managed to pass through the exams. He barely had to try and he did well. Not the best but well enough to get by. Lucius looked over at her and a dust of red appeared on his cheeks when he was asked if he had always greeted a woman like that. Of course not! But what if she did not believe him? Lucius thought for a moment, and he realized, they just met, why should he care? Oh yes, first impressions were always the best. Then he was screwed already. However, he figured that he was going to have some fun. The red hue faded before he chuckled, "No, never. I generally ask if it hurt when they fell from heaven or if they were a parking ticket because they had fine written all over them." Just by his tone alone, one would tell that he was joking. "But really, I don't know why I said that at all. I normally just say something like, 'hey' or 'hi'."
