Truly Madly Deeply

There was still a lot of the school year left, a lot of stress on the horizon and a lot of final moments would be coming around over the coming months. One of those was the final Yule ball for James and he couldn't think of anyone he would rather spend it with than his girlfriend Maddie. When they had gone the previous year they had met in the common room and walked down together but James had suggested they do something differently. After putting on his suit and sneaking out of the common room James now stood in front of the Great hall entrance where he waited for his date. He wanted it to feel like they were kids again like it was their first Yule ball together. James knew it was silly but soon they would be graduating and growing up so for one night only he wanted them to just enjoy being together before everything got serious.

It was a moment that Maddie and James had been dreaming about for years, and now, it was finally here. They were going to the Yule Ball together, as a couple and Maddie couldn't be happier. Their whole past had been forgotten about and all that mattered was the here and now and the two of them. She twirled her finger around the last curl and took a deep breath before leaving her dormitory to meet the man she loved. She carefully picked up her dress, one that Honoria and Maddie had spent hours looking for during the previous holidays, and walked down to the Great Hall. James and Maddie had agreed to meet each other at the bottom of the stairs like they were first years again and Maddie couldn't hide the smile on her face. As she emerged at the top of the stairs she saw James waiting for her and the familiar feeling of butterflies in her stomach emerged whenever she saw her boyfriend. She made her way down the stairs and came face to face with her absolute soul mate, her heart was bursting with love for the boy in front of her and she lay her hands on his shoulders and kissed his cheek before smiling at him.

James was strangely nervous as he waited in front of the Great hall. He alternated between putting his hands in his pockets. It was ridiculous, James had been dating Maddie for nearly a year but he still felt nervous, she still made his heart race and he still couldn't believe his luck that he got to call her his girlfriend. James saw a frill of brunette hair in the corner of his and saw Maddie making her way down the entrance hall stairs. He swore his heart skipped several beats and as she walked down towards him they may as well have been the only people there. Once she got to the bottom of the stairs and made her way over to her James finally exhaled and relaxed as Maddie placed her hands on his shoulders. "Have I ever told you, how breathtakingly beautiful you are?" James said placing his hands on her waist and holding her close.

The breath that Maddie seemed to have been holding in all the way down the stairs was released when James complimented her, she grinned and pulled him into a tighter hug. Everything was perfect and she didn't want this moment to end, she just wanted to live in it forever. "You're not so bad yourself" she smiled as she whispered in his ear before pulling away to look into his eyes once more. They always seemed to make her weak at the knees, she was glad she was holding on to James because she thought she may fall if she wasn't. "Do you want to go inside?" she asked her boyfriend while taking his hand in hers.

James didn't want to move from their spot where they stood wrapped in each other's arms. No one had ever had the effect on him like Maddie did. Her soothing voice in his ears sent shivers down his spine and he closed his eyes briefly and took a deep breath. James took her hand and interlaced her fingers with his own and finally broke his gaze with his girlfriend and began to acknowledge the other people around them. "I'd rather go elsewhere," He took another breath. "But yes, let's go inside," James was actually looking forward to dancing with Maddie, holding her close, losing themselves in the music. James wanted to enjoy their first and only Yule ball as a couple. It was going to be a magical night for the two of them and it was even better that it fell so close to their anniversary.
