Lesson Three: Learning Cuniculus (rats into rabbits)
Professor Odegard stood by the door to greet his students, smiling as they slowly found their way into the room. He left the door open just a crack before walking back towards his desk, having made a habit out of it even when he was sure all of his students were in the room.

"Alright, let's get started. I'm sure you all remember beginning Animate to Animate Transfiguration last week. Unlike last week, there will be no frogs involved. This time, we'll be practicing on rats. They're pets. They're clean. Let's not make a fuss about it. They're actually quite cute if you give 'em a chance." He glanced around the classroom, looking at the students specifically who typically weren't too happy to come anywhere near what was considered vermin.

"I don't want to waste all lesson talking, so let's get a move on. Make sure you memorise the incantation written on the board. Repeat it after me, Cuniculus!" Leif said, ensuring they all knew how to pronounce the incantation the rigth way. As soon as they had repeated it, he summoned the cage of rats the class would be using and lifted its lid. "Alright, come and get your new friends." He smiled, motioning for his students to come forward.

"Unfortunately I don't have as many rats to work with as I did frogs. Unless I turn some of you into rats to practice on. Depends on how well you all do." Leif joked. "In the meantime, I need you all to pair up with a buddy and attempt to turn one into a rabbit together. You might even make new friends or something. Who knows. Oh, and another thing. You can practice anywhere in the castle you want. Take a rat and go find somewhere indoors that is relatively quiet to start transfiguring. Just make sure you aren't disrupting other students or classes. I'm trusting you here, I'd like to believe you won't break that trust." Some of the students looked at him in disbelief over the fact he was letting them roam around the castle for the lesson. He was sure letting them practice in a spot that felt comfortable to them could actually have a positive influence on their work. As did working with another student. As long as they didn't try to turn each other into rabbits.

"I want to see you all having mastered the spell by next week. Now go! Practice! As soon as you've managed the change it into a rabbit, bring it back to my office for grading. See you all next week."

Roleplay the lesson and team up with one of your classmates (or pretend that you did) for full marks.
You might also post a seperate thread somewhere in the castle practicing with a classmate and post the link here for extra points.

Apolline was always pretty excited about the prospects of the celebrations. It had been enjoyable the last couple of times and she felt fairly certain that it would be enjoyable now. Apolline was getting herself ready for the day, gathering up books and notes and making sure that she had all the different things she would need for the day ahead. She made doubley sure that she had all of the necessary homework, not wanting to have the wrong pieces. Then she was ready and just headed out the door.

Apolline walked into the transfiguration classroom and took her usual spot in the room. She was quite eager for whatever it was that they’d be covering that day. She was enjoying the spell casting aspects of it. It was more spell casting than they tended to do. The gryffindor listened to what the professor was telling them about the spell they would be doing. She took one of the rats when she was allowed to, and after she had practiced the incantation with the others in the class. She remained in the room and pointed her wand at it. ”Cuniculus,” she said, and after a few tries, she managed to get the spell. She was very pleased when she did and then handed the creature back to the professor and headed out of the room.

Kyousuke stepped into the classroom, taking his usual seat near the front. Rats, it seemed was the thing of the day. Rats to rabbits. It reminded Kyousuke of a muggle magic trick. He was a bit disappointed that they'd have to team up but he found someone begrudgingly. "Cuniculus," he said confidently, and after a second try, managed to transfigure the rat into a rabbit successfully. brought it back to the professor for grading, pleased with himself.

Minerva listened attentively as Professor Odegard introduced the day's lesson, her curiosity piqued when he mentioned they would be transfiguring rats into rabbits. She wasn’t particularly thrilled about handling rats, but she knew it was part of the challenge. As he encouraged the students to pair up, Minerva quickly scanned the room, spotting a classmate she knew would be a good partner.

She approached the cage with a mix of determination and mild apprehension, picking up one of the rats carefully. It was surprisingly calm, and she found herself relaxing a bit as she held it. After memorizing the incantation, she and her partner decided to find a quiet spot in the castle, away from the usual bustle.

Once settled, they began practicing, taking turns attempting to transfigure the rat. The process was trickier than she anticipated, requiring focus and precise wand movements. Despite a few initial misfires, where the rat only partially transformed, Minerva felt her confidence growing with each attempt.

After what felt like hours of concentration, she finally succeeded in turning the rat into a small, fluffy rabbit. She couldn’t help but smile at their success, gently holding the rabbit before making her way back to Professor Odegard’s office to have their work graded.

Satisfied with her progress, Minerva felt a sense of accomplishment. The lesson had been challenging, but it was rewarding to see the results of her efforts. As she returned the rabbit and received her feedback, she made a mental note to keep practicing her transfiguration skills, knowing they would only get more complex from here.

Morrie eyed the rat with thinly veiled disgust as she grudgingly picked it up and held it at arm’s length as if it might explode at any moment. Hoping to get this over with as quickly as possible, she mutterd, "Cuniculus," and aimed her wand at the rat. Nothing happened. She tried again but still nothing and Morrie’s patience quickly wore thin. She hated this spell, and she hated this lesson and she hated Professor Odegard for good measure.

After several more failed attempts, Morrie was no closer to success when the lesson was over. She decided she wasn’t going to waste any more time on this stupid spell. Morrie left the classroom already planning to pretend she’d mastered the spell by next week.

It was hard to focus this week, but Lucy had a feeling her professors would understand the situation. It was just on the horizon, her first proper Quidditch game as one of Ravenclaw's starting Beaters. It was a responsibility she knew she had to take seriously after having done so well last year - this was not the time to slack off. Unfortunately, not slacking off in Quidditch made it much harder not to slack off in class - between exhaustion from practice and jittery nerves, it was all she could do to keep her eyes on the professors.

But she did her best, listening as Professor Odegard explained the lesson and taking a few quick notes. It sounded like a fun spell, if not all that useful, and Lucy hoped they would be learning the way to reverse it next week. If she was a cute little rat she didn't know how she would feel about suddenly becoming a bunny, that was FUR sure. (Ha!) She took a rat when instructed and paired up with one of her classmates, doing her best to block out everything else and focus on the spell. It took quite a few tries, but eventually Lucy was able to manage the spell, pleased with her efforts.

Hazel was looking forward to the Halloween feast at the end of the week, she had worked hard on her costume and she couldn't wait to show it off to everyone. She just had to sit through a few of her lessons first, which was frustrating. She took her seat in the classroom and listened as the professor explained what they were going to do. Hazel wasn’t thrilled about the idea of turning rats into rabbits. She took some notes on the incantation and the wand movement he demonstrated.

When it was time to do the spell, Hazel paired up with Lucy. She was glad the Ravenclaw was willing to grab the rat, as she wasn't entirely at ease with the animals. They took turns and tried the spell. It took Hazel a little longer than her friend, which was a shame. Finally, after several attempts, she succeeded in transforming the rat into a fluffy rabbit. When they were done with the lesson, Hazel gathered her things and left the classroom with Lucy.

Ever could not imagine that the professor had anything as gross to work with as the grasshoppers and frogs. That had been disgusting. She had taken two baths after that and still felt the slime on her hands. She hoped the professor would smarten up about what he forced his students to work with. She didn't have much faith though. A lot of her classes this year needed the professors to stop being so incompetent. The Slytherin girl tried not to always focus on how horrible other people were though. She needed time to focus on how amazing she was compared to them of course. With happier thoughts, Ever entered the Transfiguration classroom, her mood dropping instantly when she saw the rats.

She also sat in the back, but didn't want to be second class. Ever walked to the front of the room, glaring at the rats. This was cruel and unusual punishment. The Slytherin girl took her seat crossing her arms to show her distaste. She did not want to do this. The blonde girl listened to the professor. She did not care that they were pets. They were still rats. Gross disgusting and dirty rats. Ever was actually thankful that they had to be in partners. She could pass off the handling to them.

That was exactly what she did. Ever chose to stay in the classroom. She 'let' her partner collect the rat and rearrange it on the desk as needed. It was much better than Ever actually having to touch it. Ever pointed her wand at the rat thinking about a much more adorable bunny. "Cuniculus" she said. Nothing happened. Ever groaned and attempted it again. It was difficult to visualize this dirty rat as a cute bunny. But she had to focus.

Ever pointed her wand at the rat and pictured the bunny in her mind. "Cuniculus" she said. This time it worked. The rat grew in size and grew adorable ears that flopped to the side. Ever let out a loud squeal of happiness. She still didn't want to touch it. It was still a rat kind of. The professor turned it back into one moments after for her partner to practice. Ever kept her space. Finally when both had completed the task, they turned in the bunny, well her partner did. Ever followed along. That was that. Ever packed up her things and left the classroom. Maybe partners were too bad after all.
