Transfiguration 3:3

Lesson Three: Learning Cuniculus (rats into rabbits)
Professor Odegard stood by the door to greet his students, smiling as they slowly found their way into the room. He left the door open just a crack before walking back towards his desk, having made a habit out of it even when he was sure all of his students were in the room.

"Alright, let's get started. I'm sure you all remember beginning Animate to Animate Transfiguration last week. Unlike last week, there will be no frogs involved. This time, we'll be practicing on rats. They're pets. They're clean. Let's not make a fuss about it. They're actually quite cute if you give 'em a chance." He glanced around the classroom, looking at the students specifically who typically weren't too happy to come anywhere near what was considered vermin.

"I don't want to waste all lesson talking, so let's get a move on. Make sure you memorise the incantation written on the board. Repeat it after me, Cuniculus!" Leif said, ensuring they all knew how to pronounce the incantation the rigth way. As soon as they had repeated it, he summoned the cage of rats the class would be using and lifted its lid. "Alright, come and get your new friends." He smiled, motioning for his students to come forward.

"Unfortunately I don't have as many rats to work with as I did frogs. Unless I turn some of you into rats to practice on. Depends on how well you all do." Leif joked. "In the meantime, I need you all to pair up with a buddy and attempt to turn one into a rabbit together. You might even make new friends or something. Who knows. Oh, and another thing. You can practice anywhere in the castle you want. Take a rat and go find somewhere indoors that is relatively quiet to start transfiguring. Just make sure you aren't disrupting other students or classes. I'm trusting you here, I'd like to believe you won't break that trust." Some of the students looked at him in disbelief over the fact he was letting them roam around the castle for the lesson. He was sure letting them practice in a spot that felt comfortable to them could actually have a positive influence on their work. As did working with another student. As long as they didn't try to turn each other into rabbits.

"I want to see you all having mastered the spell by next week. Now go! Practice! As soon as you've managed the change it into a rabbit, bring it back to my office for grading. See you all next week."

Roleplay the lesson and team up with one of your classmates (or pretend that you did) for full marks.
You might also post a seperate thread somewhere in the castle practicing with a classmate and post the link here for extra points.

Callie walked into the transfiguration classroom and took her usual spot in the room. She was very eager to do another spell. She took out her wand and her notes and placed it down in front of her. Callie began by writing down what the professor told them that they would be doing. She repeated the incantation along with the professor and then was given a rat between her and the person next to her. She let them go first and then was able to practice herself. Callie pointed her wand and said ”Curniclus,” she had to do it a few times but did eventually get the spell to work. At that point Callie packed up and headed out of the room.

Enoch walked into the transfiguration classroom and took his usual spot in the room. His gaze moved to the professor at the front of the room as the professor told them what they would be doing. He repeated the incantation with the professor and didn’t bother taking any nots from what was said. Seeing absolutely no need for it. Enoch was surprised htey couldn’t get enough rats for this, surely it couldn’t be that hard to get more. But instead he just paired up with someone to do the spell. He cast it first, wanting to just get it out of the way and was very pleased when it worked on the first try of it. Then he just let the other person do the spell, mostly just now relaxing until the other person was satisfied.

Teddy entered the Transfigurations classroom and took his seat, ready to practice the new spell on rats. He way preferred rats over the frogs from last week. When it was time to practice the spell, Teddy paired up with @Audrey Beauchamp and selected a rat for them to practice on. He was happy to practice with her because she was smart, and they'd definitely be successful. He went with her to find somewhere to practice.

“Alright Audrey, you ready? Ah - whoops.” As Teddy fumbled to take out his wand, the rat broke free of his grip and ran under a piece of furniture. It took a while to catch the rat again, but once he did, he was more focused now to get the spell figured out. “Curniclus.” At first, barely anything happened to the rat, but he carried on, working with Audrey to gradually get the hang of the spell. It took a while as Teddy would get distracted and start talking about other stuff, but after a while, they managed to successfully transfigure the rat into a rabbit. A wide grin spread across his face, and he offered Audrey a high five. Teddy picked up their newly transformed rabbit and made his way to Professor Odegard's office for grading. He decided not to mention almost losing the rat to him.

Millie had struggled with her attempt at animate to animate transfiguration in her previous lesson so she wasn't sure she would fair any better transfiguring rats into rabbits. There was also the small issue of Millie hating rats so she would have to get over that for the time being in order to complete the assignment. She settled into her seat and listened to Professor Odegard as he told them the incantation, Millie repeated it aloud with the rest of the class and once the professor was convinced they had got the incantation correct he set them off to work and after assuring them the rats were clean he instructed the students to pair up, Millie paired with Veronica which was an easy decision and they both took it turns to practice. Millie wasn't able to successfully turn her rat into a rabbit once. There was one time her attempt caused a jolt and it looked like something might happen but she could have sworn she saw the rat physically shake off her attempt. To make it worse, she had to sit and watch Veronica successfully perform the spell. Once the lesson was over Millie put away her wand, grabbed her bag and left the classroom knowing she had to do a lot better next time.

Veronica was feeling pretty good about Transfiguration as she headed into Professor Odegard's classroom for their latest lesson. As with the previous lesson they would be practicing animate to animate transfiguration but this time they would be moving onto transfiguring rats into rabbits. Veronica could almost feel the shudder coming from Millie when she realised they would be working with rats but once Professor Odegard assured them they were clean and safe she seemed to settle and accept that she would have to do it. Veronica paired up with Millie at the professor's suggestion and they took it in turns to practice, Millie wasn't able to do it and when it was her turn Veronica took out her wand and got to work. "Cuniculus," She said firmly on one of her many attempts, but it was this one that was successful, she saw the disappointed look on her sister's face but she couldn't help but feel proud of herself for successfully performing the spell. She continued to practice until the lesson was over and once they had been dismissed she packed everything up and left the classroom.

The semester always seemed to fly by somehow. Maybe because she was focusing on classes and things? Whatever it was, she hummed softly as she straightened out her uniform and walked to class. She took her seat and looked up to the Professor. She had to admit that after the last lesson, she was a bit weary of trying any new transfiguration spells. She took a deep breath and found a rat and a partner- hopefully someone that would be willing to just let her help with the theory of the lesson over the spellcasting. She headed out with her rat, fully intending to work on this later. Away from everyone. She took a deep breath. This was bound to be alright, right?

Audrey wasn't exactly sure why two people would be working on one transfiguration. Wasn't there some muggle saying about 'too many cooks'? Nevertheless, she wasn't going to complain about teaming up with Teddy for it, as she was sure they'd absolutely nail this. As long as they actually caught the rat when it escaped. "Can't we just stun it?" she asked, though she supposed that seemed a bit taboo for Transfiguration class. Maybe it was about the exercise and animal handling. Or putting emphasis on the 'animate' part of the process.

"Right, so rabbits..." Audrey started, also finding herself getting distracted and going off topic, or getting caught up in conflicting details of how to make the rabbit even look once they got it there. But, eventually, and with enough focus, they were able to get the rat transfigured. She gleefully high fived Teddy back, though now she just wanted to learn how to conjure creatures so she could practice transfiguring them. All things in time, she supposed.

Dominic still had a few weeks of the semester left, and so he was looking forward to whatever his classes had in store for him. He had been trying to keep up with everything, especially now with his responsibility on the quidditch team and the extra classes. It was proving to be difficult, and all Dominic could do was try his best not to stress out about it too much. He often contemplated heading to the library to find some meditation books, but it just stressed him out even more as he supposed he could have been using his time to do better things. Trying to keep all of the thoughts out of his mind, Dominic made his way to his classes.

Dominic entered the defence against the dark arts classroom, wondering what creature they were going to torture this lesson. With a roll of his eyes, Dominic realised that it was a rat. How did the professor say that they were cute but then order them all to change them into something that they weren't? Dominic didn't like this class whatsoever and even contemplated skipping the next class if this was what each lesson was going to entail. He still paired up with a classmate however, letting them try the spell first. When it was his turn, he tried to imagine this poor rat turn into something a little bit bigger, but still the same colour. Its long tail would be replaced by a short fluffy one and its whiskers would be larger. Dominic was surprised that he actually managed to get it. Smirking a little, Dominic left the classroom at the end of the lesson once dismissed.
