Lesson Three: Learning Statua (chipmunk into statue)

This lesson was going to be a little more advanced than previously. As Leif entered the room, he nodded at the students already present before taking his own seat, waiting for the stragglers to file inside before closing the door. "Who remembers covering the lesson in which transfiguration was discussed as a punishment used to turn offending wizards into statues?"

It came with no surprise that most of the class raised their hands, which he was glad about. At least it meant his students had been paying attention. Something he knew could be difficult when he had spend quite some lesson time lecturing.

"We are going to perform something quite similar to this today." Leif remarked, to some shocked faces of the students. He bent down, pulling up a spacious cage containing a handful of chipmunks running around on a leafy habitat inside. "There is one difference. These animals will not be left as a statue for a length of time, unlike witches and wizards who were punished this way. As soon as I have graded your work, I will transfigure them back. This process will not harm the chipmunks, physically or otherwise. No, I did not raid a forest and capture them myself." He joked. "They've been conjured specifically for this lesson, so they aren't, to put it one way, real. I don't want to hear any objections, please. This branch of Transfiguration is necessary for even attempting later branches, so if you refuse to do the work now, you might as well not do it at all." Leif explained to them, knowing some students might feel the need to protest animal cruelty or some other such case, even if there was no use in that. He would never intentionally hurt any of the animals they worked with. Not even the insects. Which was why he was glad he was teaching the lower years and wouldn't have to tell his students about vanishing spells.

Leif calmly began to hand each of his student a chipmunk. He had gotten them from one of the previous professors, causing them to be quite docile, and used to a magical learning environment. He couldn't have students chasing them around all lesson, possibly harming the animal or themselves. Real chipmunks or not, it wasn't something he wanted to see. "Be careful and treat them with care. We don't want either of you harmed."

"The wand moment is the same we did last week," He explained as he wandered around the room. "Visualize your chipmunk turning into a statue of any material, the easiest and most common being wood or stone, then cast the spell. Metals are a little more difficult to do. The incantation is 'Statua'. Have fun and if you have any problems, I will be around to help you out." He wandered back to his desk at the front, tapping the remaining chipmunk with the tip of his wand. It lost its brown colour, instead shifting into a statue of white marble. He left the chipmunk that way for a minute so his students could see before turning it back the way it was before.

Roleplay turning a chipmunk into a statue for full marks. Feel free to rp me helping you.

Rosalind entered the classroom, her thoughts on the book she was currently reading rather than the class. Quickly, she tried to shift modes as the professor started talking. She raised her hand, remembering the class in question. Rosalind looked at the chipmunks curiously - they weren't native she was pretty sure, so hopefully none would escape. She dimly remembered something about Aotearoa having a delicate...something. It was a fancy word anyway. She felt assured by his words that this didn't constitute animal cruelty, and went up to receive a chipmunk. They were very cute, and she was a little sad to see it turned into a statue. "Statua!" she said once she was back to her desk, her wand in hand. It sort of worked, but the tail was still furry. She tried it again and this time it worked completely - a wooden statue of a chipmunk. Transfiguration was hard work, but it was usually fun.

Sunday was pleased with how the semester was going. She felt successful- doing better in her classes, more present, and she'd felt like she'd finally made strides in making a few connections. She was pleased with herself overall, and after a rather extensive morning routine to make sure she was perfect for the day, she grabbed her bag and left for class.

She was a little nervous for class today, even as she refused to show it. She took her place in class, taking out her notes. She swallowed hard as she found out they were doing a spell with a live animal again. Well, this will be fun, She thought a little bitterly, clutching her wand tightly in her hand. She took a few calming breaths, going over the notes she'd taken of the lesson. After a few tense moments, she gathered her chipmunk. It was the same painstaking process it always was- taking almost a half dozen attempts before finally managing the spell. She sagged in relief, feeling drained. At least when she had managed it, it had worked properly, turning her chipmunk into a proper statue on the first try.

Alana approached her desk with eager anticipation, knowing the lesson ahead was slightly more advanced than their previous work. When Professor Odegard arrived and began discussing their last lesson on transfiguration as a form of punishment, she listened attentively, recalling the historical significance of transforming wizards into statues. As Professor Odegard explained that they would be transfiguring chipmunks into statues, Alana felt a rush of excitement. While some of her classmates looked shocked, Alana remained calm, trusting that this was all part of learning more advanced magic. When she received her own chipmunk, she cradled it carefully, appreciating how docile the creature was.

After hearing Professor Odegard’s instructions, Alana carefully visualized the chipmunk as a statue made of wood. She practiced the wand movement, focusing her concentration. Then, raising her wand, she softly whispered, “Statua.” The chipmunk stiffened, transforming into a small wooden statue in her hands. Alana inspected her work, feeling a sense of accomplishment, but also mindful of the responsibility that came with such powerful magic.

She made sure to keep her focus as she waited for feedback, proud of her progress but ready to seek improvement if needed. The lesson had certainly left her more confident in her abilities as she prepared for the more challenging transfiguration spells that lay ahead.
