LOOKING DEEPER
History: Kei and Akari are a relationship born of nothing more than necessity instead of any actual love. They were married off young, an arrangement between their parents to try and build an empire. Both from predominant Japanese families, the whole thing was treated more than a business deal than anything else. Two young adults with no love for each other being forced together for appearances and power. Their whole marriage was just a face to put on, acting like a loving and successful power couple, when really, behind closed doors they barely had enough time for each other.
And, of course, any proper power couple needed a child in the middle of it all. And that was exactly why Toby was brought into the world. They didn't love him, they didn't even really want him around. He was simply there as a status symbol and insurance there was someone to take over the Oikawa dynasty when his parents finally passed on the torch.
The Oikawa Shipping company was a large household name in many magical families, known for having many fingers in many different pies of magical trade, importing and exporting magical items to and from Japan for large profit. It was only recently their company name made headlines for having some fingers in the wrong pies. Some illegal imports and money being passed under the table, bribes to the Ministry to look the other way. Suddenly, Investigators were knocking on their doors, lawyers prepared to throw the book at them. So, Kei and Akari did the only reasonable thing they could, they packed up everything and moved to New Zealand to avoid the heat, dragging Toby along with them for the ride.
Personality: All his life, Toby has been brought up thinking that he is the greatest thing since slice bread. He's from an important family, a silver spoon shoved down his throat and not wanting for anything. Anything he wants he usually gets. And it has turned him into somewhat of a brat, having no qualms in ordering people around like servants and not willing to take any criticism. He's judgmental, rude and completely unafraid to say whatever he's thinking no matter if it's going to hurt someone's feelings or not. All he cares about is making the right connections with people and only associating with people he thinks his parents will approve of and seeking out any connections than might benefit him in the future.
