Ever since the huge fight with his wife two years ago, Kalif Styx had been adjusting to shopping and other needs that Nicolette tended to while he was at work. It had been a hard road, but since Chavdar was dealing with issues, Benjamen was out, and Axel lost a leg, it was up to him to actually shop. In the middle of the grocery store, the first time in many decades on his own, Kalif stood with a list in his gloved hand, and a cart in the other. Even with a few of his kids still in the Manor, along with their children, he seemed to have no help with this besides collecting what they needed. Their diets were different from his, since they preferred more sugary products. Then Lanithro just graduated, so unless he managed to have another out there during a drunken stupor over the last two years, he had no more to raise. Life was supposed to get easier, not harder. Kalif looked to the list and saw that they needed dish soap.

The former Death Eater stood in the cereal aisle, which definitely did not contain such items. If it was potion shopping, wands or general dark items, he could find anything he wanted within seconds. No, not at a grocery store. Everything was different, and he hated every second of it. This would be the first and last time he would ever come out without someone next to him, showing him how it was done. Things were simpler with Nicolette around, and he never felt so lost. He had to take up the role of husband and wife around the house, and that was busy enough especially with Lanithro knocking up every female that walked. He suspected it was because he was upset his mother wasn't around. Kalif tried to help by saying that Nicolette was dead, but that made things worse. Now, when questioned, he stayed silent or changed the subject. There was no telling where she was. And be damned if Kalif would ever admit that he missed her.
