Third Years, Lesson One

"Good morning, everyone," Gabrielle greeted, watching as the students took their seats. "Welcome to third year History of Magic. For those of you who do not know me, like if you've transferred in or have amnesia or a terrible case of face blindness, I'm Professor Gabrielle Moncrieffe. I am sure you know by now how you are expected to behave in a classroom. We'll all treat each other with respect and we'll all get along just fine." At least she didn't really have to go through the rules at this point. "I don't mind whether you want to use quills or pens, whichever you are most comfortable using. As long as your writing is legible."

"This year we will have more essays, of course, but we will have some field trips."
She smiled at the students, hoping that would perk everyone up. "I hope you all have some muggle clothes on hand for travel. Let me know if you don't and we'll sort something out. I'll let you know well in advance before we travel so you can be prepared," she added, with a smile. While Gabrielle enjoyed books and studying history in the comfort of her room or the library, there was something special about going to historical locations, actually seeing the remnants of ancient civilizations and societies. Hopefully the students would enjoy them, too. "Educational field trips, in part at least so we can get away with it, but it'll be a nice change of scenery."

"I won't keep you too long today, as I'm sure you already have plenty of work to get to. Or plenty of gossip about your break and who danced with who at the Yule Ball to get to. I'm not judging."
She'd give them enough to do in time, but with how busy third year was she certainly didn't want to overload them. "Just a reminder that if you're struggling, be it with history, with any subject, or with anything else, my door is open - within reason - and I am more than happy to listen and try and offer a helping hand where I can. And if you want to engage in further history study, I am even happier to help you out there, too." People often had interesting niche interests in history that they wouldn't cover in the classes, and Gabrielle was keen to cultivate those interests if students were looking for a means to do so. "That's all. Have a good week! And make sure you come ready to write next lesson." With a slight smirk, Gabrielle waved off her students, straightening herself back up and tidying her desk as the students filed out.

Homework

RP the lesson. That's all!

Christmas had been nice. She would even describe it as nice and peaceful for the first time in her life. With just her parents and little brother, Sofi had actually enjoyed the break and the absence of her sister had been a relief, though she did feel awfully guilty about feeling that way. Now back at Hogwarts for the new term, she was getting used to the routine of classes again. She had History of Magic first and arrived for class thinking how it felt like ages since their last lesson in this classroom. She was grateful for an easy introduction back, one that didn’t involve lots of note taking. When the lesson wrapped up, Sofi packed up her things, slung her bag over her shoulder, and headed out.

Magne walked into the history of magic classroom and took his usual spot in the room. He glanced towards the professor as the woman got started. He didn’t take many notes, since there wasn’t a lot lot he needed to take notes off, the professor was just telling them what they would be doing but in no great detail. He nodded and then was pleased when it rounded off and took the time to tidy some of his old notes from the last semester of this class before packing up and heading out of the room.
