Third Years, Lesson One

"Good morning, everyone," Gabrielle greeted, watching as the students took their seats. "Welcome to third year History of Magic. For those of you who do not know me, like if you've transferred in or have amnesia or a terrible case of face blindness, I'm Professor Gabrielle Moncrieffe, and I teach first through fourth year History. I am sure you know by now how you are expected to behave in a classroom. We'll all treat each other with respect and we'll all get along just fine." At least she didn't really have to go through the rules at this point. "I don't mind whether you want to use quills or pens, whichever you are most comfortable using. As long as your writing is legible."

"This year we will have more essays, of course, but we will have some field trips."
She smiled at the students, hoping that would perk everyone up. "I hope you all have some muggle clothes on hand for travel. Let me know if you don't and we'll sort something out. I'll let you know well in advance before we travel so you can be prepared," she added, with a smile. While Gabrielle enjoyed books and studying history in the comfort of her room or the library, there was something special about going to historical locations, actually seeing the remnants of ancient civilizations and societies. Hopefully the students would enjoy them, too. "Educational field trips, in part at least so we can get away with it, but it'll be a nice change of scenery."

"I won't keep you too long today, as I'm sure you already have plenty of work to get to. Or plenty of gossip about your break and who danced with who at the Yule Ball to get to. I'm not judging."
She'd give them plenty of work in time, but with how busy third year was she certainly didn't want to overload them. "Just a reminder that if you're struggling, be it with history, with any subject, or with anything else, my door is open - within reason - and I am more than happy to listen and try and offer a helping hand where I can. And if you want to engage in further history study, I am even happier to help you out there, too." People often had interesting niche interests in history that they wouldn't cover in the classes, and Gabrielle was keen to cultivate those interests if students were looking for a means to do so. "That's all. Have a good week! And make sure you come ready to write next lesson." With a slight smirk, Gabrielle waved off her students, straightening herself back up and tidying her desk as the students filed out.

Homework
RP the lesson. That's all!

Apolline liked coming back to school, it was good, and enjoyable to be back. Apolline knew this would be her last semester of relative peace. She did doubt that Henri would join her in Gryffindor, but she knew that with him at the school she would opt to be keeping a little eye out. She was looking forward to her classes and everything else they would be in this semester, looking forward to duelling again, and everything else. Apolline grabbed the last few bits and pieces she needed and then headed out of the dorm room and to class.

Apolline walked into the history of magic classroom and took his usual spot in the room. She glanced at the professor as the woman got started on what they would be covering in the semester. She nodded along, making a note that they would be doing more field trips and more essays, both of which she was quite happy with. The professor then just gave them time to catch up with others or with work, and Apolline just took a bit of time to tidy her notes before heading out of the room.

Morrie took her seat in the History of Magic classroom and listened to the professor's introduction, wondering if the comment about legible handwriting was aimed at her. Whether it was or wasn’t, the comment irritated Morrie for the rest of the lesson and she was in no mood to chat when it ended. Once dismissed, Morrie was quick to leave the classroom.

Kyousuke was looking forward to history of magic more than any of his other classes. But he also had a strong feeling the first lesson would turn out to be more of an introductory one than anything. Kyousuke knew he had a strength in essays, and field trips were usually not a waste of time so he looked forward to the semester's worth of lessons. He didn't chat when Professor Moncrieffe let them. Instead he got out a textbook and read for the rest of the lesson.

Jean Lancaster-Snow most certainly missed his brother Avery, but at least Avery graduated and moved on to bigger, better things. Jean, on the other hand, still did not try out for the Slytherin quidditch team because the amount of people always deterred him. Jean did not want to get rejected, so he did not bother. Jean hoped that it might change later, which did not leave his mind as he walked to the classroom. At least he could sit with Apolline from now on, if she still wanted him to.

Jean walked in the History of Magic classroom and sat down in the same seat that he did the previous year. He smiled at Professor Moncrieffe as she greeted the class. They were told some of the expectations. That would include muggle clothes. Jean would have to make sure he had some that would pass for muggle clothes anyway. He thought that it was nice of Professor Moncrieffe to offer them help if they needed it. He smiled as he got up and left. He looked forward to the semester.
