The Sorting Ceremony

Cedric admired himself in his new uniform. He'd be waiting for this almost his whole life, and he was nervous it was actually happening. He gave a grin to his fellow classmates to-be, and followed the group through the great hall. All the faces sitting at the tables were staring at them, and he tried to find Libby. He felt an urge to do a little dance as his name was called out, and he pushed past the other students before walking up the stone stairs to a rather tatty stool and hat. "That?" he thought to himself. He sighed and sat down, facing the hall. It wasn't as daunting as when he had his back to it. Not Ravenclaw or Gryffindor. Not Ravenclaw or Gryffindor. He chanted to himself. He didn't really care as lon as he could have fun, but he didn't want to be stuck with the boring people.

"You want Hufflepuff or Slytherin? Those are two very different houses, my boy. Well, I suppose that makes enough sense for you. Hmmm... Alright. SLYTHERIN!"

Faiths heart rate was extatic. She was so nervous about this. She wasnt nervous about being sorted she was nervous about the houses that her closest friends will be sorted into. She always wanted to be friends with them and diddnt want a house name to get in the way of it.

Her breathing was deep and her palms were sweaty. She looked around the hall. The ceiling was very high and it was so mezmorizing to look up. The hall was packed with other unsorted students waiting nervously for there turn to site on the wooden chair and have the hat decide their future. He heart skipped a beat then began to flutter in her chest when she heard her name being call. She looked up and bravely walked up pretending like she diddnt care and that it was nothing to her. She sat on the stool and folded her arms across her chest and sighed. She diddnt want to look weak in front off all these people. The hat was placed onto her head and her future was decided

"GRYFFINDOR!"

Aimee was glad to be away from her sister. She stood there in her black wig in amongst the other first years. She was calmer than she expected and she was even smiling. A rare event for Aimee. Although she was getting impatient that her name hadn't been called yet 'My last name starts with D' she thought inwardly scowling 'How long can it take?' Her thoughts were interupted by the man in front of her finally called her name 'Darkhart, Aimee' With a sigh of relief that she hadn't been forgotten she made her way up to the spindly 3 legged stool in front of her. Sitting she closed her eyes and thought hard about the house she wanted to be in 'Slytherin, Slytherin, come on please Slytherin.'

"As you want. SLYTHERIN!"

Ella-Rose was nervous and cold. The day was cold and she had forgot her much loved gloves. Rubbing her hands together she studied her surroundings. She loved the look of the Griffindor Table with its handsome Red and Gold hangings. Closing her eyes momentarily she wished hard to be in Griffindor. Her eys snapped open when heard her name glancing around she gave a fake smile and sat down on the three legged stool.
She closed eyes again and started chanting inwardly, 'Griffindor, Griffindor come on!'

"Another one for GRYFFINDOR!"

Sally exhaled- she hadn't been aware she had held her breath in- when her name was called, and she made her way over to the hat. This hall was huge, and she felt like all the focus was on her right now and she didn't like it. She really wasn't sure why she was here still- she hadn't wanted to go to Hogwarts, and if her parents were alive she would be going to school in America and she wouldn't be here on the other side of the world practically- but here she was, and here the hat was, and very soon she was on the stool and the hat was on her head.

It was at least in her favor that her head was too small for it to stay up- the rest of the hall and everyone disappeared for the time being-and it was just her and the hat. She breathed in, and waited, still wishing she wasn't here.

"Oh, you'll enjoy it here soon enough, don't worry. Your caring nature places you in HUFFLEPUFF!"

With shaking hands and a thumping heart, Loreli entered the great hall. She had only made one friend that was in school; and she just couldn't seem to find the Ravenclaw. She was hoping that it could keep her from being nervous, but, no such luck. Without a friendly face to look at, Loreli was as cowardly as a mouse. She watched as child after child was called up to the podium, sat on a stool, and had a hat placed on their head. She head no voices until the hat called out their name. Could it read minds? That was the only explanation. After a few more names were called, she relaxed just the slightest. This was going in alphabetical order, she would have a little while to wait...

"Salenger, Loreli." She jumped at the sound of her name. How could she have been chosen so quickly?

She approached the place that was where she would sit, but, she didn't reach it easily. Halfway up the walkway, she stumbled over her shaking feet. After standing up, with a bright pink blush on her alabaster cheeks, she put her head down and finished her walk of shame. She opened her eyes and looked at the batered looking sorting hat. That's when her thoughts began.

'Poor hat; I wonder if it is in pain. It has to be at least a hundred years old. Though I suppose it's better then a sorting giant...' The hat was then place d on her head. 'Mr... Mrs... Um Hat...' Even in her mind her speech was shy, and meek. 'I k-know a little a-about the houses, I suppose, s-so I know that I wont do well in Slytherin. They a-actually slightly scare me. I mean, s-snakes are viscous; they eat spiders. A-Anyways...' She stopped thinking and hummed in her head the tiniest bit, the song he had sang. She knew it would be stuck in her head for an eternity. 'D-do you write your own songs?' She thought. Then, with nothing more to say, she thought of the different Jellybeans she knew. 'Apple, orange, tropical...' This would take her mind off things until she was told which house she would be in.

"Calm down. I need to see where you belong now. Hmm? My own songs. Yes. What else have I to do the rest of the year? You'll need to learn to trust more, but otherwise, you're a HUFFLEPUFF!"

Lilly stood out side the doors to the great hall, folded her arm and sighed. She was already very bored. She had quite high hopes of Hogwarts but now She wanted the whole thing to be over with. As the doors swung open she thought to her self 'at last!' she pushed her way to the front of the mob of worried looking idiots, wanting to get this whole thing over with. Right then, Slytherin, Lilly's here! She thought.

"SLYTHRIN!"

Lewis stood out side the doors to the great hall, and sighed. He was bored. He had quite high expectations of Hogwarts but now it was starting to bug him already. As the doors swung open he thought to him self 'at last!' he pushed his way to the front of the crowd, wanting to get this whole thing over with. Right then, Slytherin here I come! he thought.

"Indeed. SLYTHERIN!"

Cameron stood rocking on his feet as he waited for his name to be called, for him to be sorted. He looked around the hall and up at the ceiling, 'just like I've read' he thought. He wanted to be in Ravenclaw so much, he knew that it would be the best enviroment for him. 'Come on, I could be revising for something', he thought

"Revising for something? Well, you clearly have a lot to learn. RAVENCLAW!"

Dean gazed around the great hall as he waited amongst the crowd to be sorted. He thought about the book he had been reading on the way here. He wanted to get back to it, but also he so wanted to have the hat tell him that he was a born Ravenclaw. 'Come on, Come on', he thought, 'just hurry up!'

"A born Ravenclaw? Maybe. Maybe not. You know, some time away from your brother could do you some good. No? Alright then. RAVENCLAW!"

Rich walked into the great halll he was slightly nervous as this was when his fate would be decided for him.he watched as the endless line of students were sorted into different houses whilst waiting for his turn.As his surname began with` H` he was quite near to the beginning of the ceremony. as he heard his name being called he hurried towards the front of the hall sitting on the three legged chair.he really didnt mind where he went but wasnt at all keen at going into gryffindor.he thought as the hat sank down onto his head.please not gryffindor he thought awaiting the answer.

"What do you have against Gryffindor? No matter. You are a HUFFLEPUFF!"

Roze stood in the giant crowed of first years waiting to be sorted. She was nervous. Very nervous. She looked around, peering through the mass of students hoping to catch a glimpse of her older brother at the Gryffindor table. She couldn't find him. In the back of her mind she heard a voice call "Castro, Roze," but it took a second for her to register it was her. She walked slowly up to the three-legged stool where a kind looking Professor was waiting with the Sorting Hat. Roze sat down on the stool and continued to search for her brother as the Sorting Hat was placed on her head. Just before the hat slipped over her eyes and made everything disappear, she saw him. He gave her that warm, reassuring smile of his that always made everything better. That is when the hat began to speak.

"You, too, are a GRYFFINDOR!"

I stood waiting at the huge doors, my gaze flickering everywhere, trying to drink everything in before it was my turn. The blonde in front of me moved forward as her name was called out by the hat. My parents and brother had told me about this hat, it could talk for one thing, and it sorted you into whatever house it thought you belonged in. According to my family it didn't matter what house I was in, but I had already picked up on the differences between them. Which ones were apparently good...and which ones were bad.
"Harlow, Micaela!" I jumped, flinching at the booming voice of the hat, not to mention the use of my full name. Swallowing I looked back over my shoulder hesitantly. Before I could gather my wits I was propelled forward by a prod in the back. I strode forward, trying to keep my expression blank, not looking at any of the other staring students. Stumbling at the bottom of the steps I hoisted myself up onto the stool. The hat was on my head immediately and I swear I could hear its thoughts, mumbling their way into my head. I closed my eyes. I don't care what house I'm in, I thought to myself, wondering if the hat could hear me. As long as I belong there. A few seconds passed. Well maybe not Hufflepuff...that house seems to be the leftovers. My eyes were still closed I was getting impatient, what was taking this stupid hat so long to decide!

"Leftovers? Well you'd fit in perfectly with many of those leftovers. Regardless: SLYTHERIN!"
(Be sure to look over our Site Documentation for information on how to roleplay on HNZ. We prefer the third person, not the first person. :) )

Corvus walks up to the sorting hat. *please Hat let this be over quick * Corvus waits to hear what the hat has to say thinking of the house he wants and hoping the hat makes the right decision. Corvus was stunned at the beauty of the castle. His Family hoped he would be here one day, now their dreams along with his are coming true.He was nervous as he waited wondering if he will make his family proud with the house we will be put in.

"GRYFFINDOR, it is!"

Walking through the doors of the Great Hall, Tayla was amazed at the size of the school. While waiting for her name to be called, she stared at the ceiling, which showed the sky above. Up until a few months ago, she hadn't even known magic existed! Now here she was, about to learn it! Suddenly, she heard her name being called. "Brookes, Tayla." She pushed through the crowd, and ran up the steps. When she sat on the stool, she could see every one in the school staring at her. She jumped as the hat was lowered over her eyes, thinking, Please be Ravenclaw, Please be Ravenclaw!

"Ravenclaw? No. That's not for you. You will learn just fine in HUFFLEPUFF!"

Clyde entered the great hall, quickly noticing the not-so-beautiful students and the looking-like-a-nerd students. He laughed as he notices the girls looking at him as though they were drooling. He would never want to go out with them because 'they seemed desperate. and desperate people are disgusting' At the far end of the tables, he saw guys (maybe first year like him) who were looking at him with inferior eyes. Again, he laughed at them. "What's with all these insecure people? Don't tell me they would be my classmates. That would be a nightmare." he exclaims, talking specifically to no one. He ignored the students who heard him.

When the calling of the names started, he walked in front, pushing the other students who were blocking his way. Clyde would definitely watch the sorting. He would see all the first year students; those he would befriend, those he would make fun of.

"Clyde Sumeragi!"

He chuckled as the other students looked at him. He started to walk, slowly so that people would engrave his face in their minds. 'This would be the face of the person change your perspective in life. This is the person who will never give up his way of thinking. This person will change you forever.' Before sitting down on the chair, he stared first at the Sorting Hat. He chuckled again and finally sat down, ready for his judgment.

"Another one for SLYTHERIN!"

Lily laughed as people nervously edged their way up to the stool. What were they scared of? She rolled her eyes as the wimps scampered back to their seats. Slytherin... It suited her best. She only hoped the sorting hat would realise that.
It seemed like a lifetime before her name was called.

'Rose, Lily.'

Hurrah! Lily stood up and bowed to her table. Striding up to the stool, Lily let her hair hang loose over her back. The sorting hat was placed on her head. Get it over with, she said in her mind.

"Realize that you belong in Slytherin? How about decide where you most belong? Arrogant and foolish. Let's see if Rowena can help you out any. RAVENCLAW!"

Alexa stood with the other first years in a group in front of the ancient leather hat. It quickly went through the students, rhyming off the names of houses once it had delved into the children's inner thoughts. Each boy and girl before her seemed pleased and ecstatic with the house given to them by the strange talking headpiece. Alexa's name was called and she slowly walked to the stool and climbed up on it. She looked out at the sea faces looking up at her and could feel her stomach begin to tumble and flutter. She clenched her hands together so as to stop them from shaking and so no one would see her nerves. The hat was slowly placed on her head and could feel the weight of it as it began looking through her mind to decide what was the best house for her to be in.

"HUFFLEPUFF!"

Ella was so glad to finally be getting sorted. She heard her name called, "Palmer, Ella!" She took a breath, not out of nervousness, just excitement. She walked up to the stool and placed the Sorting Hat on her head. Please, Ella thought. Please be Gryffindor, please be Gryffindor, please be Gryffindor.

"Gryffindor? No. I'm sorry. Not Gryffindor. HUFFLEPUFF!"

Gabrielle breathed in and out and as she waited for her name to be called..A few minutes more,"Gabrielle Carmichael!",she looked up and walked up the platform..Glancing nervously at her friend,Jeremy, she sat on the stool, picking up the hat and placed on her head..As she waited anxiously, her thoughts were screaming,"Ravenclaw!!Oh,please,Ravenclaw.."Though she knew her parents want her in the house they were once in,Gabb wants to stand on her own..As she waited, she could feel her hands shaking..All she just hope that her wait would not be that long..

"Yes, I agree. You're not your parents. You're a RAVENCLAW!"

Jonas sighed, as the new headmaster began to talk. He'd rather be skate-boarding now. He yawned as the headmaster ended his speech. "Finally." he muttered under his breath lazily, as he rolled his eyes. He watched as one by one the students stood up to get sorted. Jonas watched in curiosity as his future classmates got sorted. Over the past two weeks here in New Zealand, he made made new friends and they had told him a lot of information about the four different houses. After hours of deep-thinking at night, Jonas knew what he house he wanted to go to. He knew he belonged there. He just knew it. Jonas smiled as he watched Maddie get sorted into Slytherin. He knew that was what she wanted. He couldn't imagine what she would do if she didn't get in Slytherin.

"McCarthy, Jonas."

Jonas looked up lazily and stood up. He walked towards the hat and placed the hat on his head. "Hey dude, put me in the house I should be." he thought in his head deeply, awaiting the hat's selection.

"I had no other plans. SLYTHERIN!"

Walking through the centre aisle of the Great Hall was scary, especially for someone as shy as Elizabeth. Mostly, she looked at her feet, concentrating on the pattern on her black socks that she could just see. She glanced quicky around her, taking in all the details of the vast room. As she approached the front of the hall, the long scraggle of first years evened out. It was time. Students were called forward one by one, and to Elizabeth, they all looked calm. She wondered if everyone would laugh at her when she was looking so embarrassed. It would surely stand out to everyone, considering she blushed so often. It was her turn, she heard the hat call out her name, "Elizabeth Harel". She dashed forward, the quicker this was over the better. She thought of her brothers, how intelligent they all were, and started reciting everything she knew both muggle and magical in her head. Hopefully it would be enough to prove to this hat she was just as clever as her elder brothers.

"You needn't prove anything to me. I can see you're intelligent. However, I also know you will come to belong in GRYFFINDOR!"

Seth watched as all the new students around him get sorted. It was pretty interesting to see their faces when the sorting hat and shouted the house they belonged too. Seth sighed, why did his surname had to start with 'P'? Now he had to wait like forever, just to get sorted, and Seth wasn't actually really that patient of a boy. He smiled as he saw some of his good friends get sorted and managed to give them a thumbs up as they walk past him to their respective houses' tables.

"Prince, Seth!"

Seth looked up with glee and he enthusiastically walked up. He placed the hot on his head and stood very still. He wanted the hat to put him in a house he would really belong to.

"You'll come to learn some patience yet... young GRYFFINDOR!"

Right after the new headmaster had given his speech, the sorting had began. Terry watched as one by one students get sorted in front of the whole school. It was pretty embarassing though, being called out and getting sorted. Terry closed his eyes for a moment. His surname started with the alphabet A, so he would be one of those who would be sorted first.

"Ang, Terry"

Terry turned pink, as he walked over to the podium and waited for the hat's answer.

"SLYTHERIN!"

There are many unsorted students lined up for sorting but Raffaelo really didn't seem to really care he hear the Headmaster called his name"Menzure,Raffaelo". Without hesitation he stood up from his chair and went front sat and hoped for the best, thinking then if he became a Slytherin his father will be very proud of him and if Gryffindor is his destiny then his mother will me glad to hear the great news. But Raffaelo never assumed anything even a single thing but he is ready to be filled with his evil thoughts and do it after him being sorted.

"You are quite a mix of your parents, aren't you? Well - Helga would like one like you. She liked to see people change and grow. Yes. You're a HUFFLEPUFF!"
