The Sorting Ceremony 2029

Octavio was both excited and nervous when he entered Hogwarts. 'The candles are floating!' was his first thought when he entered the Great Hall, but when he saw the many students at four very long tables, he thought about how he would be up on a stool, getting sorted, in front of all these students. The headmaster gave a speech, and the sorting began. A sorting hat on a stool was brought near where the teachers were sitting, and a professor called out names, their last name first, then their first name. A few students were put in each house. Soon enough, a call of "Comatur, Octavio", could be heard around the giant hall. He nervously stepped up to the stool, sat down, and felt the sorting hat touch his head. 'I honestly don't care what house I get, as long as I can learn lots of magic! Gryffindor would be nice, though...', Octavio thought. He had no idea that the old hat could read his thoughts.

"Every house is nice enough, but the nicest for you is RAVENCLAW!"

Sean wasn't too eager for the magical school. He would rather be home with his family, and continue to read. He entered the Great Hall, and most of the lots of students were very excited. Some of them were young, and some were older. There were four different tables. When sorting came around, Sean had to wait for many students to be sorted before he heard his own name. His last name started with a W, and that was at the end of the alphabet, so it would take a while. When he heard his name, he walked up to the stool, and an old, talking hat was placed on his head. The sorting hat. Sean wanted to be in Ravenclaw, because he heard from his mother that that house was the best of them all. His mother and grandfather had both been a Ravenclaw, so why not continue the trend? He waited for the hat to say something.

"A family tradition to be continued. RAVENCLAW!"

*In the Great Hall*
Milenia Goldstein: *Looks around and sees other 1st years whispering to each other. Turns to the blond girl next to her* "How long will we have to stand here before we get sorted? We've already been here for..."
McGonagall: *Walks up to a stool with a ratty old hat on it.* "Welcome to Hogwarts 1st years. Now, I will call you up by your last name in alphabetical order. When you are called, you are to come up and sit on this stool, I will then place the sorting hat on your head. Once your house is called, you will sit at that table and wait for the rest of you fellow students to be sorted. Now, the first up will be..."
*After several students with last name starting from Ab to Go*
Professor McGonagall: "Goldstein, Milenia"
Milenia Goldstein: *walks toward McGonagall and the sorting hat.* "Please get into Slytherin. Please get sorted into Slytherin!" *she reaches the stool that McGonagall is holding the hat over and slowly sits down on it. She looks at her peers still standing waiting to be sorted.*

"SLYTHERIN!"

"I wonder how many of them were muggle born" Jordan thought looking out over the room in front of her, surprising herself with how normal new words in her vocabulary had become since her letter had arrived. The slim but mousy girl looked out over the students, laughing and cheering as student after student was sorted into one of the four houses. She gently entertained the idea that one day she would be used to it as well, but at this moment, that day seemed very far off. She was so lost in thought that her name had to be read twice, but when she heard it she stepped forward slowly. She heard a few snickers over her "boyish" name and appearance, but by now she was used to those. When she reached the stool, she placed the hat on her head and just waited feeling slightly silly. She knew very little about any of the houses, but just hoped she ended up somewhere she felt comfortable.

"Helga would absolutely adore you. HUFFLEPUFF!"

Damein aunt drops him off at the school he is not very happy but still gives a fake smile to the aunt he loves. He walks suspciously into the school through the big doors. He is not very sure what to expect. He sees a groups of people he guesses are new like them but he can't trust them. Then someone walks up to him and says hi he ignores them and joins the group that is walking into the great Hall to get started

"Hmmm. Bit of a problem with authority, I see. Well, I've no doubt about you. GRYFFINDOR!"

At last, the day Ava had been waiting for had arrived, and she took her place at a table of unsorted students to wait for her name to be called. This was a life changing event, and would greatly influence the way she acted at Hogwarts. She was certainly a very nice person, though known to be rather cheeky at times too. Watching the other students make their way up to the stool, she became a little nervous about what the sorting hat would say when it was placed on her head. Would she be too difficult to sort? Ava hoped not. She wasn't a very confusing person, but she was suddenly doubting her ability to be sorted. When her name was called, she jumped a little and then stood up. As she scanned the hall, she noticed Nephrolepis, and a grin broke out on her face. She'd been sure the girl had been magical. She was most certainly a part-goblin. Making her way slowly up to the front, she realized that all eyes were on her. Hurrying up, she turned around and edged herself onto the stool. Swallowing, the hat was placed on her head. So many thoughts were running through her mind that it would almost have been impossible for the sorting hat to read them. All she could think about was how excited, scared, and happy she was feeling. It was now or never.

"Nobody is too difficult to sort, not for me. For instance, you're a HUFFLEPUFF!"

As Hermoine walked into the hall she couldn't believe this was happening. Just 2 month's eariler she got the letter that she had been accepted to hogwarts. As she ended her daydreaming she heard names being called. She thought that they should be getting closer. When the professer said " Hermoine Mason" she walked up the stairs and to her suprise as the professer put on the hat and it started tallking it announced " You are in .........

Estella Cadogan walked into the Great Hall. Everything was so ... grand. The large hall was glittering with candles that hovered above the diners' heads. Back and forth flew the ghosts of each house. Perhaps Estella felt a twinge of nervousness, but hardly. In a few moment, she would be up on the stool where the well-known sorting hat would decide her next seven years at Hogwarts.

Quietly, she drummed her fingers against the table, rap-tap-tapping.

When her name was called, she leaped to her feet, eager. She tried to keep composure as she moved up the stairs to the hat, but she was far too excitable. In all honesty, Estella had not a clue what house she might be sorted in. She felt like she would fit in any House, but there had to be one that stuck out more. Estella was curious about what this may be. Pulling herself up onto the stool, she felt the sorting hat being placed upon her head. She did not talk to it - she did not want to. She just wanted to listen. It babbled away to itself for a few minutes. Despite her confidence on the outside, Estella was now only a little worried. Would she be sorted into the right house? She didn't want to be a sore thumb in one place. She waited impatiently and sighed heavily, subtly urging the sorting hat to get a move on, please. Suddenly, she remembered something. Maybe she would talk to the hat after all. However, she felt silly talking to a hat of all things. Oh, well.

Whispering, so just the hat would hear, she said, "Though I'm all over the place, I just don't think I'm cut out for those Hufflepuffs ... too cheerful and ... badger-y."

"No, you're no Hufflepuff. You're a SLYTHERIN!"

Tim talks with his new found friends and all of them are anxious and when the big door open up he felt happy and excited. As they walk towards the stool they see tons of student whispering to each other and when names are being called he was so excited for his name was last after several minutes,"Waggoner,Tim" and he ran to the stool and accidentally knock it down, all the students laugh even the professors but he still felt confident and as the sorting hat was talking in his mind he felt bored for the hat was thinking for what felt like 10 minutes already and he was shocked when it screamed......

"RAVENCLAW!"

Jade walked into the Great Hall without the slightest bit of emotion on her face, though inside she was dreading having to sit on anyone of these tables and actually talk to people. She preferred the company of her own mind and would take that over people any day. Unfortunately her Mother had told her to try at least make friends, and although she was still mad at her for not telling her about the Wizarding World, she tried to respect her mom's wishes. A long list of names was called before she heard her own name. I hate being last on the list she thought with distaste. She made her way to the stool and the hat that would determine who she would befriend. Despite all her pessimism, she felt hope that maybe things would finally be different here. Jade sat down on the stool and lost herself in her head, thinking about the next seven years.

"Hmmm. You'll grow to be a great GRYFFINDOR!"

The moment had finally arrived that Sylvester had been waiting for ever since he received his letter. This was the day he would be sorted into one of the four houses at Hogwarts. Thoughts raced through his head as he entered the grand hall. Hundreds of eyes stared down at him and the other youngsters around him. He looked around at all of them and up at the staff. Most of them looked pretty friendly. He hoped that would be able to make many new friends here and get along with the professors.

Vester's thoughts returned to the moment at hand. One of the professors had been reading off kid's names, and one by one they sat on the stool up front, put on the Sorting Hat, and walked to their assigned house's table. Sylvester's last name was in the middle of the alphabet, so it wasn't too long until he heard his name.

"Lombardi, Sylvester" the professor called out.

"Uh-oh..." he thought as he heard his name called and looked over at the Gryffindor table, "I hope I am able to make mum proud..." Sylvester walked out of the crowd of first years and towards the professor. He looked quickly at all the students once again and then plopped himself onto the stool. He felt the Sorting Hat placed onto his head, and he waited.

"One thing I've learned about mums is that they're invariably proud. You'd be a grand Slytherin. But I see your heart is set elsewhere. GRYFFINDOR!"

Myra was freaking out. She wasn't the kind of person who liked being in the spotlight, but that was just how she felt as she entered the Great Hall. Of course, nobody was actually looking at her, but the group of first years in general, but that was just how she felt. She chewed on her bottom lip as she stood among the cluster of eager eleven-year-olds, waiting for her name to be called. She was reminded of the feeling she got in assembly, when she knew that she was about to receive an award. Myra hated that moment when you had to walk up in front of everybody in the whole school, and she was almost in tears just thinking about it.

Myra's eyes quickly scanned the hall, her mind creating various scenarios of things in the room that could kill her. It was her survival tactic, something she had invented to deal with being with large groups of people. It may have been a very odd and slightly morbid tactic, but it usually worked for Myra. Thinking of the worst thing that could happen to her helped keep her mind off the fact that she was currently being pushed around by excited children and in a place that was frighteningly unfamiliar to her. After coming up with the idea that vicious sentient pumpkins could quite possibly maul her to death, "Violet, Myra." was called.

Head down, she shuffled over to the sorting hat and sat down on the little stool. When the hat was placed on her head, her eyes flickered across the sea of students, who were now actually looking right at her. Feeling her face turning red, she hoped that this would be over soon. Any house, really I'm not worried about it. she thought. She just wanted to be invisible again.

"Just any house would never work. You need the right house for you. That house is definitely SLYTHERIN!"

Jamie followed the large group of kids her age into the Great Hall. She wasn't sure why they had to go through with this, it was completely embarrassing to have to go up and have a talking hat on your head. Especially since no one would know how many heads it has been on, it could just be a hair diease center. She didn't know, and considering the excited faces on everyone around her she didn't feel the need to go and say such a thing to anyone else and create domino falling effect of fear. Hearing her name being called the young girl set her fears to the side and walked up proudly to the stand and sat down in the chair and waited for the hat to be placed on top of her head. Once it was there she began to wonder what it would think of her, and if she'd get into Ravenclaw or not.

"It'll have to be 'or not,' I fear. You're a HUFFLEPUFF!"

Maddie had a huge grin on her face as she stared up at the floating candles that hovered in the air. They were beautiful, but she wanted to find out the charm that made them float. It was probably one of the ones she had read in her grandmother's books, thinking of Wingardium Leviosa, but it would have to be a semi-powerful one to maintain all the candles at all times. She stopped staring at the candles and looked at all four of the tables, eager to sit at one and talk to some new people. Sure she would miss her muggle friends, but she was excited to be entirely herself around these people. Maddie looked at the Slytherin table and saw a few kids pushing each other and was about to tell a teacher when she suddenly heard "Thompson, Maddie." Did so much time really pass? , she thought in wonder. She made her way up to the wooden stool that sat at the front of all four tables. Sitting down on the stool, hoping the hat could hear her, she said quietly, "Please just don't put me in Slytherin, I don't think that they would like me there." She closed her eyes and prayed to be put in the right house.

"If you were a Slytherin, they would like you there just fine. As it stands, though, they'll like you most in RAVENCLAW!"

Barbie entered the great hall. She walked up to the corner of the room to join the rest of the students. Then the sorting ceremony finally began. The professor called her name then she sat down the stool and said "Put me in Slytherin please" Barbie said.

"Sorry, I can't do Slytherin for you right now. You seem much more of a HUFFLEPUFF!"

The most awaited day has finally come. Andrea is going to be sorted. She was very happy to finally be in Hogwarts. She was very sure that her mother is very proud of her. Since she is the first born, she has to do most of the sacrificing and the hardworking since they are very poor. As Andrea entered the Great Hall to join the rest of the Unsorted Students, she was filled with amazement to see all the decorations in the room. She had never been to a place as beautiful as this before. She looked around the room. She saw all the sorted students looking at them, each containing different meanings of gazes. Andrea, however, just rolled her bright blue eyes and continued to walk through the corner of the room where they were going to be sorted. She looked around the room again. She saw the four long tables on each side of them, she saw the flags hanging up the ceiling with the different house logos on them, she saw all the mouthwatering food on each tables. Never before has Andrea seen such mouthwatering food. Time passed and the sorting finally began. The professor said some words which Andrea hasn't really heard since she was very busy looking around the room. But the Sorting Hat caught her attention. She was very impressed. She had never seen such amazing hat before, especially a talking one, with face and a mouth. The hats in the Muggle World are extremely boring. People only wear them during special occasions or whenever it is too sunny or when it is raining. Later on, the calling of names began and each student was being sorted into their respective houses. And when the professor finally called her name "Kelize, Andrea", Andrea proudly walked up to the front and sat down on the stool in front of her. She was very proud to finally be sorted and also to wear the hat. She had never seen a talking hat and never before she had wore any of them (that is if there are many sorting hats). "Mr. Hat, please put me in the best house. Please put me in the house where I can stand out the most. I really want my mother to be proud of me" Andrea politely muttered. And then she closed her little eyes and waited for the Sorting Hats response, which she knows that the hat's decision will change her life forever.

"GRYFFINDOR!"

Ever since he had been a young child, Gideon had listened in disbelief to the stories of what his father and Uncle had done when they were away at school. Even though they had not attended Hogwarts, their stories were always so magical. Sure, he had grown up seeing his parents and family friends using magic, but the school stories the men told always seemed so much more exciting. Last night Gideon had been allowed to stay up later, listening to the tales of his father and Uncle with his mother stopping to add her input at times. When his father started talking about sneaking out of his dorm at night in his seventh year to see his mother, she quickly declared it bedtime for Gideon. All night long he had tossed and turned in excitement, dreams about school entering his mind the few moments he had managed to fall asleep.

And now he was here, standing in the Great Hall along with the other first year students! The whole journey up until this point was a blur. The train had been awesome, his first sight of Hogwarts had been awesome, the people he had met had been awesome. It was even more magical than he had thought it would be. The talk on the train about being sorted into houses was new to him, and his lack of opinion of what house he wanted to be in had convinced the other boys in his compartment that he was muggleborn. He thought he knew the basics of the houses now, but he sure hoped he didn't have to make his own decision

What he hadn't been expecting was for a hat to be the one making the decision. He thought he had perhaps heard the headmaster wrong, but there was indeed a hat. A talking one, at that. It was like no other magic he had seen before. As he waited, he found himself biting the inside of his cheek in anticipation, a habit he had picked up long ago whenever he was excited or unsure. In this case, he was a mixture of both

"Henderson, Gideon."

Knowing that all eyes were on him, he made sure to walk calmly up to the stool to make sure he didn't fall flat on his face. That was not the kind of first impression he wanted to make. As the hat was lowered onto his hat, he took a deep breath. And then he waited, blissfully unaware that the hat had the ability to read his every thought.

"Gryffindor or Ravenclaw. Ravenclaw, or Gryffindor. What do you think? No preference, hmmm? Not too terribly helpful, are you? No, well, I suppose sorting is my job. I wouldn't entrust the ordeal to you, either. Hmmm. You'll be a GRYFFINDOR!"

Andy was happy to be going to Hogwarts; it was a chance to get away from her happy-go-lucky, always smiling family. And gosh, it was annoying. Andy knew that she wouldn't exactly be able to focus all her time on her dancing, but it would be good to figure out how to survive in the wizarding world if she wanted to get out of her house as soon as possible.
As the castle loomed ahead, Andy looked in awe at how big it all was. She wondered if she'd ever be able to find her way around the castle; hopefully by the end of seven years she would have the jist of it. Stepping carefully off the boat, Andy chatted excitedly to the person next to her about what she thought it would look like inside, and what house she thought she would be put in.
A gasp left Andy's mouth as she walked into the Hall, amazed at what it looked like - so much more than she could have imagined. She played nervously with her hair as she moved forwards until the group were standing right at the front of the hall. Luckily, she was one of the first people being called forward, having Austin as her last name. Still clutching her hair nervously, Andy made her way up to the stool, and put the hat on her head, awaiting it's reply.

"Gryffindor."

Cynthia sprinted into the Great Hall, having gotten completely lost in talking to the new people she had met. As soon as she looked around and saw that she hadn't missed anything besides the hats lame song, she walked through the crowd waiting for her name to be called. She didn't have to wait long at all, her last name starting with a B, but she was still anxious to get moving and start climbing her way to the top of whatever house she was placed in. Socially of course. She couldn't care less if she passed her courses or not, but would probably have to at least pass all of her classes to avoid punishment at home. Finally she heard the words "Brummett, Cynthia" and walked up to the stool with an air of annoyance around her. Why had it taken it so long? Wasn't the Sorting Hat famous for being able to get a student sorted in under five minutes? She sat down on the stool and crossed her arms around her chest, looking very haughty. Let's just get his over with and quickly.

"As you wish. SLYTHERIN."

Sofia stood by her cousin Isabella the whole time they were on there way to be sorted. She just didn't want to be alone in this big school where she only knew one person. That was the most nerve racking thing to Sofia, she would have to make new friends here. Italy had been so different, even more so since her parent's had died in a car accident. Everyone had been really nice and gave her special treatment which was okay at first but after the first week became annoying. The next thing Sofia new Bella's name was called and her cousin left her to go be sorted. She waited to see what her best friend would get and was happy for her when she got the house she wanted Ravenclaw. Sofia knew this went alphabetically and she knew she was next, closing her eye's for a second she heard her name.

"Fedele, Sofia!"

Opening her eyes and taking quick sure steps she sat on the stool and felt the hat fall on her head. Thinking loudly to herself she wished very hard, 'I just want to be with Isabella. I don't know what I'll do if she's not here to help me through this. Please just let it be Ravenclaw.' Sofia didn't know much about the house's being muggleborn, but from what she new Ravenclaw was for smart people, and she was. But all she really cared about was if she was going to be with her cousin or not. So she waited for the hat to decide with lots of hope in her heart.

"You have a few more goals than just to be with Isabella. Fortunately, they can both be met in the same place. RAVENCLAW!"

Erin went up the Great Hall with the other first years. A Professor was ushering them as they walked towards the front with all the teachers sitting in their own stools. She was so nervous, her feet felt like walking on their own accord. She hoped her house would be in Ravenclaw. She shouldn't feel nervous. She was a Pureblood. And probably, Purebloods should be sorted in Slytherin. There was a certain eagerness of her to be placed in that house for her family's long time reputation but she really wanted to be in Ravenclaw.

"No, no! I should be placed in Slytherin or I'll be dead," said Erin as her name was called to sit on the stool. The Professor put the Sorting Hat on her head and before she could even blink or gulp, it shouted in a very firm and clear voice...

"RAVENCLAW!"

OOCOut of Character: Notes
You must apply for your character to be a pureblood and can do so through this form.
Also, your username should be the first and last name of your character, so it should be Jade Lindt - and you can request a username change through this form.

Clint stood awaiting with the lot of them, the great hall was massive but standing with all of them, there was hardly enough room for the boy to really observe the entire sorting ceremony. So many names were call, and not a glimpse of their face came across his view. It was hard to see who went where, once their house was sorted he didn't bother to see where they sat down. He was glue to the professor, names were being called out from left to right. Clint had a bit of a wait, he curse his mother for having such a weird surname. If only she had given my father's name, Lynch was not to far from it, but still a wait. He suppose he hadn't much hurried, except to finally sit down somewhere nice and bright would be a great change for him. He was use to the stone sidewalks and his outside porch, how will he adjust to all the change?!

Eventually his name was called out, there would be restrictions he reminded himself. "I don't care, what could be bad with restrictions?" his mind went silence, the rough looking boy met the eyes of the professor for the first time. In the back of his mind he started to feel them judge Clinton, really bad habit of his lead to his low self esteem issues. I shouldn't care what they say, as long as I'm away from her for good... the boy sat down , than everything is good, yeah? It is what is, his mind responded back. And that's how it will always be for him, one last look he felt the big rugged hat cover his entire head.

"SLYTHERIN!"

Poly rode on the train to Hogwarts alone because her big sister had oh-so stubbornly refused to comfort her during her time of stress when she imagined the worst case scenarios of being placed in certain houses and the possibility of becoming another version of Lord Voldemort should she be placed into Slytherin or have her life as wild as Harry Potter's if she was a Gryffindor, and if she was placed in Ravenclaw she imagined being put into the most stressful position she could imagine - minister of magic. This was the last thing she wanted so she imagined that Hufflepuff would be a nice place where the biggest foibles the residents seemed to have was being guilliable which Poly didn't believe she was. In fact she was a little skeptical of everyone but only in secret and this was due to the amount of pranks her Gryffindor sister, Megara, had played on her when she was younger and continued to do so. She even second guessed her letter despite knowing that it was a real school thanks to Megara. For some reason she just thought she was a muggle or a squib or something because it would be the sort of thing her sister would do to fake a letter just to get her hopes up so she had stolen some of her father's Veriteserum and snuck it into Megara's drink and asked her for the truth. Of course Poly had gotten into trouble after that because it might have been labelled improperly and could have hurt Megara.

Hippolyta didn't expect that she would have the opportunity to do that again so her one moment of sheer foolishness was behind her and now she was filing into the Great Hall with the rest of the first years to be sorted. She did feel lucky that her surname didn't begin with 'Z', partly because her patience would wear extremely thin and partly because any last name starting with 'Z' was probably a touch strange. It wasn't long after the Sorting Hat began to sing that sorting had commenced. She noticed a few faces of her peers who seemed to be shocked and somewhat disturbed that their fate was in the hands of a talking hat but with all the stories from her father and Megara she had total faith that when it was her turn she would be sorted into the house that best suited her which she hoped would be Hufflepuff. But in all honesty she just didn't want to be in Slytherin or Gryffindor. Gryffindor because Megara would have the chance to bug her all day - everyday and Slytherin because she thought they were pure evil but this naivity would soon end for the black haired girl.

"Bennett, Hippolyta."

Poly swollowed shyness and swaggered through the crowd and up the steps before sitting as comfortably as one could with the whole of the school starring at you. The hat was placed on her head and she wondered what the hat was basing her house on, memories or thoughts. Either way the Sorting Hat saw what you were capable of and could infer as to what house you would be in so she purposely thought of nice things, kind deeds and various other acts that could place her into Hufflepuff but she felt decietful so she just thought, hoping it would reach the Hat, "Can I please be put into Hufflepuff?"

"As you wish. HUFFLEPUFF!"

"Hannah Jaxburthorn" She looked around feeling nervous but really excited. As she walked up the steps to the sorting hat she looked behind her to see her new friend Cole waved at her from the line "good luck" he mouthed smiling through his lips. She finally reached the top and placed the hat on her head....what house will she be placed in?
