A new home meant new specimens to study and collect, and a decently overcast day meant an ideal time to begin scouring the outdoors. The courtyard, though busy, had lots of interesting nooks and crannies insects could be hiding in, and so Edmund and Theodore had taken their jars and tweezers and were ready to see what sort of bounty this castle had to offer.

Hunched over a wiggly piece of architecture, Edmund was struggling to coax an interesting looking beetle out of its hiding place and into his jar, trying to no avail to frighten it in with his tweezers. The jars in his bag were already starting to fill up with a few interesting bugs, but this beetle really caught his eye. Some sort of large wood beetle, flown over from the forest perhaps? Edmund was already looking forward to researching it. If he could just... get the darn thing into his jar. "Theodore?" He called his brother over, hoping he would be of some assistance. "It just doesn't want to cooperate."

After getting used to his new environment, Theodore had been glad to go exploring with his twin. Especially outside, as Hogwarts seemed to have different plants and animals surrounding its building as their house did. Insects could vary greatly from place to place, and he couldn't help but wonder if being so near a magical school would affect them at all. It would be a fascinating experiment to compare them to the ones they had at home.

He was crouched on the ground of the courtyard, tryign to pry his tweezers between two tiles to see if there was anything there, when his brother spoke up. He looked up at Edmund and saw he needed help. With a sigh, he left his own equipment on the ground to walk over to him. "Do we need it alive?" He asked, though he knew they were more fun to examine if they were. At least at first. When he saw the beetle his brother was trying to get into the jar, his eyebrows rose slightly. It did look interesting. He peered into the beetle's hiding place. "Maybe it will come out if we shine light in it." He said hopefully, already grabbing his wand to try the lumos spell again. "Or we can find a small leaf and poke it in there to see if it will make it leave? I wish we knew the summoning charm, that would be incredibly helpful." He took out his wand. "Lumos." He said, before he held the tip of his wand near the hiding place. In his experience, most insects preferred dark corners to hide in. Much like he and Edmund, honestly. Maybe a bit of light would make the creature look for another spot. Though the only spot he would get was in their jars, and maybe one day on their wall.
