Rhiannon headed to the great hall. she was looking forward to the ball. she had always had good memories of the ball, her first one when she had met Ty, the one she had gone to with Theseas, and her favourite the one she had been to with Perseas. they were always good and this years was going to be a blast. She had found a very nice dress and she had spent a while getting her hair and makeup looking right. usually she was not this into her appearance but it was a special occasion and she did want to make it a good evening.
She entered the hall and looked around seeing if she could see anyone she knew but it seemed that she was one of the first to arrive. she headed towards the table. she had missed lunch and was hungry. she got a plate of food and sat down as people started to arrive keeping an eye out for her friends until the headmistress took to the stage to officially open the ball.

Casey hadn't given much thought about going to the Yule Ball at all during the first semester but in a last minute decision he decided to go. Given that he hadn't seen or spoken to Alison at all since before he left Hogwarts at the end of the previous year the idea of going to a dance did not appeal to him. Eventually he caved and decided to go, he managed to get himself a new suit just in time. His package arrived at the Slytherin table the day before the ball, thankfully everything fit perfectly. Casey straightened his tie and ran his hands over his shirt making sure it was pristine before he came up out of the dungeons. It was the first time he didn't have to wait at the foot of the stairs for Alison to come down from the Gryffindor common room, the thought made him sad as he headed straight for the Great hall and inside to the ball.

It was always a sight to behold no matter how many times Casey had seen it. It was a little strange, walking alone meant that he was able to take in more of his surroundings. With no one on his arm to hold his gaze and attention Casey was able to appreciate the beauty of the Yule ball much more, though he hadn't decided if it was a good or bad thing. Casey grabbed himself a drink from the refreshments table and took in his surroundings. As he was scanning the room he noticed something, the head girl sitting alone which to his knowledge was uncommon. Casey had never taken the girl to be a loner, that being said he knew very little about her other than her title given that she was the year above. It was a very rash and a very spur of the moment decision but Casey approached her. "Hey there, is this seat taken?" He asked waving his hand over the empty seat next to her. It was a silly question to ask but it was a line he had seen in muggle movies so he thought he'd give it a try.

Rhiannon was part way through a farther large roast potato when a boy headed over to her. She smiled as she looked up. She recognised him as being a slytherin, probably a sixth year as he looked older but she didn't recognise him from classes. She smiled as he asked if the seat was taken and put her hand in front of her mouth trying to chew the mouthful quickly, unfortunately roast potatoes are the kind of food that can't be chewed too quickly. She managed to get it down in a mouthful that was slightly larger than normal. "no, go for it she said half expecting him to take it to join the group of boys a couple of tables across. She was a little surprised when he seemed to be joining her. how is your evening going she asked trying to start a conversation.

Casey was quite surprised when the Head girl allowed him to take up the empty seat. He had half expected her to tell him she was waiting for someone which wouldn't have been hard to believe. Casey still couldn't believe that she was here alone. Casey took the seat and placed his drink on the table. Around him the dance floor seemed to fill as more and more couples were having their first of many dances of the night, that did make the Slytherin sad. He shouldn't be there alone, but he was. Casey turned his attention to the girl he had sat next to, she had made an attempt to start a conversation with him so he wasn't going to pass on the chance to talk and distract himself. "I've only just arrived so not had much of an evening so far, how about you, having any fun yet?" He asked wanting to keep as much back as he could, though he knew that if he was prodded he would spill his guts.

Rhiannon smiled when the boy took a seat. it seemed she wouldn't be alone all night which was good. she had really this year lost contact with a lo of her friends. not that she intended to. she just had so many things to do she had no time to socialise. maybe she would try and find perseas sometime before he left for the break to just have a bit of a catch up. when he answered her question she listened and nodded. "yeah, that sounds about right. I haven't been here long either, just long enough to get food, which i would recommend. the chipolatas are perfect" she said. maye chipolatas were a very british thing but they were still one of the best bits of a christmas lunch, who could say no to cocktail sausages wrapped in bacon. she ate one of them as the song changed to something a little more upbeat she watched the dance floor fill up with people.
