The Cure for Boredom

Boredom caused Jean to do some crazy things sometimes. As the late morning turned into the afternoon, Jean knew that he was going to go crazy if he didn't do something with his day. The common room was quiet, which was pretty uncharacteristic for Gryffindor House. He was used to it being raucous. With a groan, Jean launched himself off of the loveseat he'd taken over, a broom magazine sliding to the floor as he stood up. The teenager ran upstairs and changed into a pair of shorts, his pale, knobby knees peeking out from beneath them, and a Gryffindor t-shirt. Reaching for his broom, Jean left his dorm room. Flying was always fun.

Within minutes, Jean was on the pitch. He slowed down a bit to catch his breath and glanced around the field. It was open hours, so really anyone could be on the pitch. Jean rolled his eyes. Some people really didn't belong on a broom. They were dangers to society, but there was really nothing he could do about it. They had just better stay out of his way. Jean wasn't above flying so close to someone that he'd make them nervous enough to fall off of their broom. He found it hilarious when that happened. Kicking off the ground, Jean began a slow, lazy lap. Mostly, he wanted to see who was around. Maybe he'd find someone he liked or could tolerate. Merlin knew he had enough family in the school, though he wasn't fond of most of them. If not, he'd settle for helping to clear the skies of the bad flyers. Someone had to do it, and Jean was more than happy to take that job on.

In the aftermath of Gryffindor's last quidditch game, and in the eve of Gryffindor's next game, Archie had chosen to spend most of his spare time flying. Determined to practice hard and refusing to fail his team which he had unfortunately been doing a little too often recently. He had skipped lunch, spending the majority of his day flying around the pitch, minding his own business around the other students flying and focusing on himself. Really thinking about the way he flew and if he could do anything to improve his ability to swerve around and catch the quaffle during his next game. However his mind reached a blank as he flew, he did not know how he could improve his skills or if improving was even a possibility. Maybe he was stuck in a state of being sort-of skilled at playing quidditch that he would never be able to get out of.

Archie shook his head, realizing he had stopped mid air while in the midst of his thoughts and in turn realizing his teammate Jean was also flying around the pitch. He sped to catch up with Jean before slowing down next to him and flying at the same pace. "Jean!" Archie exclaimed, sounding more enthusiastic than he felt though he was glad to have someone to talk to while flying even if it might have only been for a few minutes. "How's it going?" Maybe they could practice flying together in preparation for Gryffindor's next quidditch game. Archie toyed with the idea in his head, not wanting to suggest it until he knew if Jean had other plans this afternoon.

Jean glanced to the side as he kept his pace on his broom. As his gaze landed on Archie, the Chaser smiled. The two had played quidditch together for a few years now, but it was this year that they seemed to be interacting more. Jean had joined the Wild Patch club after getting the invite from Archie, and he was actually enjoying himself there. "Hey Archie!" Jean replied, genuinely happy to see the other guy. " I was bored so I figured I'd get some flying in. You?" he asked as he dodged a particularly slow flyer. He glared at her as he passed.

"I didn't realize the pitch would be this crowded" he added as they flew side by side. The Gryffindor knew that Archie was a good flyer. During games, he didn't have to move around as much as Jean did, but during practice he had been able to see Archie fly. He definitely was better than the people on the pitch now.
