Continued from this topic...
After a moment's pause, Amable raised his wand high in the air, looking each champion in the eye individually as he did so. This was a huge moment in each of their lives, and it would surely be interesting to see how it turned out. He then smiled genuinely to Aubrey, whom he hoped to come out on top of the rest - to be a true testament to the greatness of their school, then golden sparks shot from the tip of his wand and the word "Begin!" glittered above the heads of the judging panel before fading in to nothingness.

Amable sat back down between his two fellow judges and watched the events unfold before him.

Morrigan Kolina Craven listened intently to the scores given of the last task and fumed inwardly. She had come second place which in her view was not good enough at all. No one remembered the person who came second perhaps last but never the runner up. It did not seem to matter that her score was just a head still on the points board, she had not done nearly as good as she had hoped for in the previous task and swore that if she ever came up across some blasted ice men or walls of fire again, she'd know exactly what to do. Destroy the entire lot with as many relevant curses as needs be.

Today she wore her school uniform but instead of her usual tight fitting skirt she wore a pair of brown slacks. As much as she liked taking care of her appearance she did not want this task jeopardised by an ill timed movement that her normal uniform would have ensured. At least now she had freedom of movement and as she took her place in the large circle, the tri-duel was no real stranger to her. DA at Durmstrang was ruthless in ensuring they were prepared for everything. Twirling her wand slightly she sized up her opponents deducing in seconds which one was the threat and which one wasn't. Who needed to be taken out first and who she would have at least a decent battle against.

Without any hesitation she cast the babbling curse directly at Aubrey the Beauxbatons champion, spinning herself around to be prepared for whatever spells were directed at herself.

Last place. Not where Mike wanted to be. Even though Mike still had a chance at winning, his confidence had depleted and he was sure Aubrey's had increased after she took the lead. Mike waited patiently, his palms sweaty, mainly with angst, although it didn't help that his grip was ever so tight on his wand. He was trying to remain focused on the task ahead. In brutal honesty, Mike hadn't known what to expect at the Third Task. A duel seemed less dramatic in comparison with Task 1 and 2, but it still seemed that with the competition still tight, even though Mike was in last place, everyone would surely try their damned hardest. In the end, no one wanted anything but first place. Mike's mind raced, spells buzzing through his mind when the Beauxbaton's Headmaster annouced the start of the task.

Golden sparks shot from the tip of his wand and the word "Begin!"

Mike focused on both of the other contenders in the opposite corners to him. His guard up, his wand at the ready. He was expecting the first strike to go towards him, but was pleasantly suprised to see Moko aim a spell at Aubrey. Mike took this opportunity to cast a spell at Aubrey. Mike knew that he would find it very hard to be on guard and cast two protego's in quick succession and so aimed a stinging hex at her. He waited to see if either of the spells hit Aubrey but his guard remained constant.

Morrigan felt the adrenaline pump its way through her, her wand a most exquiste 14 1/2" walnut Wand with essence of Vampire Blood was made for dueling. Made for defensive magic and especially capable of performing hexes, jinxes and curses. Her DA professor had always admired it and now would be her chance to show how effective it really was. Her head turned swiftly to her right as the Hogwarts champion sent a hex at Aubrey right after her own one. Hoping he was distracted enough Moko aimed her wand at him.She cast 'levicorpus' at him crouching down slightly as she did so.

Mike did not see whether his spell was successful, he was caught off guard and was too late implementing Protego. He was hoisted up by his legs by something, although he could not see what it was. He wriggled, frantically, hovering upside down invisibly by some invisible force. He couldn't get down. Wriggling his wand, still remained in his hand he didn't know the counter for it, and tried to wriggle about, in hope that it let him go. "Finite" Mike muttered, pointing his wand at his fee. He fell with a loud bang, but got back up seconds later, he couldn't afford to let his guard down again.

Aubrey rolled her shoulders a few times, as per habit when she was raring for a good fight. Somehow she felt that her winning the last task had been more of a fluke than a win, even though she'd worked as hard as possible. Still, the Durmstrang champion was still points ahead of her and it was her last chance to set things right and take home a win for her school. Aubrey kept her ears on the headmaster and her eyes on the other champions, x-raying them for signs of nerves. The Hogwarts champion was holding onto his wand like it was a sword instead of wood and the Durmstrang girl was spinning hers a few time. It was then that Aubrey decided on whom she needed to watch out for. But, as fate often liked to do, things didn't pan out the way she expected.

There wasn't much preparation one could do for a task like this, since the mettle they already possessed and the knowledge they'd gained was all they had to go by. It was strange, for despite the fact that Mike Goulding was currently in last place, Aubrey didn't have the nerve to underestimate him in this task. Moko was tough as nails, she knew, but the Hogwarts Champion was fighting for the win. Aubrey drew her black eyes from one to the other as the sparks for the beginning of the task was sent, and waited to see who would attack first. She knew she'd be a target.
What she didn't expect however, was both champions aiming for her at once.
Well, bugger.
There was no time to block both and Aubrey had only once choice; to duck. The Beauxbatons champion dropped to her stomach seconds before both spells collided in mid air where she'd been not moments before. The impact of both spells in mid air blew her hair back and she held onto her wand for dear life. Damn them. Good show, though. Aubrey grit her teeth and stayed on the ground. Moko was aiming for Mike now, and she took the opportunity to send a Tarantallegra directly at her feet from where she was positioned. Aubrey then leapt to her feet and splayed them, wand erect and poised for another attack. She now knew that she was ready for a double-whammy. Let's see what else could be thrown, next.

Moko enjoyed a duel as much as the next witch or wizard probably more so. The thrill of the fight spurred her on relentlessly, briefly she wondered if she would be allowed to use half the curses that they had been taught at school in DA class but knew many of those were considered prohibited spells by other magic schools. Worse luck, she fumed inwardly watching as Aubrey dodged the spells and then as Mike rose into the air by his ankles. She wanted to laugh but would kick herself later for allowing herself to become distracted as a spell caught her legs and soon they were moving frantically as if she were some stupid lephrechaun doing the old muggle riverdance. Humiliation tore through her but she would not give up so easily.

Dancing or not she could still aim a perfectly good spell at one of her opponents. Aiming directly at Aubrey she called out "Petrificus Totalus" as her feet continued to dance with precision to a music-less room.

Aubrey watched with great satisfaction as Moko got hit perfectly with her Taratallegra, but perhaps she'd been better off sending a more prohibitive spell since she was struck with a body bind in return. Her legs and arms snapped together and her hand closed onto a death grip around her wand as she fell to the floor, immobile. Aubrey swore inwardly as her head hit the floor. Collapsing so rigidly gave one a good bump on the noggin, which was something she'd never considered until now. Worse yet, Mike had freed himself from Moko's Levicorpus and was free to move - and to strike. Aubrey was well and truly stuck. A bubble of fury with the Durmstrang Champion and at herself blossomed in her stomach as her eyes darted between the others, watching the action. Whoever turned on her next would face a sitting duck as she was with the darned body bind on her. She could not even glare. There was only one thing to do.

Having been holding her wand at the time it was still in her possession and it was, theoretically, within her power to cast a non-verbal spell. Only if she could pull it off, that is. With her wand glued to her right side, there weren't many options in terms of targets, either. Mike was up (or, technically, down) and about now and she wanted her attention focused on Moko, so she closed her eyes, opened them and thought with conviction, 'Protego!'. To her relief, the spell blossomed out from the tip of her wand and expanded at her feet. Yet she could not pause, for she was still vulnerable. Aubrey sucked in as deep a breath as she could through her nose, focused with everything she possessed and thought 'Incarcerous!' forcefully in her mind, just as Moko jerked within her wandline. She could only pray that it worked.

Moko was in her own opinion and that obviously of her schools proficient in many things, she had taken enough dance classes to know how to dance though the spell cast on her seemed more intense than any skill she had and hoping that stamina would beat the longevity of the spell she knew she could not risk it.
Her head whipped about as she saw Aubrey hit the floor her spell had caught her and grinning broadly she continued to dance like a whirling dervish, beads of sweat glistening now on her brow. Her feet possessed by the spell had no intention of stopping any time soon.

Mike had hit the ground with a resounding thump which Moko hoped would hurt like hell and then cursing the girl she saw the magical ropes whip out from Aubrey's wand heading directly at her. There was no time now for anything else but to protect herself but her feet had other things in mind and she was pirouetting swiftly to her right in seconds, spinning out of the way of the magical binds. Feeling a surge of anger overcome her she cast the 'finite' charm on her legs and stood glaring at the girl lying prone on the ground before glaring in the other direction at the boy. This was no time to be nice, she had to start playing this to win. With one effectively down for now but so not out, Moko weighed up her options.

Moko felt much better once her feet were firmly on the ground again and all dancing seemed to have stopped. Aubrey, of course, was still struggling to undo her body bind. She remembered the incantation well enough since she often had to undo the entrapments of unfortunate students for them but had never dreamed of having to perform one on herself, non-verbally and in the middle of last task of the TriWizard Tournament. Still the sitting duck, Aubrey was wrestling inwardly as she witnessed Moko giving her and Mike a good glare before casting a stunning spell at the Hogwarts champion. Her frustration rose and almost broke her concentration, but finally Aubrey was free and standing, rubbing the back of her head with her spare hand. She returned Moko's look then with a slight smirk attached. Aubrey jerked her head towards Mike once, clearly indicating 'Well? Me or he, now?'. She kept an eye on Mike to see if the spell had worked, but now that she was back on her feet her passive stance would not stay for long.

Mike just stood there, eyeing up what was the best move to make. He waited, biding his time, his guard well and truly active. He watched as Moko was hit with a spell that had comical effects. He couldn't afford to laugh at the effects, he didn't want to be an easy, open target. Like a vulture watching its prey, waiting for the right moment, he waited but didn't see Moko's stunning spell coming for him. "Protego" he boomed, just in time to watch his shield charm absorb the stunning spell.

He looked at Aubrey, then at Moko and then at Aubrey. It was as though she was signalling to him, trying to tell him something. His wand still readied, he sent a Jelly Fingers curse. If it hit, it would make her hands turn to jelly, rendering them useless for a while, giving either Mike or Aubrey the advantage to cast any spells they wanted at a defenceless Moko. He waited, eagerly to see if the spell would hit.

Moko felt as if the world was against her in that moment, as if her parents spirits were the only ones that stood behind her now in her hour of reckoning. With ease she spun from her crouched position into a stand up offensive stance and after dodging the spell effortlessly shot off a protego totalus blocking her from Aubrey's direction and shooting another petrificus in Mike's direction.
Her heart was slamming wildly in her chest but it didn't matter, this was what she had been made the Durmstrang champion for. She was lethal when it came down to the crunch and if either champion thought they could beat her then she would strive to prove them wrong. Moko glared once more in the direction of both champions hoping that neither would be champion for much longer.

Moko felt in her element now, as if all she had ever trained for at Durmstrang was finally getting a chance to be realized. Maybe now everyone would see that the school was more than the rumours spread about it. More than the fact that they were taught the use of curses instead of merely a defense against them. The spell hit Mike Goulding but she did not wait another second, spinning from her crouched position into a standing one she hurled the confundo charm at Aubrey with every intention of confusing the girls wits. If she couldn't think straight then she certainly couldn't hit straight.

This time she did not block herself with a protection spell, either she was extremely brave or extremely cocky and only time would tell which of these she truly was.

The other two champions seemed to be taking care of each other quite nicely. Aubrey held her wand at the ready and fixed her concentration on both Champions, but none sent her any lethal-looking spells except for a Protego from Moko, which she ignored. To her delight, the Hogwarts Champion went down in a Body Bind. Like flipping over a card, her concentration changed again to Moko. Just as well, for one of those lethal-looking spells was coming right her way. Aubrey stepped back of instinct and bellowed "Protego!", moments before the spell she recognised as a Confunding charm connected. Instead, the spell ricocheted violently off of her shield charm and burst into scattered lights that Aubrey shielded her arms against. "Phew," she muttered.

She could feel the adrenaline pulsing in her system and she grinned, almost hopping on the spot with excitement. This was exactly what she had entered the Tournament for. There was nothing Aubrey wanted more than to prove herself to her family and friends, and to do so against such masterful opponents was giving her such a buzz. Her eyes flicked to the fallen Hogwarts champion before Aubrey made her decision and cried "Stupefy!" at him. Oh, she knew well just how potent Moko's body bind curses were. Did Mike have the mettle to be able to squirm his way of this one? Aubrey gripped her wand then with both hands and splayed her legs, ready to move from one side or the other as needed. Things were starting to get heated.

Moko remembered various other situations she had found herself in throughout this tournament, most especially the first task and the Veela she had encountered then. Her hand automatically reached up to the pendant she wore, both rune stones that she had to find for that task Jera and Algiz. She was to persevere, the end would justify the means because of all the hard work and dedication she had put into this. There was no point in whacking the Hogwarts student with any more spells just yet, he was pretty well tied up. So with speed and grace, Moko flourished her wand and flicking her wrist and non verbally cast 'Expelliarmus' at her opponent from Beauxbatons.

Aubrey tore her eyes away from Moko to check on Mike. That body bind would be a hard one to get up from. She knew from experience. Luckily Aubrey herself had fallen in a fortunate way so as to not smash her head about too much; perhaps had passed out? Since she couldn't imagine anyone being able to tell whether he was unconscious or not, she'd leave it to the Tournament officials to decide whether he was out or not. Sure as heck Aubrey wasn't going to give him a good poke to make sure. A body bind and a stupefy, if it hit - a bad combo, and even in her battle lust she worried whether he was quite alright. There was no time to worry further since an Expelliarmus burst into her chest. Damn her distraction! Then again, if she'd heard a shout then maybe she'd have had time to react; Moko seemed to have that trick up her sleeve, too. Even as Aubrey struck the ground she was grinning. This was great!

Aubrey landed stomach-down on the edge of the ring, watching her wand skitter on the stone just out of reach. Moko had one heck of a disarming spell. She'd had the wind quite knocked out of her. The dark-haired witch lunged and swiped up her wand, rolling over onto her back and pointing it in Moko's direction. There was no time to get up. "Duro!" cried Aubrey, watching as the spell blossomed out of her wand.

Mike watched as Moko dodged his spell. Damn he muttered to himself. He wasn't ready for Moko's return and was struck with the body-bind charm. He fell to the floor, his legs snapping together, his arms gluing to his side. He was completely immobile. He tried to move his arms but couldn't manage it. His thoughts went wild trying to find a solution to Mike's problem. There seemed only one way out of it, but for Mike who had never tried it before, it could take time, which Mike didn't have. He focused his mind. He had read about the subject before, but never tried it. He never needed to. It was immensely difficult to do, but Mike had to try. he couldn't give up. Blocking out all thoughts, like a Buddha trying to reach enlightenment, he tried to recall how to perform non-verbal magic. The moments passed, slowly, and Mike was ready.

Steadying his flow of thoughts, he thought of the spell he was going to use. Saying it over and over in his mind. Finite. Finite. Finite. Focusing, like an Eagle observing a rabbit, he thought Finite, and a second later, he felt his arms and legs becoming free. It had worked! Mike had just about got up when he saw a spell coming right at him. He dived out of the way dodging the spell, getting back up as quick as he could. "Defodio" Mike said, aiming it at the Aubrey, whilst she was down on the floor, casting a spell at Moko.

Moko watched the events unfold before her, every spell bar one she had cast had struck it's intended target. She felt elated, proud of herself but it was no time now to get cocky. The duel was not over yet. Mike managed to block the stunning spell that Aubrey had hit him with but it cost Moko for not paying more attention. The spell that Aubrey sent her way would have hit her squarely in the chest had she not flung herself back into a somersault. The spell caught her still though it only hit her shoe which promptly turned to stone and made her foot impossible to lift.

She thought faster than she ever had before, the finite she cast on her foot ridding it instantly of the incantation before jerking herself around swiftly to see that Mike was up again. With Aubrey on the ground still and Mike whacking a spell her way, Moko sent one directly at him as well.
"Stupefy" she yelled.

Mike was waiting to see if his spell made any connection to Aubrey, but did not let his guard down. Good job aswell, Moko cast a stunning spell, and it was heading for the Hogwarts Champion. "Protego" Mike said, smiling to see that it had worked, blocking the stunning spell. He weighed up his options, biding his time. If it spell had hit Aubrey, then it would make gauges wherever it impacted. He would hazard a guess that the spell would be very painful, which could hopefully put her out of the equation of winning this. All was not over, Mike still had a chance, just like everyone else. He needed to take the opportunity with both hands, knocking any competition out of the window. His wand still drawn, he waited to see if Aubrey had been hit.

"Blast!" said Aubrey loudly as Mike got up just in time to slither out of her Stunning Spell. It would have been one of the best darn moves she'd ever made if it had connected, but she supposed he wasn't the Hogwarts Champion for nothing. Still, it wasn't exactly what she needed at a time like that. Aubrey began a mad scramble to get to her feet, but something almost shocked her to a stand(sit)still. Mike was looking quite determined to do her in and she didn't blame him. She sucked in a breath just as a yellow-coloured Defodio struck the ground near her. Why, the spell had missed her stomach by inches! Instantly Aubrey was filled with a passionate anger that forced her to her feet. Yes, this was a competition and there was a chance for injury, but that spell was blatantly dangerous. "B*stard!" she cried without thinking. If she had bled she wished he would have slipped in her blood. What a nasty spell.

Moko, in the meantime, Aubrey had just clipped with her Duro and her foot look as hard as ... well, stone. Aubrey clenched her fist in triumph when she rid herself of the spell and shot a Stunning Spell at Mike. Fair enough, she was an opponent, but Aubrey wasn't exactly pleased with the Hogwarts Champion at the moment. Mike turned after deflecting Moko's spell. Aubrey took the opportunity to poke her tongue out at him before raising her wand as high as she could and crying out "Lumos Maxima!". Suddenly the ring in which the three champions stood was filled with a violent, blinding white light. Aubrey could see nothing through the pain, but still she ran forward towards where Mike was. She wanted this fight head-on.

Moko's spell was deflecting with apparent ease by Mike Goulding, disgusted she moved back a few paces keeping her focus on both of them all the while. She wasn't sure why Aubrey decided to cast a light spell and watched as she began to run towards their other opponent. Weighing up her options she grinned to herself. Injecting some humour into the battle was not exactly lethal but it would prevent the recipient from casting any other spell for now unless they could work through the laughter but that would take serious concentration by which time surely they would be blasted by another spell. With that in mind but not sure if it would work effectively on either of the champions, Moko flourished her wand and cast 'Rictusempra', the laughing charm on the Hogwarts Champion.

[will edit again if needs be but did not include being blinded by Aubrey's spell as it is only canonical to the movies and not the books and even in the movies it was only bright enough for Harry to read under his bed covers not blinding at all.]

The duel seemed to be evenly matched from the judging stand, each champion attacking and defending as if in a big loop, so nobody was eliminated at all. Their tactics were resourceful and it was a splendid match to watch, but the time dragged on and the evenly matched witches and wizard were unable to knock a single opponent out, let alone two. As evening drew nigh it became apparent that the task had to be concluded. Conferring with the judges a moment, Amable nodded then called to a French Auror and spoke in hushed tones of their native tongue. He sighed his understanding then stood, raising his hands, one with his wand, in to the air and drawing attention to himself. "La troisième tâche est terminée!" He started in French, groans coming from the students of his school and others that understood before the English followed, "The third task is concluded!" It was unfortunate that the task could not be finished, but the extra charms place around them to protect them, conceal the task location, and ensure that the events that occurred in New Zealand's tournament were not repeated here, were soon to wear off and it would take several more hours to reimpliment them properly, he had been told.

"The other judges and myself will decide on the most fair way to judge the task under these circumstances. Please return to Beauxbâtons immediately." Amable assured, and then instructed, the crowd, frowning his apologies to the champions before his arms feel and he took his seat once more, quiet mumblings between judges ensuing as they debated how it could be possible to judge the tournament's outcome now.
