THE MUSES

JUST MET || When to the sessions of sweet silent thought
AQUAINTANCES || I summon up remembrance of things past,
RESPECT || I sigh the lack of many a thing I sought,
ALLIES || And with old woes new wail my dear time's waste:
FRIENDS || Then can I drown an eye, unus'd to flow,
CHILDHOOD PALS || For precious friends hid in death's dateless night,
FAMILY FRIENDS || And weep afresh love's long-since cancell'd woe,
CLOSE FRIEND || And moan the expense of many a vanish'd sight.
BEST GIRL || Then can I grieve at grievances foregone,
BEST GUY || And heavily from woe to woe tell o'er
CONFIDANTES || The sad account of fore-bemoaned moan,
LIKE FAMILY || Which I new pay as if not paid before.
INSEPERABLE || But if the while I think on thee, dear friend,
SOUL-SIBLING || All losses are restor'd, and sorrows end.

HONORARY FAMILY || They that have power to hurt and will do none,
DISTANT BLOOD || That do not do the thing they most do show,
GOD-PARENT || Who, moving others, are themselves as stone,
GOD-CHILD || Unmoved, cold, and to temptation slow;
GRANDPARENT || They rightly do inherit heaven's graces
GRANDCHILD || And husband nature's riches from expense;
AUNT || They are the lords and owners of their faces,
UNCLE || Others but stewards of their excellence.
COUSIN || The summer's flower is to the summer sweet,
NIECE/NEPHEW || Though to itself it only live and die,
MOTHER || But if that flower with base infection meet,
FATHER || The basest weed outbraves his dignity:
BROTHER || For sweetest things turn sourest by their deeds;
SISTER || Lilies that fester smell far worse than weeds.

ATTRACTION || Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
CRUSH ON YOU || Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
CRUSH ON ME || Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,

UNREQUITED || Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
PAST-PUPPY LOVE || And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;
PAST-BAD TERMS || And every fair from fair sometime declines,
PAST-GOOD TERMS || By chance, or nature's changing course, untrimm'd;
MUTUAL LUST || But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
BUDDING ROMANCE || Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest;
CURRENT LOVE || Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
FUTURE LOVE || When in eternal lines to time thou growest;
FINAL LOVE || So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
SOUL-MATE || So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

EX FROM HELL || Enjoy'd no sooner, but despised straight;
STALKER || Past reason hunted; and no sooner had,
SADIST || Past reason hated, as a swallow'd bait,
TORMENTER || On purpose laid to make the taker mad:
LOVE/HATE || Mad in pursuit, and in possession so;
DESPISED || Had, having, and in quest to have, extreme;
FORMER FRIEND || A bliss in proof,--and prov'd, a very woe;
TRAITOR || Before, a joy propos'd; behind, a dream:
BLOOD-FEUD || All this the world well knows; yet none knows well
VENDETTA || To shun the heaven that leads men to this hell.
