Merlina stood outside the doors to the Yule dance watching the festivities with mild amusement. She had dressed up this year especially for it in the hopes that Ryuu might actually attend or might actually ask her to dance but even a small glance was enough to tell her that it was all a pipe dream. Turning she walked away, out the main doors and along the gravelled yard to the courtyard and slowly wandered up the steps to the North Tower. She took her time in no rush for anything or anyone, feeling decidedly silly now for going to so much trouble. Merlina looked a lot different to the gawky kid burdened with puppy fat and glasses that she had been in first year and now more resembled her mother than she ever had before.

Slender now she had during the Brightstone weekend gone and had her hair all chopped up, giving her a very elfish almost boyish appearance though she was much too feminine to be mistaken for a member of the opposite gender. Especially in the dress she wore that came to just above her knees. Out onto the parapet she walked and continued on to the nearest turret looking out across at the evening sky. The stars were beginning to twinkle brightly already and the moon in it's crescent form glimmered brightly on the lake below. Resting her chin on her hands as she leaned forward Merlina wondered why she still went unnoticed. Her cousin was striking and almost eerie at times in her strange beauty and Merlina knew she would never be able to attain anything like that but she knew she was pretty now at least and had even hoped that her best friend would finally be able to see that too. She knew she was still very foolish for holding out when other boys were asking her constantly but she didn't want any other boy. From the first time she had seen him, there had ever only been one for her and no one else came close. If she couldn't have him then she would simply do without.

A star shot arcross the heavens and she closed her eyes slowly wishing hard not caring how superstitious she was behaving.
'I wish not for love, I wish for this... one touch, one dance, one kiss. I'll be happy... for that much at least' .
She knew full well that a wish used for love was merely a wish wasted, love had it's own magic and could not be persuaded or moved along by magic.

Outfit Wearing

Things have been as quiet as the grave for Ryuu. Months had passed and he barely came out of his dorm to do anything other than a few classes here and there, as well as spend a few moments here and there with his best friend Merlina. Tonight as Ryuu had perceived it to be was none other than the Yule Ball dance. Ryuu had not asked anyone, nor would he. He did not see the point in going to a dance when nothing can be learned from it. Ryuu sat on his bed in his dorms, with his pasty white hands over his face. Just a few more days now and he would be returning to Japan to continue his gruesome training. One would think his body would not be able to take it, alas, it could now. He was raised to fight. He was raised to kill. Ryuu was a Guardian.

It was hardest on him. He was the only child in the Arai family. It was one unfortunate event. The twins of his had suddenly vanished off the face of the earth. Ryuu couldn’t feel sad for them either. He was barely a hollow shell. Ryuu clasped his hands together, intertwining his fingers and he stared ahead with his unnatural pale, pale blue eyes. Much of his hair covered his face, as his gaze met with his reflection. What he saw was not what others had seen. What he saw was a being that was meant to protect, a being without a free will. What others see is a handsome Japanese boy with flawless white skin and dark hair. He was much taller than he was in his first year, but his magic skills had not approved much. Ryuu stood up, and he continued to stare at his reflection. He looked more and more like a ghost in subtle mourning.

Ryuu let out a sigh. He could not change his appearance even if he wanted to. Tonight, he chose to wonder the shadows. Ryuu exited the Gryffindor house, and he started to go down floors, when he glanced behind him toward the towers. Ryuu felt that is where he needed to be. Turning, Ryuu glided up the stairs, and he ended his journey in the towers, where sure enough, his best friend waited. She had grown quite beautiful over the years, and yet, Ryuu had yet to truly feel anything. There was a tiny something, but it was too faint to catch. Ryuu stood in the same proximity, and he put his hands at his sides. It was not uncommon for Ryuu to stand and not speak. I wonder what she is looking at. Ryuu could see the sky from where he stood, and it was obvious that what she sees up in the heavens, Ryuu could not see it.

She neither heard him or saw him until she turned to move away from the turret. Her eyes widened a little as she looked at him before a smile spread wide across her face.
“Ryuu” her hands clasped behind her back, as her right foot slid itself around on the ball before straightening up again.
“You’re not joining in the festivities then?” she asked taking her hands out and smoothing down the front of her dress, wondering if he thought her completely over the top. He wasn’t into the frivolities that others were and though she wasn’t usually one to partake either herself, she had felt the urge to do so this time.

The urge to simply look pretty for a change had been overwhelming and she had hoped she wasn’t going to turn into one of those silly girls with nothing else to do all day but preen themselves in front of a mirror. Merlina knew this would never happen though, so it was a pointless concern. Ryuu looked incredible but then in her opinion he always did. She knew that he would be returning to Japan again for the vacation and would be going through the usual gruelling training that his family subjected him too and it broke her heart. It was always first sight of him after the holidays that was the hardest, the scars he bore were so much greater then.

She had decided though that as a gift when he returned for the next semester she would have a box of all different types of healing creams from the medicinal market all ready for him.

Music travelled up to them from the hall, the door of the school must be open. The delightful harmonic tones of different stringed instruments reached them on a soft note where they stood and she smiled. Was it all coincidence? That she had made that wish and the moment it had been thought he had shown up? Merlina believed strongly in magic and fate so believed that it wasn’t really a coincidence, that they were to meet here for whatever purpose. Just as they had been meant to meet so long ago and become friends.

Pale blue eyes that could remind those of a lost soul met with Merlina's once she turned around and spoke. Ryuu continued to fail to show emotion, and his outfit reflected that of an outsider. This was not his world, he did not belong here. Ryuu moved slightly, his black hair falling over his face on the left side. Why was he even here? He knew just as well as he knew the night sky that he could harm Merlina in more than one way. He just didn't see why he was with her, in this room, drawn. It was what his father had pounded into his head, that little voice was none other than the memories of his father.

"You cannot become close to anyone while at that school! You must train! Learn! Fight! That is all you will ever do! That is your fate!"
Ryuu was nothing more but a little puppet... A puppet to a controlled environment. He had a choice, but he was too blind to see it. It had been there, dangling in front of his face, yet Ryuu's pale blue eyes just could not see it. It was sad, almost pathetic. All Ryuu needed was some feelings to and his eyes to truly open, instead of them being as blocked and lost as they had always been. Ryuu slowly moved the hair from his face, just as the strings from the puppet-master allowed him to. At least now, the lost eyes could see the sight of what Merlina had become.

A beautiful Ravenclaw girl, one that would be too stupid to not love, to not cherish, yet Ryuu was blind to that too. He was blind that the reason why he was drawn to her was because of fate. Alas, Ryuu knew not what fate was. It took him a moment to translate the English in his mind, and to find to right words, "I saw no...purpose to join them." Ryuu thought of the question, and he spoke slowly, "You...aren't joining them either... You should be enjoying yourself." Words without much meaning. Did Ryuu even know what 'enjoying' really was?

She smiled affectionately at him but shook her head slowly. There was something else she had been doing in the time they were apart and though she knew she was a long way from being efficient at it she hoped he would appreciate the effort she was trying to make.
"Watashi ga ... iku to ... kangae" she floundered in Japanese biting her lip and hoping her pronunciation was alright. She would go to any lengths for him, even so far as to learn his language as he always seemed so uncomfortable using the one language that was common to them both.

"I am enjoying myself, you're here now" she beamed at him, wishing that her pride did not feel slighted because he had not commented on her mode of dress. Any other boy perhaps would have, she wasn't even sure about that considering the only boy she spent time with was Ryuu, but she heard the other girls talking and how they often basked in the praise and compliments of boys they liked. It didn't matter that she knew Ryuu was different and that she preferred him that way, she was still a young girl who had gone to a lot of trouble to look nice just for him.

"The music is nice" she bit her lip again, floundering for something to say and realizing in the same moment that occurrence very seldom happened between them. She usually always had something to say, while he invariably listened.

translation: I thought about going

Ryuu listened to the Japanese that slid off of Merlina’s tongue, and though she was no where near perfect, Ryuu still appreciated the thought. Though Ryuu was still struggling with English, he figured that he would allow Merlina to hear his own Japanese voice, “Watashi wa anata no doryoku ni kansha.” His voice sounded much different than when he used English. He sounded much more comfortable, and much smoother. It was his native tongue, and even then, his voice was as hollow as a tree, but as musical as a harp. It was something most did not hear, and Ryuu had finally shared it with Merlina.

Softly, he translated his own words, “It means ‘I appreciate your efforts’.” He would not have said that if he did not mean it. He was taught to never lie, under any circumstance. Ryuu glanced down at the ground, and though her words sounded truthful, why did she not have some other boy’s presence? Why his? He did not treat her like other boys treated other girls. He did what came naturally to him, which wasn’t much. It was sad really, but Ryuu was slowly learning. He was experiencing many things here that were new to him. Magic, sunshine, a friendship.

Ryuu’s head softly inclined to the direction of which the music was coming from. It was indeed pleasant to the ears. Ryuu turned his pale eyes toward Merlina and he slowly nodded. This was the agreement, and his troubled English remained as he said, “It is nice.” Ryuu did not know that he should have asked her to dance. It was proper for a male to do, shame he wasn’t raised in that type of environment or else he would. Poor Ryuu did not know how to dance.

Her own feeble attempt had nothing on the beauty that flowed from Ryuu's lips as he spoke his own language. She had never heard him speak it before and noticed that even his voice sounded somehow different. More assured and melodious. She wished deeply that he would speak more in Japanese to her, happily she would listen to him all day long if he did and he'd most likely never hear another word out of her ever again. Just when she thought she really knew him, he surprised her with something as simple as that. After explaining to her what he had said she beamed brightly, though a wave of incurable shyness seemed to wash over her.

They stood listening to the music, delighted that he thought it was pleasant and as the time ticked she knew in her heart that he would not ask her to dance. Her wish would not come true unless she gave it a little shove, helped the fates out as she seemed to do quite often. Moving closer to him a serene smile on her face she held out her right hand.

"Will you dance with me Ryuu?"

Nothing passed Ryuu's lungs except the simple breathing. He did not know what she was meaning. Dance? Ryuu did not step away, nor did he take her hand. All that rested on his face was that same subtle cold look, with a hint of puzzlement. Ryuu slowly put his hand up to touch hers in acceptance, before he withdrew before really grasping her hand. "I...I cannot accept." Ryuu paused for a moment, but he glanced down at floor. How in the world can he word it? Especially in English that was hardly understandable. "I..." It was obvious that Ryuu was struggling with his words. Damn English for being such a difficult language to learn.

"I cannot accept something unless I...know what it is. Could...you demonstrate?" Ryuu held his hands softly at his side. If only given the chance, Ryuu could be a natural. His body was built to move gracefully, but that was just in his training. If he could manipulate how he could move into a steady rhythm of dance, then he would know how. Sadly though, he was about as tuneless as a common toad. Once Merlina demonstrated, Ryuu could give it a try, just like he had with friendship. This was just another obstacle.

She watched the uncertainty on his features as his hand reached and then withdrew. Her heart felt like shattering when he said he could not accept. Rejection with Ryuu was something she was getting to know more and more and each time she came back for another unhealthy dose. As if her ego enjoyed the battering it got when she was near him. Nodding her head slowly she lowered her hand, she would not cry. She would push the rejection down deep and wallow in it later but as she thought this Ryuu spoke again. Merlina was always so patient with how he spoke, never rushing him as English was not his first language. It was not hers either but she had been taught it really well since she was very small.

"You.. want me to demonstrate?" at least that was better than an outright no, she should have known that he would not have been taught how to dance. The training he was given so obviously did not include dance steps for warriors.
"Ok" she smiled at him, then taking a deep breath listened a moment to the music playing before glancing at him. Holding up her right hand as if about to wave, while her left arm was poised before her as if holding onto an imaginary person, Merlina coughed lightly before beginning.

"You place one hand into mine" waving the particular hand she meant, "while your other hand is placed just under my other arm across my back." She told him first how the male lead would take a step forwards and in so doing, the lady would retreat a step, before taking a side step and bringing both feet together. The man, she then informed him retreated a step while the lady stepped forward before repeating the side step and bringing their feet together again. She told him it was like creating a box shape and once the movements were done in one direction, the male simply turned the woman so as to perform the same steps in a different direction. She knew at this point that she should probably show him and exhaling a little she readied herself.

As she did each step she kept it simple and very basic. There was no point in overwhelming him with a gazillion different styles of dance steps. The box waltz was such an easy one to begin with and she hoped he would think the same. When she finally stopped her demonstration she looked at him for a moment placing her hands at her sides as she did so.
"Was that ok?" Merlina gave herself very little credit, her movements had been perfectly timed and graceful, smooth and elegant. All the dance lessons she had received certainly had paid off.

If his training was hard, Ryuu could not compare it to this. Memorizing steps and all that. He was at least going to attempt at this dancing. It had to be rather enjoyable if she wanted to do it. Whatever Merlina was into, Ryuu could give it a try. A subtle smile was brought to his face when he saw her hold an imaginary person and demonstrate. He remembered the movements in his head, but performing them would be another task altogether.

Ryuu would not like taking the lead into these things, but he was a natural born leader. Well, he could be if he chose to be one. Ryuu slowly approached Merlina once she stopped demonstrating, and he murmured, "So, we begin like..." Ryuu cautiously and slowly put his hand on the small part of her back, so gentle, he was afraid of just crushing her with his bare hand. The closeness was enough to put him in a tense posture, but he would have to get over it to give her what she wanted. Which was a dance. Ryuu had his other hand out for her to take, and he continued to speak, "...this?"

Ryuu was obviously not going to be the best dancer in the world.

She watched him come near her and waited, his hand reached out and held her where she had earlier indicated. A shiver ran through her and she swallowed hard unable to take her eyes from his as both seemed to be standing as rigid as the other. Slowly she glanced at his other hand as she reached up slowly and tentatively placed her other hand inside the cool confines of his. A moment in which she closed her eyes and enjoyed the feel of being this close over came her but she knew he would not stay like this for very long.

"That's perfect" she told him timidly, "now a step forward then to the side and together." She began to count the steps first for them before they moved wondering if he would be as great a dancer as he was a warrior. His body was lithe and supple and as lean as it was, she could feel the hard muscles beneath the fabric of this clothing as her other hand held his upper arm.

"When you're ready, boys lead" she smiled at him, her hazel eyes unwavering from his as the music continued to pulsate up from the hall.

His fingers wrapped around Merlina's and strange enough, he did not feel her as a threat. Ryuu took a deep breath, and he murmured, "Forgive me...if I am not to your satisfactions." Ryuu's eyes flickered, the emotions in them somehow reflected that of Merlina's, only for a split second, and not enough for Ryuu to notice. Ryuu had strong feelings for Merlina, and they seemed to show in his eyes for that tiniest of second. Yet, Ryuu had no idea what they were, or what they were called. A subtle smile painted across his pale lips.

Ever so slowly, Ryuu repeated the moves and the steps in his mind, before he commanded his legs to obey. It was amazing, really. He may be a rather stiff dancer, so far, but he wasn't stepping on her toes. Ryuu's forte was fighting, not dancing, and it was showing rather boldly. It was a slow dance, and the time began to fly. Murmuring, Ryuu spoke once more, "Um, are you having a good time?"

Merlina could not help but smile when he spoke to her, how could she tell this gentle soul, this vicious hard warrior that he was everything to her. She hoped her smile would say what she could not in that moment, he was very much to her satisfaction and always had been. Merlina saw the flicker of a smile on his beautiful lips and her own brightened at this.

It seemed as if their actions were all in slow motion, as tentatively they performed the steps becoming more adapt at them as they continued. Her small hand felt so comfortable in his strong pale one and though he had never danced before she wanted to commend him on doing it wonderfully now. But she did not speak, afraid to break the magic that seemed to envelope them. Her eyes did not leave his once and when he became the first to speak, she knew it was probably about time she said something as well.
"I think this is the best moment of my life so far... are you... having a good time?".

Ryuu could never read a person, for he was not really around people. Emotions, he could not read either. Whatever she wanted to say to him, it would only be by voice, if he could understand that as well. The dance was rather slow, but the time they spent together always seemed to fly. The dance was going rather smoothly, and Ryuu had yet to mess up. In fact, things were moving rather instinctively. Like, he had known how to do this his entire life. “I am…” Ryuu spoke, his words lacking anything more than blank emotion. It was really a shame that he could not do more for Merlina, and he couldn’t express how he really felt when he himself didn’t even know he had that sort of feeling. It was so far away, yet so close too. Only time would really tell. Ryuu fell into silence, and allowed the music to fill the air around them.

With each moment that passed and still their gazes locked, she noted that it was not uncomfortable at all. That looking at him like this was so much more than she had ever hoped before. Usually they were side by side or just casting a glance at one another if standing infront of the other, but this was so much different. She smiled when he concurred that he was enjoying himself as well and she was so glad that dancing with her was not repulsive to him.

It pained her greatly then that the tempo of the music changed and a loud vicious type of beat belted out and thankfully someone had the sense to close the entrance hall doors to drown out the noise for that was all it could be referred to. She did not want to stop dancing but knew they had too now. So slowly her feet stopped but as yet she could not bring herself to release her hand from his or move her other hand from his arm. She looked still into the eyes of the boy she had given her heart too in what seemed like a life time ago now and she smiled shyly at him.
"All good things come to an end. Thank you for the dancing with me Ryuu".

When the music changed, needless to say that Ryuu had froze and inclined his head in the direction to listen to such a beat, something so fast and something that made him fairly uncomfortable. There was no possible way he could have ignored that and continued to waltz. Though his hand that held hers had a firm grip, Ryuu loosened considerably. Ryuu didn't back away nor did he feel like releasing Merlina. What if he messed up and hurt her somehow? Ryuu didn't want that. "And I thank you for teaching me, Merlina." Her smile caused him to smile down at her so vaguely.

Slowly, Ryuu back away, releasing her from his hold. He didn't know what else to do. Instead, he bowed. It was customary for him to bow to teachers, and Merlina had just taught him. It was something Ryuu did out of instinct. "If there is anything else you would like to teach me, I welcome it." His English seemed to be improving just as he practiced it. It wasn't anything like his Japanese voice, but it was something. "This...is your night. I will do whatever you ask of me." Ryuu straightened his position and he flicked some of his silky black hair from his ghostly face.

She could have stayed there in that dancing pose all evening long no matter how stiff and tired her arms would have gotten but Ryuu moved away with the drastic change in beat.
"You're welcome" she smiled at him noticing the slightest of smiles on his own face and wishing she could have frozen that moment for just a bit longer. Merlina considered Ryuu possibly one of the most handsome boys she had ever come across and to see the smallest of smiles grace his lips catapulted him into the stratosphere in her eyes. He practically dazzled her in that instant and she wondered what he was capable of doing to her if he ever dared to smile properly.

His question stumped her for there was nothing she wanted more than what she had gotten already. She came from a wealthy family, a pureblood Italian family who catered to her every whim and yet she found her greatest moments of happiness when she was with Ryuu Arai. She watched the slight motion of moving some hair from his face and knew he had very little human contact in his life. She had even grown used to not physically touching him the way she had in the beginning for fear she would offend him somehow. Well he said it was her night though she wondered why and he would do whatever she asked of him.

Merlina stepped closer. All her family and friends in Italy hugged one another constantly and yet she could count on one hand how many times herself and Ryuu had hugged or more to the point, how many times she had hugged him for he had never returned the embrace, obviously like dancing simply not knowing how too. Who was there at his home to hug him after a grueling day of training? She didn't think there was anyone and yet she would give up her pureblood status, her families riches to be that one. Shyness overwhelming her again she gazed up at him.
"I would like you to... to hug me then. Properly hug me" she told him, not even sure if he would understand what she meant by this.

Ryuu held a steady posture, and even he had to admit, that fast beat music was irritating him and making him more uncomfortable by the second. It seemed like it would never end, and it made him want to retreat to the shadows and just lurk in the silence that he once called a home. The shadows, whilst he wasn't training, that was where he stayed. In the basements of his house without any light. It never judged him, like him, seemed only misunderstood. The darkness was where Ryuu preferred but if pushed and introduced enough into the light, Ryuu would surely follow through.

Her request made Ryuu's pale blue eyes flicker with utmost confusion. From the heavens to the deepest of hells, what in the world was she requesting from him? Ryuu's hand went to the back of his head, and he ran his fingers through his hair. His gaze went to the ground. No matter how hard he tried to get what she meant, he just couldn't. That was the English that he didn't understand. Ryuu murmured, "Um, I...don't understand what you are asking." Damn him, why didn't he know English that much? Or maybe, he just didn't know what in the world a hug was? He knew what it meant to embrace another, but Ryuu had never done that, nor did he connect that embracing was also known as a hug.

She somehow knew that this would be the case and wasn't at all surprised by his words. What did surprise her was the level of emotion that swamped her for him, now all she wanted to do was hold him because he clearly hadn't been held in the longest time if ever. Rummaging in her head for the right words she took the last step that would bring her directly before him again.
"kore wa ... hōyō ... sa re" she said sincerely and with a grave level of seriousness as she put both her arms about his shoulders and held him close to her, Merlina's head rested lightly against the side of his.

"You must put your arms about me and we just hold each other. That's a hug" her voice sounded slightly strained from such close proximity to him but she did not wish to be anywhere else in the world at that moment. Her eyes closed automatically as she allowed herself to simply enjoy the embrace and hoped that he would not balk at the concept but go with it and put his arms about her.

translation: 'this is a hug'

Ryuu continued to stare at her when she spoke in his native tongue. Flashbacks of his siblings appeared in his mind, hearing some of those words, connecting one with the other. Before they vanished, they hugged all the time. Ryuu was excluded, thinking that it was nothing more than mere childish behavior at the point. But now, he wasn't so sure. Ryuu tensed quite a bit, almost feeling the urge to jump back when Merlina physically touched him like so. They were so close, it brought many alarms in Ryuu's head, yet one voice that he had never heard spoke to him, his own subconscious, telling him what to do.
"Hikihanasu shi nai de kudasai! Go taizai ga , kanojo wo ukeireru..." Translation: "Do not pull away! Stay there and embrace her..."

Ryuu felt comfort with his own voice telling him what to do. It was the first sign, the first true sign that revealed that he had choices, he had a will. He wasn't just a puppet. One of the many strings had been severed. A work in progress, but maybe now it will move at a quicker pace. Slowly, Ryuu's arms wrapped around Merlina's back, only giving her a gentle hug. His pale blue eyes closed, as he nuzzled his head beside hers. One of the only signs of affection he had shown in his lifetime. Ryuu was a bit dizzy, but he held his cool, stone-like stance. The only thing he had to ensure of was not freak out, or out of instinct, he could really harm Merlina.

Merlina was so convinced that he would pull away from her but soon enough she felt his arms go about her and realized she had been holding herself with the greatest tension possible. Slowly she allowed herself to relax into the embrace knowing that this might be the only one they share for a while if ever again but now that he had performed one, surely her mind deduced he would not be adverse to others. She could happily picture herself greeting him from now on with a warm embrace hoping that with each one a piece of his armour would break away to reveal the human beneath.

Her fingers played softly with his hair until her eyes opened and she hesitantly moved herself from the hug with great care.
"Thank you Ryuu" she whispered and as tempted as she was to lay a soft peck to his cheek she knew not to push her luck. Instead she held out her hand to him, a smile playing on her face.
"Will you watch the stars with me?"

As long as Ryuu had some warning before the act of embracing one and another, then he would not refuse her. Why would he when slowly, he was breaking free of his strings? Of his steel walls about him? All Ryuu needed was a little time. He needed to get used to this hugging business. Ryuu needed to remember, hug means embrace. That was all he needed. Ryuu felt Merlina pull away, in which he had also. Ryuu stood there, no emotion on his face, and he released some of the tension that he was holding in his muscular form. Ryuu simply bowed when she thanked him. Ryuu’s pale blue eyes glanced down at her hand, before he slowly took it. “I would be honored.”

Merlina had been to the ramparts of the old castle to view the stars before, usually of course she was also surrounded by her astronomy class so this time was definitely special in her view. Walking with his hand in hers they came to the turrets that graced the wall of the tower and releasing his hand for a moment she attempted to climb upwards. He would probably do it in seconds but she was not as agile as he, so had to do things the clumsy way. Finding a foothold she managed to haul herself up and was finally sitting down, making sure not to go too near the edge for it was a long way down.

She waited for him to come beside her again while in the mean time she lay back gazing upwards and the beauty before them. The array of stars in the night sky were spectacular and she felt herself glad once more that she was getting to see them like this with Ryuu.
"Do you know much about the stars Ryuu?" she asked of him, her hands clasped now over her chest as she continued her observation of the star speckled sky.

Ryuu watched her climb the wall, and he knew that he could make it up rather swiftly and quickly if he really tried it. Ryuu waited for her to haul herself up and set herself down before he even started to climb up. Which was rather simple. He was quick and strong, and soon enough he was sitting right next to Merlina. He didn’t lay down, but he brought a knee close to his chest and propped an arm on it. His head leaned back toward the stars, and he shook his head at her question. He knew more about people than he did the stars. “I don’t… But sometimes I do think they are ancient guardians from the Land of the Dead watching us from above. But that is…just from a dream.” Ryuu sighed and he shook his head. The cold boy refused to reveal anything to do with his dreams.

Turning her head a fraction she watched him enviously as he scaled the parapet with evident speed and grace. As he sat beside her she turned her gaze towards the stars once more, she loved the night sky and knew her cousin had loved it very much at one time as well. Now she feared the full moon when once it was something she had adored. Merlina dragged her thoughts back to the here and now as Ryuu spoke to her.
"I like that" she mused glancing from the stars to him and back again, before slowly sitting up so their arms brushed lightly. She would normally have gathered her own legs up to her as well but the dress she wore did not make such a move decent in any way, so she kept her slender legs straight out in front of her, crossing them only at the ankle.

"Would you share the dream with me?" she asked looking to his profile as she spoke, wanting to know so much about him that she was certain she had only barely scraped the surface of till now.
