Katie Swan was running excitedly toward Amber's house. She was staying over at the fellow Hufflepuff's house and she couldn't wait to get there. The holidays had so far been boring, being in the constant company of her Aunt and she was so happy to finally get out of the house and spend time with her good friend. She hadn't seen her in a while and it was going to be a great time to catch up with her. Adjusting the back pack on her back she approached the massive and elegant house. She couldn't wait, she had packed enough sugafy junk food and soda to keep them awake for a week. Smiling Katie ran up the to the door of Amber's house and knocked. Bouncing from one foot to the other she waited for Amber to answer the door and let the sleepover begin.

The young witch sighed at nothing, bored from spending a day reading useless books, assigned to her by her grandmother. Amber was supposed to know how to walk, and act like a royal, when she wasn't even royal, a ridiculous thing to ask of a teenager, yet her grandmother didn't see anything wrong with treating Amber like a child, refusing to accept she was growing up just as much as anyone else. Surely her grandmother's old fashioned way of thinking would subside, leaving Amber free reign to do what she wanted with her time, instead of finding herself bored. The witch knew she didn't have to read all the books her grandmother sent her, nor did she need to do anything her grandmother said, yet the brunette had an overhanging cloud of duty looming over her head. Amber's path was obvious, this obedience she endured as a child would eventually crumble away into nothing, revealing an angsty, rebellious teenager to the world, but somehow the idea of going against the restrictions posed by her family seemed too foreign, meaning any intention Amber might have had to rebel, destroy, or break any form of law was non-existent.

The knocks on Amber's front door echoed through her house, causing her to stand up from her desk, and quickly return her books to her bookshelf, before running down the stairs towards the front door. Midyear, Amber's mother and father had let all the staff go, except for the chef, who also worked as a housekeeper, leaving Amber feeling more alone in her house than ever, no matter how kind, and entertaining her housekeeper was. Thus being the reason Amber was especially excited to play host to her closest friend Katie that night for a sleepover. School had caused the two to grow apart nearing the end of the school year, but now that the holidays had started, Amber and Katie could reconnect through a mountain of sugary junk food and giggling, until their eyelids grew heavy and they put themselves to rest for the night. But luckily the night had barely begun, and all the fourteen year old Amber had to do was open the door, instigating the beginning of their sleepover.

She slowly turned the doorknob, pulling the large oak door towards her, a wide smile appearing on her features as her best friend Katie came into view. "Hey!" Amber exclaimed, rushing forward to give Katie a quick hug, before grabbing her friend's wrist, and walking inside with Katie in tow. Amber led her younger friend to her bedroom, perching herself on the window seat once they arrived, assuming Katie would join her. "What would you like to do first?" She asked, her toothy grin widening. They could start by catching up on each other's lives, or they could eat as much junk food as they could handle, the choice was left up to Katie.

Katie's face lit up with a smile when she was greeted by Amber. She hadn't seen her friend in such a long time, it was weird to see her again after so long. "Hey!" she replied returing her hug. Following behind Amber she didn't get much chance to look at the expansive house. Entering Amber's room Katie's mouth dropped open in complete awe. She had never seen such an amazing bedroom, then again she hadn't much to compare it with. Her bedroom at home was as bare and barren as a desert. This was pure heaven in a room. Recovering from her initial shock Katie turned to the brunette and shrugged. "Let's catch up? I haven't seen you in forever!" she exclaimed hurrying over to Amber and perching herself next to her. "What's been happening?" she asked leaning forward and propping her chin up on her hand expectantly.

Amber pursed her lips together, tilting her head towards the roof and trying to establish a witty reply or at least an interesting one, that didn't cause her friend's eyes to glaze over, while her mouth hung slightly open. Of course the last thing the brunette wanted was to bore Katie, yet she honestly had nothing to say, no funny or interesting stories came to mind when the younger Hufflepuff asked Amber what had been happening. So the fourteen year old stared down at her hands for a moment, smiling at her clenched fists before looking up and focusing her smile, and attention back on Katie. "Nothing's been happening, really." Amber replied, moving a stray lock of wavy brown hair behind her ear. It was in the holidays, when she was stuck inside, reading boring books, did Amber long for a more interesting life. She had scraped away travelling to France in the holidays, only to be assigned more books, and to spend more of her time inside than ever before. Hopefully Katie would make for distraction enough from her tedious life, if only for one night. "So what's been happening with you then?" She asked, shaking her head and bringing herself back into reality while a confident smile appeared on her features, a place so much more interesting now that Katie was in her company.

Katie giggled, “Really nothing?” she asked amazed that there couldn’t be a single thing that Amber could tell her. Frowning momentarily Katie nudged Amber in the side, “Okay, tell me what you had for breakfast, then, that’s something.” She said grinning at the brunette silently begging her tell her something and trying to reassure Amber that she wasn’t going to bore her. Thinking for a moment her eyes sparkled mischievously, “Well,” she began a grin spreading on her face. She had some pretty amazing gossip and she hadn’t been able to share, “You know my horrible aunt that is always mean to me and stuff?” she asked. “Well she went on a date last week!” she laughed, her aunt was never one to pay any attention any men, ever and all of a sudden she was out dating. “That’s why she let me come to yours, she smitten over some guy!” Katie found this great, with Cassandra distracted by some guy she had met, she had let up on Katie, and let her do almost anything she wanted. She secretly wished that Cassandra started dating earlier; the blond might have had a good childhood if she had.

Amber shrugged, giggling along with Katie, she really had missed spending time with her friend, being the reason this sleepover was so important for the two to finally catch each other up on the details of the past year. Especially since Katie's aunt agreed to let her go. "I had blueberry pancakes and raisin toast with butter on the side. Oh and orange juice!" Amber exclaimed, the chef had never hesitated in satisfying Amber's sweet tooth, especially in the morning when the last thing the brunette wanted to do was eat, except for when eating something as wonderful as blueberry pancakes that is. A smile graced Amber's features as Katie spoke, breaking into a laugh once the younger Hufflepuff said her aunt had gone on a date. The idea seemed ridiculous, that the controlling aunt Katie had described to her over their friendship would ever start dating. Or do anything that involves fun for that matter. "Have you met this guy?" She asked after her laughter had died down into a wide smile. Amber knew nothing about dating, simply due to her being fourteen, but somebody like Katie's aunt on a date seemed so surreal. Possibly because the only romantic relationship she had seen was between her mother and father, so seeing two other people in love, if anything close to it on a date was just so foreign to the her. Even then, Amber saw the concept of relationships in a distorted way, because she hardly saw her parents throughout her childhood, filling the absence of a role model with other things.
