Professor Ava Davershire joined in as the Great Hall filled with cheers and claps, welcoming the new students to each of their houses. Sorting was such an exciting time but Ava bet that many of the first years were relieved that it was over and they now knew where they would be for the next seven years. She remembered fondly back to her sorting day, though Hogwarts New Zealand didn't exist at that time; which was a scary thought and not one that she'd share willingly with everyone. This was the first Sorting that Ava attended as the Headmistress, an exciting time to say the least. The end of the last year had finished with the expulsion of two students, and it wasn't something the Headmistress enjoyed doing, and she hoped that the next few years would be relatively peaceful.
After the Hall quietened down slightly, Ava removed the sorting stool and hat, not wanting to deny the young witches and wizards of their feast any longer than needed. Approaching the podium, a silence fell over the Hall. "Before we begin the amazing feast that has been prepared for you all, I have a couple more things to say. I am Professor Ava Davershire, and I am the Headmistress - as some of you may know. We have two new Professor's with us, so join me in welcoming them; we have Professor Malachy Scythe, who will be teaching Charms, years One through Four. And, Professor Speed Stark, who will be teaching Care of Magical Creatures, Three through Four." Ava smiled at the two new Professors, clapping along with the crowd.
Ava looked back at the students, feeling her own stomach grumbling. It was time to wrap things up knowing that the young student's stomachs were probably way more empty than her own. "I hope you have all emptied your brains and are ready for a year of learning - keep out of trouble, but have fun! And now, we eat." Ava grinned at the Hall as the plates filled with food. Ava swiftly made her way back to her seat before filling her plate with some food and turning to the Professors next to her and began chatting.

Peter, his ever hyper self, was practically bouncing to get back to Hogwarts. He was always excited to get back to school – he loved it – but now that he had gotten a taste of Quidditch last year he was more excited about getting back to that than anything. Taking a seat at the Gryffindor table he talked away to the people sitting beside him, talking about what they got up to over the holidays and whatnot. Peter's holiday was nothing special, his mum and dad were out working quite a bit and he was left to look after his little sister which wasn't as easy as it used to be now that she had found out feet and her voice. Although it was fun chasing her around the back garden and helping her play on the toy Quidditch stick that she had gotten last Christmas. It only went a foot in the air so she could never really harm herself but Peter was definitely training her to become a Quidditch Player, much to his mothers disappointment, as she wanted to have a proper little girl but when she came home the dress Charlette was wearing that morning would be ruined – but Peter just laughed it off.

Hearing the doors of the Great Hall open Peter looked up and watched the new first years make their way in, he forgot what it was like to be that small a few years ago - and that scared and excited all at once. He cheered along with his fellow Gryffindors when a new first year joined their great house. Once the Ceremony was over Peter saw the food appear in front of him and he could hear his stomach rumbling, Just in time! he thought as he reached for some foods and began to enjoy his meal

LeAnn sat beside Aphrodite at the Gryffindor table after she said goodbye to her other best friend, Krystin, who went to sit at the Slytherin table. LeAnn was used to not having the three girls sit together at the big feasts in the school. LeAnn had long been used to the fact that everyone was separated by houses and not by class but it still irked her slightly that the three friends weren't able to talk and comment on the new students during the start of year feast. Although LeAnn had calmed down a lot since her first year, she didn't like to admit it but she had become a little bit softer but she put that down to Gryffindors being nice and being surrounded by them all the time. Plus when she was at home her mother was a lot more friendlier now that she had Andrew and the new babies. Admittedly Andrew and the babies had been a big part of LeAnn's life as well and she felt that now she had a properly family and was an older sister she had more responsibility and had grown up quite a bit – she did like it in a way but would revert back to old ways when she had the chance for fun.

Hearing the doors open LeAnn looked as the new first years walked into the Great Hall, sitting on the outside of the table she was able to have the best view of them. She giggled a bit as she saw the looks on some of their faces, they were so nieve and some of them clearly didn't meet her standards of company – she just hoped the few that did made it into Gryffindor or Slytherin, that way she could bare having their company; heck she might even stand Ravenclaw seeing as Aphrodite's boyfriend was from Ravenclaw and if he was good enough for her he would be good enough for LeAnn, and he did seem nice enough. Watching the ceremony she saw some potentials of somewhat decent company, not that she would interact with a first year unless she absolutely had too. It wasn't long until the ceremony was over, and LeAnn began to have some food while conversing with Aphrodite about the new first years that made it into their house.

Giselle sat down in between the girls in her dorm as they had all met once they got off the train made their way down to the Great Hall together. Giselle was rather excited to get back to school – but it was like that every year. It's not because she hadn't enjoyed her holidays, far from it in fact, she had got to spend some of the holidays with Brunhilde and Aiden. She hadn't seen either of them in what felt like absolute ages as she barely had time to reply to their letters, what with classes and the yearbook, she was rather busy last year. While Giselle was happy that it was the start of another year she was kind of sad because Rakas had graduated last year. Even though he was only her uncle through her adoption he was still the closest thing she had to a friend in the school. She had been so busy with things that she had sort of lost contact with Mylie and the only other people she knew where the ones in the Yearbook and clubs she was in but she wouldn't call them great friends, really. With a small sigh she listened to the Headmistress gave the usual speech – just a different person.

Giselle thought back to the last start of year feasts she had in Hogwarts and each year she would promise that year would be different but she didn't bother making that promise to herself as she was fed up making promises to herself that she couldn't keep, she would much rather see what happens that way she wouldn't be disappointed. Being lost in her thoughts the sorting ceremony didn't seem to last long, clapping and welcoming the new Gryffindors she dug into the feast.

David dressed in his freshly cleaned robes for the first time this year. He couldn't believe that it was the start of the year already, then again he always said that every year, they just seemed to run in even quicker as he advanced in the years. His last year had been nothing special and pretty much the same as each year past, boring. David didn't want to not enjoy his schooling experience but he just couldn't seem to do anything right, he was into his fifth year already and he had no friends other than that of his pet cat, Tiger, but not in the creepy way that crazy old cat ladies are made. It wasn't like he didn't have friends because he was busy with homework and studying, or his extra curricular activities – he pretty much did nothing in his spare time. Unless of course it was reading up on dragons, of course his family business was something that he was expected to go into himself and unlike his older brothers an sister who all took their own career paths David wanted to follow in his fathers footsteps.

Pushing his future out of his mind he looked up at the front of the hall as the new Headmistress began to speak. It was weird having yet another new person conduct the Start of Year Feast as there had already been a few in his five years at Hogwarts New Zealand, Let's hope she lasts he thought to himself as the Headmistress finished her short speech and started to conduct the Sorting Ceremony. It was always fun watching the Sorting Ceremony and seeing the new first years, nervous and excited and no idea what to expect. It wasn't long before the Ceremony was over and the food was served. This year will be better! he promised as he reached for a plate of food in front of him and tried to at least enjoy what was left of his fourth year because next year meant OWLs and he would have to at least give classes a good shot.

Kyle had been pretty nervous about the sorting but it was finally over and he was grinning because the sorting hat had given him his heart's desire, he had been sorted into Gryffindor, just like his mom. Still grinning he walked trying not to trip over his robes as he walked towards the Gryffindor table were a few people were still clapping. He was not very accustomed to wearing robes. Despite the fact that he had grown up in a wizarding household and that his parents always wore robes, he usually dressed in muggle clothing. His robes were long but they felt right, he was finally at Hogwarts and in Gryffindor!

He watched the other first years get sorted and then heard headmistress Davershire speak to the students and he clapped as she introduced the two new staff members. After that as she spoke about food, Kyle remembered how hungry he felt. The snacking on the train hadn't been much of the help due to his nerves and he was starving again. He had only heard about the feasts that Hogwarts had but like many other students as the food appeared before them, Kyle was amazed. He had no idea where the food came from but it was mouthwatering. He took a little of everything in his plate and allowed his mouth to taste the delicious dishes. He loved the cake, the pumpkin juice, mashed potatoes and this other rice thing whose name he did not know. He did not talk much through his meal just heard some other Gryffindors chat. "Are you a prefect?" he asked one of the older boys that sat across him.

Kyle was not much of a trouble maker and he was too spirited therefore he would do his best to earn points for Gryffindor but he just wanted to make sure what kind of things would make him lose points and he would try and avoid them to his best ability.
