Callie pressed her ear up against the door to the prefects' common room. There was a meeting in progress, she'd heard, and what better way to find out what being a prefect here entailed than to listen in? She wasn't doing any harm. Unfortunately, the wood of the door was thick and she couldn't hear much. Just the odd word or two. She leaned right into it, closing her eyes to concentrate better.

Mikael didn't have much expectations for the prefects' meeting when Elio and Hinata had dragged him to attend it. It was all a bunch of nonsense and posturing from the Head Boy and Head Girl that he hardly wanted to deal with. And so after calling out his thoughts on their joke of a list, and calling out to his supposed patrol partner, he left the meeting. He had expected to see his boyfriend waiting for him outside. He did not expect the resistance as he opened the door and saw a younger student who he suspected was trying to eavesdrop. He pointedly closed the door behind him, brow raised as he looked at the younger girl. Gryffindors.

Callie stumbled back as the door opened into her. A look of guilt crossed her face, until she remembered she had a right to be here and frowned. "What?" she said. "I was just listening. That's not against the rules, is it?"

Mikael was wholly unimpressed. “If first years were allowed to listen in, the door would be open or you’d be allowed to enter,” he said before turning to the door and frowning at it. He took his wand out and whispered a spell so the girl wouldn’t hear, silencing the hushed voices from the other side.

Elio strolled to the corridor where the Prefect's meeting was, surprised when he head Mikael's voice, because the meeting wasn't over yet, was it? He blinked, quickly moving faster before he encountered Mikael talking to a first year. How odd. "Kael?" he asked, reaching out to touch his boyfriend's waist. "Do you have a new friend?"

Mania stumbled across a peculiar view, her best friend with two older students. Giving a smile at all three of them she took place next to Callie. "If such a meeting was supposed to be kept as such a secret they need to step up their game, for that door is awfully thin." She stated, feeling the need to back her friend up against these older boys. Callie had probably simply stumbled upon an interesting situation, who could blame her after all.

"No, just came across a little eavesdropper," he said as he tucked his wand back as he opened an arm up to let Elio come up to his side. "First year from your house," Mikael said with a shrug just as another girl came up to them. "The meetings aren't secret; no one's just been stupid enough to press their ear to the door. If you're going to eavesdrop at least do it smartly." He did agree though that the prefects and Head people really did need to do better if a couple of first years are capable of listening in through the door. Well, there will be other meetings, and Kael will just have to make sure to set the charm just in case. The girl would at least have to be smarter. He was surrounded by too many Gryffindors.

Callie was struggling to come up with a good retort when suddenly Nia materialised to supply one for her. Nia! Her timing was perfect in more ways than one, for Callie had intended to go and look for her after her eavesdropping session. She grinned, raising her brow at the Slytherin prefect and his boyfriend. They didn't seem too cross with her, so she decided to push her luck. "So you know a better way?" she asked. "Can you tell me?"

"Well, in my experience, pressing your ear to the door isn't the best way to go about it, and honestly, you won't hear much in there unless they're shouting," he gave Mikael a pointed look, because clearly the meeting wasn't finished if it was just them in the hall right now. "But yes, please, do tell us Kael, what the best method is." He knew Mikael would have some ideas, probably having eavesdropped some himself.

Mania grinned at Callie then at the older boy, ooooohhh he was kind of encouraging this behaviour. "Go on snake, I am listening. Tell us what to do next time, you seem like you know your way around eavesdropping." She was very interested now, surely this boy was more than just talk. Nia nudged Callie's shoulder, excited about the possibility of learning a new more sufficient way of minding other people's business.

Too many Gryffindors. Mikael was surrounded by too many Gryffindors. Did they really expect him to just tell them? He ignored his boyfriend's pointed look because he was definitely not returning to the meeting that was definitely still ongoing. He guessed it would be over soon enough though with the chaos that had erupted courtesy of Bailey's sister. Still, he had no intention of being here teaching first years how to eavesdrop so he turned and directed Elio to start walking. "Expecting me to just give you the answers. Gryffindors," he said with a roll of his eyes. "I'm sure Elio here can teach you a thing or two since he's a troublemaker and friends with one."

Callie linked her arm through Nia's, feeling even more confident with her best friend by her side. The fact the older Gryffindor was encouraging them helped a bit, too. But Kael, if that was his name, didn't seem so interested in entertaining them. "A trouble-maker?" said Callie. "But we're not trouble-makers. I'm going to be a prefect one day. That's why I was listening in." Still, she wasn't going to argue if either of them wanted to share their eavesdropping tips.
