Sorting Ceremony Y49

Tiernan was pretty ready for this to be over, and it hadn't really begun. He knew it would take forever, his surname was Whitlock, he wasn't going to end up being sorted until like last. He kept close to his brother, spotting one of his siblings in the room. Turlough had been concerned about her, and he had decided it made sense. They didn't have ties to where Tuilla was at school, and he had no interest in learning a language just to be able to go. He walked with the other students until they got to the front of the hall. He did linger at the back of the group, looking away from what was happening, uninterested in the hat, and much more interested in the room itself, to the different tables, the students. Trying to get a feel for what sort of place this was.

As predicted, it took forever before Tiernan heard his name, and he was glad to be sorted before his brother. He knew that it was important for them to stick together, but a house wasn't about to stop him from going to see him. Nothing would. Tiernan sat on the stool and looked out at the hall of students. He rolled his eyes as the hat was placed on his head, sure that the hat could likely sense his impatience and draw this out.

"No need to drag this out when it's pretty clear where you'll excel...Slytherin!"

Amias had been looking forward to school. He'd gone to muggle school, but he hadn't really found a place there. he was the slightly weird kid who had odd things happen to him and who always ended up having lunch on his own. But this was Hogwarts and they were all magical, so they were all weird kids. He wasn't sure that would necessarily translate to having friends but there was a better chance of it than before. The boy moved towards the front of the group, curious about what would happen, his father had attended Durmstrang, they didn't have houses. So, he was curious. Amias listened to the song, thinking it well written.

His name wasn't one of the first to be called, but he was early enough in the list. He stepped forward and almost made to reach out to the headmaster to shake the man's hand before he realised he didn't need to do that, and he just needed to sit. Amias let the hat be placed on his head and tried to keep his mind busy - he was sure it would be easier for the hat to sort through the noise of his thoughts, than it would be if his mind was empty.

"Intelligent, certainly. But in your case, I don't see Ravenclaw as the right house for you. No, you'll achieve more within...Hufflepuff!"

Einar Drage figured that this would be the best thing for him - going to school away from the oldest sibling of his. Einar did not want his brother to miss out on his favorite school and his friends because of the move. Einar just told him that he would be fine out on his own, so when he walked in the Great Hall, he looked over the tables, and then up at the ceiling. It looked amazing. The spells and magic. He could hardly believe it. He also loved that his last name was Drage and not Styx - despite having that blood in him.

He could be sorted sooner. And not long, his name was called. Einar walked up to the stool and sat down. The hat plopped on top of his head. He waited for the hat to start speaking. He wondered what house he would be sorted into. The Drage and Styx family were all diverse. His uncle might have attended, but he was not sure when it came down to his mother's siblings.

"Well, there's certainly a lot of history for you here. A lot of options for where your legacy could take you but I see a clear place for you, in amongst people who enjoy learning as much as you do...Ravenclaw,"

His parents attended her a long time ago. Valentin Grimm, a Gryffindor, and Vesta Zhefarovich, a Ravenclaw. Mephistopholes Grimm wondered if he would end up either house. It could be either. Or neither. Meph stood in the Great Hall among the other first years that waited to be sorted. Some were patient. Some were not. Some might have even dreaded it. Meph, on the other hand, just stood there, waiting his turn after hearing the announcement, and then the song. His surname was Grimm, so it was in the middle. Meph wondered if the Headmaster would pronounce his name correctly or not. That would be funny. Soon, he heard his name. Meph crossed some of the others that were waiting, and then sat down. He placed his hands on his lap, as he stared blankly at the others sitting at the tables, separated by qualities and mascots.

"Though our students are separated, I think you'll find largely, they are not so different. In fact like you, they could probably fit in a few places, but there always is one trait above the rest which decides ultimately where I place you. For you....the trait takes you to...Slytherin,"

Astrid let out a yawn as they entered the whatever-area-of-the-castle-this-was. Why did this thing have to be so late? Couldn't this have waited until the morning? Not to mention... wasn't it dinnertime? Couldn't this have waited until after dinner at least? What was even all the fuss about? Sorting, she snorted. They were acting like this was some life-changing thing. Please. Just get a life. Really. "Just pick a dorm already!" she complained out loud - whether it would be heard aaaaall the way to the front was questionable. Still, she wasn't about to stand around waiting for her name to be called. Which was great because they were made to stand exactly between two tables of students whose colored robes she didn't quite care enough to notice. "Scoot over will ya?" she said to no one in particular before squeezing herself into a seat because she didn't quite care to stand there and be gawked at thank you very much. Now sit here and be gawked at she didn't mind. She even flipped her hair just so it wouldn't bother her as it sat in front of her shoulder rather than flowing down her back. It was unfortunate that there was yet to be food on the table she could pick on. Sigh. Whoever told Daddy school would be a good idea had definitely never been to one.

"Freecss, Astrid."

"Ah, there we are," she said as she stood up from the seat she had invaded and squished herself into and then brushed off imaginary dust from her robes. "Shoo, shoo, let me through," she tutted at the students in front of her because why should she have to push her way through? It didn't take long at least before she was sitting on the stool, Sorting Hat placed on her head. "You know, this would go by a lot faster if there were multiples of you. Or like if you'd just let us draw sticks. I'm hungry."

"I guess if you want multiple of me you'll have to study hard and make one, but I don't think that's at all what you desire to do with your time at Hogwarts. No, I see a very different set of goals for you and ones best achieved in....Gryffindor,"

This was an absolute dream come true for someone like Newt Kingston because this was the school that taught many of his distant relatives, but it was also the same school that Effie Kingston taught. She taught Arithmancy a long time ago, and she was also the Hufflepuff Head of House. Newt honestly did not know or care what house he was going to be sorted into. His father was a Hufflepuff when he was here, before he moved over to the one in Scotland. His mother was a Gryffindor. He was sure that his grandfather on his father's side was a Ravenclaw. So, he just knew that he would not be a Slytherin. Newt did not have any sort of ambition in him. He stood with the rest of the first years, and waited for his name. He smiled as his name was called. He walked up to the stool, turned to face everyone and sat down. He placed his hands on his lap, and waited. He'd love to be in the same house as his mother. Gryffindor. Was he brave enough? He did love adventure.

"Interesting what you would desire, when I see a much, much clearer direction. Though you are adventurous, the spirit of hard work flows through you..Hufflepuff,"

Finally, she was where she should always be. Nothing else mattered, She shifted her feet nervously and gave nervous glances at the Gryffindor table. She calmed her nervous breathing, all was well. Her mom was in Ravenclaw and her dad was in Slytherin, Aelora ended up in Gryffindor, but she had no preference. When she heard her name Cassie was overwhelmed with calm.

"I can see that though you say you have no preference, there is a little there. It helps that I see it, I see that adventurous and bold nature, so yes...Gryffindor,"

Lewis was slightly nervous, but mostly excited. How could he not be, he was about to be sorted! Finally, he could be with his siblings. It was Hina's last year so he would get to spend a little of time with his big sister before she moved on to wherever she was going after school. He had heard from his parents that apparently his big sister was really good at spells so he was looking forward to being able to learn with her before she left, and then he could learn with Eli and with Sayuri and Jonah and Rose, although probably not Rose or Jonah because they didn't seem like they were really all that interested in teaching him. He would still ask though. He was excited to know which of his siblings he would follow, and was mostly hoping that he would go into the same house as Jonah and Hina, though he didn't know if that was something he would actually get to do. It wasn't that he didn't love his other siblings, but if not Hufflepuff, probably Slytherin with Sayuri (since secretly she was his favourite sibling).

When he heard his name called, he squeezed his way to the front and immediately saw his dad making weird faces??? he thought he might be trying to smile at him, but maybe he was just unsure what house Lewis would be in and was trying not to be too obvious about his preference, since they all knew Mum wanted them all in Gryffindor. He stepped up to the hat, shooting a quick grin to his siblings and tried not to trip over his feet in his excitement to get up there. The stool felt too big and too high, but he didn't care as he scrambled onto it - he was so ready! The hat dropped over his eyes, thrusting him into darkness. Okay hat, please don't put me somewhere boring!

"There is no house at Hogwarts which is boring, each are interesting in their own ways to each individual in them. But I can where is best for you, where you will find to be the 'least' boring...Gryffindor,"

Rouge’s hand was clasped tightly to her sisters as they entered the Great Hall together. As the doors opened and they were presented with the room, the brunettes jaw softly dropped open as she tried to take it all in. There was so much to process, and so many people. She kept up with the other first years as they were ushered toward the front, not wanting to fall behind and become lost from the others. This place looked like something out of one of her books that a place she was now calling home. Could she take photos to show mama?

The first year waited patiently for their names to be called, thankful that their brother would be going first, so at least they could watch him be sorted before they had to go up to the stool.

Once it was time, Rouge took a deep breath and let go of Rose’s hand, walking through the remaining students and taking a seat at the head of the hall. This would be fine. No matter where she was. She glanced at her siblings, at least they’d all be in one school together.

"Well, there's something in your name which certainly will make this fun for you..I see a clear path for you, given your desire for adventure..Gryffindor,"

Blanc was being hold onto by his sister, or least his robes were. The boy had for the most part been bouncing up and down on preparation for the sorting ceremony since he’d left the Hogwarts Express. He was very excited too that he’d be sorted before his sisters because that meant he would get a good view of the girls being sorted into their houses from his bench.

As the group was gathered near the front, silence and whispers running through the crowd of new first years, Blanc was swinging his arm through the air. On the end of his arm, was his hand, and in his hand was a small green and yellow dinosaur figurine that he’d managed to keep hold of. He was sure mama or Rosé would have gotten rid of it given half the chance but neither had been paying attention. As they were stood watching the students be sorted into their houses, Blanc quietly and slowly lifted the dinosaur toward one of the students next to him, making the mouth of the dinosaur start «nibbling» on the first years ear lobe.

Before he was caught, Blanc quickly looked away and thankfully at the same time, his name was called. He jogged up to the platform and plonked himself on the chair, excited to see where he would be placed.

"Well, I think you would've made a pretty good hufflepuff, but there is something to this ambition - to be known which is not particularly hufflepuff. Instead it is...Gryffindor,"

James had been told in great detail what Hogwarts was like, the layout, the structure, the general vibe. None of that had prepared him for how cool the castle looked when he arrived. He stood as part of the large group of his fellow first years, all waiting to get sorted after making the trip to the great hall and walking down through the gap between tables toward a raggedy old hat. Noah and Alana had kept that part quiet, he had to put an old hat on his head? Seemed like an odd thing to do. His name came early on in the alphabetical order so James was one of the first to take a seat and wait for the hat to be lowered.

"Hmm, I see you don't particularly like old things, and I could draw this out, but I don't need to. I see exactly the path for you...Slytherin,"

Ro had practically stuck herself to her siblings on the way into the Great Hall. So much so that she didn't even get the chance to take in her surroundings because she was too busy making sure Rouge and Blanc were keeping up with the rest of the group, not bumping into the other students, and were going up to the stool when their names were called. She knew she'd have plenty of time to check things out in her own time, but now wasn't that moment. The blonde looked around the face of first years, noticing a couple from the train and reminding herself not to get too distracted by them.

It was Blanc that was called first, and nudging her brother in the right direction she watched as he was called into his house. Next up however, it was Ro's turn. She gave her sister's hand a reassuring squeeze, hoping she would see her again soon, before taking a seat of her own in front of the students. The hall was bigger than she'd pictured it be, although that was probably why it was called Great. As Ro waited to be sorted into her house, she tried to run through a mental picture of the corridors they'd already come through on the way here, so that at least she would have a vague idea of where they needed to go tonight after their dinner. Gosh, she would probably have to learn multiple routes too, wasn't she, and to different areas of the castle. She was already frankly ready for bed.

Zion Baros entered the Great Hall, and immediately looked to see if he could see Finley. And not long, he did eventually see him sitting at the Gryffindor house table. It was hard not to miss. The ties were all red and gold. The other houses looked good too, and without his mother attending, it was hard to say what house he would belong in. His father did not attend either. But his uncle Zennon was a Slytherin, and his aunt Grace was a Gryffindor. Then the other Baros clan, Rowan and Elsie were in Gryffindor and Ravenclaw. Was there ever a Hufflepuff? Maybe one not too close.

His mind ran rampant until he heard his name. Oh no, he didn't even see his twin sorted! He strolled up to the stool and sat down. He looked up to see the hat lowering, but almost got his face covered. He had to look down really quick to avoid that. He hoped that the hat did not have a smell because he would have received of that. He waited, twiddling his thumbs as he wondered when the hat would make its decision.

Eulalia Fox was aware that this was where her father's parents first met, even though they never remained together. It was a fun story of how they met. She was always told how much alike she was with her dear grandmother. She would love to know more stories from her mother and her mother's family, but apparently there were none left. The small family never stood a chance, it appeared. Eulalia might have been a bit standoffish, cold, and could be borderline cruel, she did make a couple of friends before she even arrived at the school. She did not have to wait long to be sorted because of her name.

And because of Astrid Freecss, Eulalia was pulled into a group of other girls - Isla and Annika. Naturally, she wanted to be sorted with them. However, it seemed like that would not hold true later on. Eulalia heard her name called. She walked up to the stool and sat down. Her expression never wavered as she felt the hat perch upon her dark waves that cascaded around her shoulders. If it weren't for her father's parents, she wouldn't even know what sort of house background she had. Slytherin or Ravenclaw. That was all she knew.
