Sorting Ceremony Y48

As soon as Persephonia entered the Great Hall, she could not distinguish the feeling of being excited and the need to back away due to the overwhelming ambience that was filled with noise and the number of people. She clutched her robe tight and twisted her pockets inside to ease the uncomfortable sensation of her own thoughts, mixed with her readiness to be sorted, making her palms go sweaty. It was not fear that she was experiencing, but everything else seemed to be closing upon her with no room to breathe.

For one thing, she was not paying attention much to the song nor what the professor had told about the Forbidden Forest. But by the name of it, she knew surely enough that she is not to step foot on its grounds. Her nana did not graduate from Hogwarts, so it is no question why she had not given any precautions regarding about the darkness that could possibly loom in its domain. Her parents, however, were too busy and she had not seen them for a year and only sent an owl on her birthday last year whilst sending her dolls and books that could highly pique her interest every moon.

One could tell that by looking on the ground waiting could mean that a person was shy. Subjective in terms of perspective. She had thought. The main reason that she could not look at the podium nor maintain her curiosity around her was merely because the crowd itself was making her dizzy. Like a false vertigo.

She sighed and inhaled a quiet sharpness of breath when suddenly her name has been finally called.

At last, at last. She thought to herself as she sat on the stool, waiting for the wise hat to make its decision.

"At last indeed, and quick this will be. I am wise and my decision will be one easily made. I see what you want, and with this intelligence, I agree...Ravenclaw,"

Christa stood in the long line of students, her heart almost beating out of her chest. She could hardly believe this was actually happening. Just three months ago she had been sitting in her family's little house in Parramatta, blissfully unaware that she would soon be surrounded by wizards, magic and an entire school full of people who had been living a completely different life from her own. Now, here she was, her new robes itching slightly at the collar, eyes wide as she watched the students ahead of her. The hall was enormous, the stone walls stretching higher into the vaulted ceiling than she thought they should be able to. The candles were floating overhead, casting a warm sort of golden glow over the tables, and she couldn't help but to look up, her mouth dry at the sight. It was all so terribly different from what she'd ever known, but also somehow, everything was so cool. Was all of this just for her benefit? Did they do this for everyone?

She tried to focus, to slow her racing thoughts. "It's not that big of a deal," she whispered under her breath, though it wasn't helping to calm her very well. After all, it wasn't every day that you got sorted into a wizarding house, was it? She didn't know much about them, though she'd tried to read up on it a little. The different houses seemed to come with different opinions from everyone else in different houses, and everyone seemed to think their house was the best. As the line moved forward, Christa adjusted her glasses - no, wait. She didn't need her glasses actually, and so she pulled them over her head instead. Her whole world was now shifting into focus and she wasn't sure what to make of it.

Langley, Christa!

She flinched, feeling her face heat up as the entire hall seemed to turn to look at her. Her heart thumped in her chest again as she forced herself to make her way up the steps to the stool, the solitary, surrounded stool. She tried to ignore the way the students were watching her - maybe they weren't even watching her, but it really felt like they were. She was definitely not used to this kind of attention, but there was no going back now. She dropped herself into the stool, the nervous energy buzzing through her as the weird little hat was placed on her head. She hoped it didn't mind the sweat. She could barely hear the voice in her head, but it felt as though it was sifting through her brain, trying to figure her out. It was weird... a very weird feeling indeed.

"I am sifting through your mind, figuring you out. Once I've found it, I'll know exactly where you should go. I'll say, that you would've made a rather good Hufflepuff with that kind and hard-working nature but, I feel you'll see great success in...Gryffindor,"

Adrien was curious to be in Hogwarts, it was gonna be interesting for sure so that was what Adrien was focusing on. He was trying to absorb as much as he could to know what was gonna happen when he got forward. So when his name was called, Adrien was prepared. Just a hat on the head that was gonna say something just to him and then yell out the house. Nice. What was the difference between the houses? He had no idea more than just from the history book but standards changed all the time, right? No way it was gonna be the same way as it was hundreds of years ago. So Adrien just accepted the thought of being sorted where the hat found it fit. He was sure he was gonna make it in any place, so when called, Adrien went and sat down under the hat waiting for the decision to come.

"You can certainly read all about it in the history books about me that we have in the library. For you though, there's quite a lot I can see, a lot of varying paths, a lot of different elements pulling you in different directions. It makes you almost difficult to place, but I see it...Gryffindor,"

Tessaria wasn’t sure if she was ready for what was ahead of her. It had been so long coming, however it was a big step for the girl and the thought of having to become a little more independent was admittedly daunting, yet exciting, as she had been wanting to discover Hogwarts for herself for so long. She had relied so much on her parents however and now she was going to have to step foot into Hogwarts by herself. At least her sisters were already there, waiting for her, and her father was a professor in the school. She had a good support system, and so just tried her best to think positive thoughts as she walked through the giant double doors into the Great Hall with all of the other soon-to-be first years.

As Tess stepped foot into the hall, she suddenly felt so small. Older students stared at the group as they walked between the tables to the front where the sorting hat was waiting for them. The girl wanted desperately to be sorted and was keen to have the hat placed on her head, however she was admittedly a little frightened of where it would put her. She wanted desperately to go somewhere she already knew, like Hufflepuff or Gryffindor. She didn't think she suited the other houses, but not knowing at all where she would go was somehow making her feel a little nervous, which was very unlike her. She still felt excited however, and felt a smile on her face as they approached the sorting stool and the name calling began.

It wasn't long before it was her turn and Tess happily stepped up to sit on the stool. She took a deep breath and spoke in her head to the hat. Hello, Mr Hat. Do you remember sorting my siblings? What about my mother? Are you old enough to have sorted my mother? Do you think I would be like them? She wasn't sure if the hat would respond to her, but thought talking to it would be nice nonetheless. After all, it made her feel a little more comfortable in the situation she was in.

"I sort too many people to remember any one. And this is about you, it is not about them. In you, I see a lot of ambition. I see a lot of loyalty, but perhaps not as much loyalty as you think you have..however...I do still believe both of these make you most suited to where I see you'd like to go...Gryffindor,"

The Spanish girl looked around, glancing at her new schoolmates. Some of them looked nervous and some of them looked excited to get sorted. She was amongst the latter - she couldn't wait to get sorted. Starla could not wait to get sorted, and start classes. When would the classes start? Would it be tomorrow or the day after that?

Starla waited patiently for her turn.

"I see that you are very eager to get started, and I am eager to help you along the way...Ravenclaw,"

Henri was very ready to be sorted. He knew it was the first step in his Hogwarts journey but better, it would enable him to sit down and then get back to the book he'd been reading. Henri knew it was important, his mother had pressed to him that sorting was important. But he also just wanted it to be done and over with sooner rather than later. The good thing was, his friend, the girl from the park was in his year, and that was cool. That was going to make things cool. He had sat with her on the train and was sticking close to her as they were brought into the hall. He trailed to the back a little distracted by what he was sure was a bug scuttling along the ground, and then he spotted his sister. He waved at her. "Hey Apolline!" Henri said excitedly, before almost bumping into one of the first years at the back and almost tripping up in the process.

He found a spot to stand in and then looked to the front, peering across the other students as the hat began to sing. he knew this, well, he knew that the hat would sing, he knew that the singing would be followed with the names. he didn't know why the song was something the hat did, and he wondered if perhaps there were any books on it. Maybe he could look into the library and see if there was anything. There had to be something on it, because the hat was old, and people would've written about something so old. he knew from what his mother said that this hat served both Hogwarts, and whether it sang the same song or had region specific songs he didn't know. But someone would know.

"Fontaine, Henri,"

henri was so caught up in all of that, he just barely caught his name being called. "Sorry," he said loudly before moving to the front and then immediately as he stepped forward tripping up over his own feet. He fell to the ground with an oof, and then got back up and with not a hint of embarrassment at what had happened and how long he was taking brushed himself down and then went to sit. He looked up at the other students, and knew that the hat wouldn't be able to answer all of the questions that he had, mostly because he knew it didn't have the time, there were lots of other students to sort.

"Those sure are a lot of questions floating around in your mind. You're curious, no doubt about that one. And that might make it seem obvious where I should send you, but you march to your own beat and you'll be best guided in... Hufflepuff!"

Hachiro stepped into the Great Hall, his eyes immediately scanning the vast room. He kept his brother by his side, not letting him out of his sight for anything. The ceiling was almost like an enchanted mirror, the sky outside calm. He wondered if they could enchant it to make it look like it was stormy or calm instead of looking what it might be outside in the actual weather. He could feel the weight of hundreds of eyes on him and he especially felt the eyes of one of the Professors up at the Staff table. He looked up to catch whom he assumed was his cousins eyes, and then turned his face away. He wasn't looking for a family reunion at the moment, and he didn't care about most of the rest of the family at all anyway, since his little family was the only important part in any of this. His parents had both warned him about the ceremony, but nothing could have prepared him for the sheer number of people staring. He wasn't normally one to shy away from attention, but this was... different. It felt almost suffocating, a feeling he wasn't completely comfortable with. He shrugged it off quickly, though - he wasn’t about to let something as small as nerves ruin his moment.

"Great," he muttered, glancing to the long tables of students. They all seemed like he didn't want to be there. The Gryffindor table looked too loud, the Hufflepuff table too cheerful, the Ravenclaw table too smug, and the Slytherin table? He didn’t even need to give that one a second glance. He wasn’t interested in fitting into any of their little cliques. And then his brother's name was called, and his interest piqued as he watched him head up and seat himself on the stool, his head covered by the hat. He was then moved to the Hufflepuff table, and Chiro knew then that it was the house he had to be in too. His brother wouldn't want to be there without him, obviously, how was he supposed to make friends without Chiro?

"Kaster, Hachiro,"

Soon his name was announced and he stood up straight, walking towards the stool, his steps casual, despite the heat of the moment. He took a deep breath, his eyes never leaving his brother ad he took a careful seat. He didn't want people to know how much he was disliking this attention, especially since he had a bit of a reputation for being something of an attention-seeker. As he sat down, he gave the audience one last glance, his expression cool and unimpressed. He wasn't sure what to expect, but he was sure of one thing - he wasn't here to fit in. He just needed to get through this and then move on to more interesting things.

"I see what you desire, and really, you'd be fine there, but I think there's more to you...and something which can only be explored if you branch out a little....Slytherin,"

After spending hours on a train and then crowded among her peers in a group headed through the great hall, Carolina felt overwhelmed, like she needed a breath of fresh air after being cooped up and in one place for so long. It didn't help that her surroundings were so unfamiliar and as such she felt a little bit lost, almost clinging to the small familiarities she could find. She felt like a bird in a cage almost, like she wanted to run away and fly in the sky and be amongst the trees where she felt like herself, instead of in a big castle that was so new, and felt so scary. She held on tightly to her sister's hand as they walked through the hall, wide eyes watching he surroundings and scanning the faces of the crowds of students sat at each house table. Among them Carolina spotted her cousin and quickly looked away, worrying she would draw attention to herself if she waved and choosing to then keep her attention to the far end of the great hall instead.

It felt like ages before the group finally slowed to a stop and the sorting ceremony began. Carolina continued to watch intently, eyes trained on the hat for the most part, only really straying for a moment to look over to the staff table and spotting her dad. He made a silly face at her which caused Carolina to giggle quietly and lean into her sister's side to try not to interrupt the ceremony and run the risk of getting in trouble.

Eventually Carolina heard her sister's name called, of course before her own, and reluctantly let go of Aleja's hand to watch her sit on the stool and the hat begin to sort her. The hat placed her in Hufflepuff, and before Carolina really had a chance to process this her own name was called. Swallowing down a knot in the back of her throat, Carolina followed her sister's steps and walked forward, sitting on the stool and waiting for the hat to be placed on her head so she could be sorted as well. She wondered where her own placement would be, and if it would be the same as Aleja or if they would be separated. She secretly hoped they would stay together, mostly because she wouldn't know what to do if she was anywhere without her twin sister. They were one in the same and had always been best friends, she was terrified of losing the security of knowing Aleja would always be nearby if they needed each other.

"I see what you desire above everything and why you desire it. I think you would make a good ravenclaw, you've a good brain and keen sense of learning, but...I know that wouldn't what you want and really, this is a good fit for you so yes....Hufflepuff,"

Autumn had been waiting for this moment for quite some time. She had been thinking about exactly how it would happen. She wondered if the sorting hat would take its time sorting her, or would he remember sorting her parents and go for the easiest choice? Not knowing exactly how it was going to go was making her slightly nervous. This could dictate the next seven years of her life, and it all relied on a smelly old hat. You'd think after all these years they would at least wash the thing.

Autumn stared up at the hat that sat upon the stool as she anticipated how the next few moments would go. She was glad that she wasn't one of the first to step up. Some people also seemed nervous, some looked a little more confident. How could anyone be so sure where they'd end up? She couldn't help but think of her mother and how her family almost disowned her simply because of where she ended up. She knew her parents wouldn't ever think of doing such a thing - after all, Violet ended up in Ravenclaw of all places, however she wanted at least something a little familiar.

Autumn was first to be called up just before her sister. She looked over briefly at Willow before stepping up and tentatively sat upon the stool as the dusty hat sat on her head. At least it didn't smell as bad as she thought. Perhaps they really did try to care for it after all. She held her breath as the hat began to think.

"I've never once smell, this is propaganda spread by the anti-hat mob. But this isn't about me, this is about you. I'm torn, I can see what you desire, but question if its right...Well...actually, maybe it is...Slytherin,"

Willow had been waiting for this exact moment for a while now. She had played every possible scenario in her head, from the worst, which was probably her tripping or falling whilst going up to the stool to be sorted, to the best, both her and Autumn being together for the next seven years, in the same house as their parents. She didn't think she would mind if she were sorted into a different house, like Ravenclaw where Violet was, but it would be so much more fun if her and Autumn could continue to be roommates. Willow was convinced her mum and dad would be super proud if she were to be in Slytherin.

She was feeling a mix of emotions, and so many thoughts were running through her head as they were led into what she already knew was the extravagant-looking great hall. It was almost too much to take in. So many faces just staring at them. Willow stared right back, not really feeling as intimidated by the older students as she'd anticipated. Although she was definitely feeling a little nervous, but was doing her best not to show it. Surname starting with 'O', she had to wait a while. It seemed to go by really quickly as Autumn was called up in no time. She glanced at her sister, making eye contact as she went to be sorted. Into the same house as her parents had once been. What luck. Then, it was her turn.

She took a deep breath as her own name was called and approached the stool a little tentatively, taking a seat, her next to perfect, graceful dancer posture nearly showing off. Soon, the hat was placed on her head, her vision covered and she wrinkled her nose by instinct. She hoped she didn't have to wear this old, kinda gross thing on her head for too long. She'd styled her hair just hours before! Please don't take ages, dude, I'm trying to make some sort of a good impression here. Positive vibes only. Just think about your music, just think about your music, just think about your music...

"If anything, the longer I take the more interesting you seem to all the people here. But if you insist I can make this quick since I can see what you desire, and that'll fit you perfectly...Slytherin,"

Aaron didn't want to think about everything that had happened since he'd gotten on that train, if he was being honest, a lot of things were happening and he didn't think he liked any of them. The sound of his sneakers was barely audible against the stone floor. His eyes widened as he took in the massive space, the enchanted ceiling above, twinkling down in a way that made him immediately think of the holograms he's seen in the university his dad taught at. Sometimes his ma would bring home some of those little fish things with the digital parts and that was how it would look a lot of the time. If they replaced it with fish, that was what it would be like. He looked around to see if he could see any light lines, but couldn't see anything at the moment, but that wouldn't necessarily mean anything, he needed to do more research. The long tables kind of stretched out in front of him, each of the houses seemed to be brimming with their own students, all of them eagerly awaiting the new students they would apparently achieve. Honestly that seemed so weird, nothing like this happened in his school, his normal school. They had sections and stuff, people he would be grouped with, but definitely not something like being placed based on... whatever arbitrary thing they would have put them under. He had been looking forward to what he would be put into next year.

"Dela Cruz, Aaron!"

His heart raced as he approached the stool at the front, nerves bubbling up in his stomach like an overactive scrap plug. I can do this, he thought, trying to calm himself. This wasn’t a video game—no reset buttons here. Aaron stiffened for a moment before he began walking toward the stool. Each step felt like it echoed in his ears, and the whispers of the other students grew louder as he passed by their tables. He tried not to look nervous, even though he could feel the weight of the room’s gaze on him. Finally, he reached the stool, sitting down as the hat was placed on his head. It felt strange, heavy, and far too large for him, but he swallowed his discomfort and waited. The voices in the hall seemed to fade away as a calm, ancient voice entered his mind.

"You can do this, and this while different is going to be a very interesting journey for you. I can see a great deal here, a good amount of bravery, of loyalty of ambition, but I think it's your curiosity which wins out, and for that...Ravenclaw,"

Angelo's mother would have loved to see this, he thought as he tried to take all of the sights in. He'd thought he'd sort of started to move on from the fact that he couldn't bring his phone up until this moment. He could have taken photos of all this to show his mother, and sent them to her so that even if they were in different countries, they could still both be assured that she was still a part of this new life he was finding for himself. There were so many kids here, that he'd never really thought about the fact that so many wizards and witches lived among non-magical folk. Well, he'd never really thought that he'd have to think about it honestly. Not until he was stood here amongst other kids his age to be "sorted" whatever that was. No one really told "muggle-borns" much and it didn't help that he was from another country. It was weird enough to be in a boarding school, weird still to think that their "houses" were being figured out at night. It didn't take long to figure out that "houses" were like "sections" back home. Weird. What was weirder still was that they were being determined by a Hat. A magic Hat. A magic hat who sings and talks. Angelo didn't think he had enough time to actually digest that before Aaron - who had the same last name as him - was called. Which meant he was next and oh god was he ready? Was there a quiz? Wait was the Hat even asking questions? Was it going to read his mind? Would it understand his thoughts?! Did he have to think in English?! Speaking in English was bad enough! What if his grammar was bad?! Would he get put in a lower house?!

"Dela Cruz, Angelo"

Angelo didn't even get to pay enough attention to figure out which house Aaron ended up in. Oh god. It was his turn. Oh Lord Jesus Joseph and Mary. He walked shakily to the front where the Hat stood waiting with the... principal? He was going to fail this quiz because his thoughts weren't in English. Or if they were, they were bad English. "Oh lord I'm so sorry Miss Martinez for not paying attention in class," he sent a silent prayer of apology to his English teacher last year. She was right; he should have practiced his English more. He finally sat down on the stool, the rather large Hat settling on his head and he gulped. "Good evening Mister Sorting Hat ser, I will try my best to answer your questions. I can translate if you don't Tagalog, I can English okay," he whispers. Maybe the Hat would just stick to verbally asking him instead of mentally then.

"Not to worry, I don't need to ask any question, I can already see everything I need to...I see that you desire a certain house, and would say that could help you, but really, there is a different house that will suit you far better....Hufflepuff,"

Echo had heard so much about this school from her family, that she was just ready to get the sorting ceremony over and done with so that she could find her bed and take a nap. The other students around her seemed understandably excited to be told what house they deserved to be in, but in truth Echo wasn't sure it really mattered. You would have the same classes, and have the same chances, wouldn't you? Sure perhaps it would change who you shared a room with, but Echo was just glad to be sharing a room with someone that wasn't her sisters.

She'd glanced around the Great Hall for Iris and Demi at the Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw respectively, and knew that if she wasn't in either of those houses herself it would be a first for their family. Echo wasn't outgoing like their mom, and she didn't use big words like their dad, and while her older sisters had followed their parents footsteps, Echo as usual felt like the odd one out.

When her name was called, the brunette had moved through the crowd towards the stool and took a seat gingerly, careful not to fall off it and make a fool of herself. "Bet you haven't seen one like me before," she whispered to the hat, knowing that wherever this hat put her, she wasn't going to be upset about it and wasn't going to worry if this meant she would continue to be the odd one out in her family.

"Well, of course not, everyone is unique. There are traits people have in common but everyone is different and it is a new challenge every time. Though challenge here is a generous word...this is not hard, I can see exactly where you will be best suited...Slytherin,"

Ryder didn’t have much to go on when it came to the school he was attending, despite his father attending it himself he had kept tight lipped on what it looked like or any other detail. He found himself to be generally impressed by the grandeur of the great hall and wondered if his brother felt the same way. Ryder couldn’t help but look around for potential weak points, gaps that could be filled, places to potentially hide while chaos ensues around him, that kind of thing. When Rowan’s name was called before his, Ryder nudged him gently to push him towards the sorting hat.

“Chase, Ryder,”

With his brother safely in Gryffindor it was Ryder’s turn. He wasn’t overly married to the idea that he was in the same house of his brother, but it would be nice and would make it easier for them to cause trouble together. But trouble and chaos transcended Hogwarts houses so he wasn’t worried too much.

"Trouble and chaos very much does transcend Hogwarts Houses. But I think your particular brand of chaos will be best suited to...Gryffindor,"
