Yevheniy had never been particular good at perhaps showing he cared about people, his family weren't the most forthcoming people with it, they just drank, had a good time and let that do the talking, fully able to take back everything they'd said in the moments of sobriety, Yev fought because he liked it and he knew that his father had helped him learn to fight so that he would always be alert, it didn't matter really that Yev lost a fair amount of those fights or that he went seeking for fights which wasn't exactly what his father had taught him. Looking at Jeremy as he spoke, saying he didn't get to walk away Yev almost scoffed at him, he didn't get to boss him around, it was ridiculous, Yevheniy could feel his own anger bubbling inside him and he didn't want this, he didn't want this stupid thing to be the thing which ended whatever they had. Yevheniy didn't think through his steps when he did things, he was impulsive and thought not of himself, he wasn't even consciously thinking about this was him showing that he perhaps cared, his mind had just impulsively gone for fighting more brutally to make sure that he could, Yev didn't think that was how he showed that he cared, but perhaps it was.
As Jeremy continued Yevheniy had to tell himself to remain calm, he didn't understand why if he was capable of defending himself why he didn't, Yev no matter the fight put in everything, he just jumped straight in and tried his best to win, even if he usually was way off base and ended up in vague dangerous situations. The twenty-year old listened to his last words and shook his head, "What other ways are there?" he asked angrily as the man walked away, he didn't even bother to look at him as he far more slowly packed away his own things, rummaging around in his bag until he picked out the small hip flask tucked away in the corner and there was definitely something other than water within it, he opened it and took a small drink of the bitter beverage shivering a little at the taste. He wiped his face with the towel before he stuffed it in his bag, he needed a bigger drink, he needed to forget all about this, he needed to just put this all out of his head, he needed to get rid of all the sudden regret he was feeling over the fact that he might just've ruined something that was actually pretty decent. Yevheniy cursed heavily in Ukrainian knowing in the back of his mind that he really had ruined something which had been just good and simple, it had been difficult to label and it had suited Yev, he doubted he'd ever find that again, the simplicity and lack of questions had a nice relief and Yevheniy had to hope that no matter how many times he ended up back in that emergency room that he never once had to be treated by Jeremy.
