Luke had legged it so fast down to the Quidditch pitch when he heard that try-outs were open, he'd almost fallen over as he made his way through the entrance. Thankfully he'd managed to avoid the grass stains and embarrassment, making his way up to the Slytherin Captain as cheerfully as he could, doing his best to suppress the nerves in his stomach. "Hello, I'm Luke. Or Lucas. Luke Lagowski," should he have offered the older girl a handshake? "My sister, she's a beater too. For Hufflepuff though. I've flied with her a lot, and the rest of our family, so, I think I'd make a good beater as well." He felt as though he needed to explain himself although he was quickly realising he seemed maybe too eager. He needed to reign it back. "I want to try for Beater, please." Maybe he'd make it on the team, and he'd get the chance to play in a game against Susie. While he didn't want to hurt her, it did call to his competitive side that he could play a game with her.
He'd mounted his broom, picking up a bat and headed out into the sky and waited for his time to shine. Would it have been better if he could prove he could attack or defend? Ideally both, but he wasn't sure which would be more valuable. He started off with defence, trying to figure out which players were the seekers or chasers, although realising if they weren't in front of the hoop or holding a bat, it was a pretty fair assessment he was defending the right players. Taking his own bat, he managed to swipe a few fair hits at the angry balls, at least, enough that he was proud of his own second year performance even if it wasn't as impressive as anyone older than him. He'd tried to attack too, chasing after the Bludgers and hunting them down, although that had proved more difficult. Somehow they always seemed to be faster and more nimble than he was.
At the end of the try-outs, he flew back down to the ground, dropping his bat in the grass and thanking the Captain. Luke proceeded to take a seat on the bench, eyeing up his Slytherin competition.
