Sybil equal parts nervous and excited for the day's try-outs. She had been surprised when she was asked to take over the team since she was pretty sure Vanity hardly knew she existed. But was eager to prove that she had been the right choice. It also made the fact that she had let her grades slip the last few years feel slightly worth it. She stood with a clipboard in hand with the captain pin displayed proudly on her chest as the team and hopefuls began to arrive. "Hi everyone!" she welcomed cheerfully. "As most of you probably know I'm Sybil St. James and I will be the quidditch captain this year." she continued with a smile. "I am so excited to be given this opportunity but I also plan to take it very seriously. Slytherin has a long history of quidditch wins and I hope that this year we can win that trophy back." She hoped she sounded convincing but didn't dwell on it too long before getting down to business. "Returning members, lets get into the air and show me you haven't been sitting around all holiday and for those trying out, please give me your name and what position you are trying out for." Sybil explained and raised her whistle to her lips. "Let's get out there!" she announced and blew on her whistle for good measure.

Luke had legged it so fast down to the Quidditch pitch when he heard that try-outs were open, he'd almost fallen over as he made his way through the entrance. Thankfully he'd managed to avoid the grass stains and embarrassment, making his way up to the Slytherin Captain as cheerfully as he could, doing his best to suppress the nerves in his stomach. "Hello, I'm Luke. Or Lucas. Luke Lagowski," should he have offered the older girl a handshake? "My sister, she's a beater too. For Hufflepuff though. I've flied with her a lot, and the rest of our family, so, I think I'd make a good beater as well." He felt as though he needed to explain himself although he was quickly realising he seemed maybe too eager. He needed to reign it back. "I want to try for Beater, please." Maybe he'd make it on the team, and he'd get the chance to play in a game against Susie. While he didn't want to hurt her, it did call to his competitive side that he could play a game with her.

He'd mounted his broom, picking up a bat and headed out into the sky and waited for his time to shine. Would it have been better if he could prove he could attack or defend? Ideally both, but he wasn't sure which would be more valuable. He started off with defence, trying to figure out which players were the seekers or chasers, although realising if they weren't in front of the hoop or holding a bat, it was a pretty fair assessment he was defending the right players. Taking his own bat, he managed to swipe a few fair hits at the angry balls, at least, enough that he was proud of his own second year performance even if it wasn't as impressive as anyone older than him. He'd tried to attack too, chasing after the Bludgers and hunting them down, although that had proved more difficult. Somehow they always seemed to be faster and more nimble than he was.

At the end of the try-outs, he flew back down to the ground, dropping his bat in the grass and thanking the Captain. Luke proceeded to take a seat on the bench, eyeing up his Slytherin competition.

Gaia was pretty proud of how she'd done last season in Quidditch. She'd defended her hoops fairly well and had no doubt she'd keep proving herself this year. Looking at the new captain she nodded, feeling as though Sybil had been a good choice. Getting onto her broom she then made it towards the hoops and guarded them for the tryouts.

Zeke had been alt seeker last year and didn't want to lose his place on the team. That said, he’d also spent half his break convincing himself he was amazing at everything and it would be a waste not to explore the other positions on the team before he got locked into one permanent position. “Zeke Baros trying out for beater or chaser. Whatever you need, really.” He shrugged. “I was alt seeker last year, I can do that again if you want me to, but I thought I’d branch out. Show my range you know?” He told Sybil who seemed much more affable than the last captain. Not that it was a high bar.

Zeke mounted his broom and kicked off and went in search of bludgers first, narrowly missing one after the next, then nearly spinning himself sideways at one point. A couple of his hits actually connected, sending bludgers off towards other tryouts. Once he was satisfied with that he moved on to chaser, grabbing the quaffle and heading toward the hoops at full speed. He lined up his aim and threw. The quaffle sailed beautifully through the air then completely missed the hoop. "Oh come on!" He said, suspecting foul play from Gaia somehow. It left only the snitch. He’d barely started looking when he spotted it. He lunged without thinking, and caught it almost instantly. Well that was just typical wasn't it? He thought as he made his way back to the ground.

To say Alana was disappointed by the choice for captain would be an understatement. She had been on the team as a regular since her first year, Sybil had been an alternate only two years prior. Her first year as captain would only be her second year as a regular player, and yet she was chosen as captain over her. She thought she had made an impression on Verity during the previous year, they had been beaters together for some time and even patrolled together. But clearly, she had been overlooked and it left a bitter taste in her mouth.

Alana walked out onto the pitch, broom in hand but she wouldn't be getting on it. She would take advantage of her spot on the team and would simply watch the others trying to get on the team. Quietly seething at the injustice she had been subjected to.

Ignatius had struggled quite a lot more than he was willing to admit with OWLs, and for the very first time in his life had done some actual work in the holidays. He had put on a bit of muscle that he was quite proud of, but he still could be pretty speedy on a broom. At least now he could fend off bludger hits. Or so that was his thinking, anyway. He nodded at Sybil with the vaguest hint of a smile and took off to show why he was going to win the trophy this year, come hell or high water.

Ruth really did need to make more of an effort, she knew, but that was hard. If she succeeded, people would expect more and more of her and then get mad when she failed. Rare unexpected moments of brilliance seemed to get a greater reaction from the people around her. Easier to say it was just a fluke and play it off with a giggle and only get attention when she was doing well. But it could get boring at times, and since Sybil had been named Slytherin captain she at least thought she should go and try out for the team again. At least it was something to do.

"Oh my gosh, hey," she greeted with a wave as she clutched her broom. At least she wasn't in the same house as Cyrus, so she wouldn't immediately invite direct comparison. "So like, I'm Ruth," she said with a giggle, as though Sybil didn't know who she was, "and like, you can just put me anywhere, I'll do whatever, but I guess chaser?" She figured she'd try out for chaser first, as that was what she and Cyrus had practiced more than anything, but in Ruth's own estimations she was perfectly adequate in any role. She caught and threw the quaffle pretty well, and the very first shot on goal sailed through. The next wasn't so lucky, her hands shaking a bit with nerves about repeating the shot, and she made a show of giggling and apologising as the younger keeper had to collect the quaffle from where it had veered off to the side of the hoops. She at least ended up scoring more than she missed, and was pretty good at passing the quaffle off to let the other chasers shine. Even if at times she thought she might have taken a better shot than they did.

June felt a little crazy for wanting to join the quidditch team, especially as a first year. She had grown up going to games and hearing about the sport all the time from her aunt and cousin. While Bellamy had never gone pro he had taught her and her sister how to fly when they were probably way too young for it. She would never admit it but she was a little afraid of heights but whenever their family played her competitive side usually won out and she'd take to the air anyways. When she had told January about her plan she had warned her against it, which only made June solidify her plan. She gripped her broom tightly and tried not to think about anything besides her goal. When the time came she walked forward towards the captain and cleared her throat. "H-hi, I'm June Parish and I'm trying out for seeker." she said as confidently as she could which wasn't much. She took to the air next and told herself not to look down, not until she got comfortable. Which did make looking for the snitch effectively a bit difficult. She took her time circling low at first, if anyone asked she'd say she was just trying to avoid running into other players. But thankfully no one asked. Eventually she built some courage and went a bit higher. Her palms felt sweaty but she kept her eyes peeled and finally she saw a flash of gold. Without another thought the chase was on and she paid little attention to her surroundings, or teammates as she flew faster and faster. Eventually she caught the snitch and barely stopped in time before she crashed into one of the goal posts. She blinked rapidly as she regained her senses and let the snitch go. Her face felt flush from the wind, the embarrassment of almost crashing, and the satisfaction of actually catching the snitch.

James didn't fancy his chances of making the team; it was pretty full already, and his sister was a senior member of it, which might end up working against him even if she wasn’t the one making the decision. He walked out onto the pitch with his broom in hand and approached the captain to introduce himself. “James Cosgrove, trying out for seeker,”

Once the tryouts started, James took to the air, looking for the snitch along with anyone else trying out to be the alternate seeker. Playing seeker was a waiting game, and that made James antsy, but he scanned the skies looking for the smallest hint of gold. He eventually saw something in the corner of his eye and leaned forward on his broom to dart towards what he thought was the snitch. As he got closer, the snitch came into view, and he put more into closing the gap and reached out his hand to grab it, able to close his hand around the golden ball and bring it down to the ground to show the captain that he had been successful.

Try-outs will be closing this weekend so get in while you can! First years are able to try out if you wish.

Reyna had decided she would try-out for quidditch. She had learnt to fly when she was young and was hoping to get on to the team, at least as an alternate. Getting on the team even as that as a first year was a good thing. Reyna glanced at the captain, who seemed like a cool enough person, though reyna would've done something different with her hair. Reyna glanced at hte others trying out spotting her dormmate. She glanced back at the captain and nodded along.

"Hi, Reyna Flores, you're so pretty." she complimented the captain with a smile, making sure to sound sincere, "I'm trying out for seeker," she said with a sure tone. Reyna was trying to balance out what she thought would be the best position for her and what might get her on to the team. She knew though that being a seeker was the best position, she would decide the game, it was a lot of pressure but she could manage it, she was sure of it. Reyna got on her broom and shot up into the air. She was a little inexperienced with playing a game but a good flyer. She needed to be quicker perhaps, but it would come with time. She dodged out of the way of other players well enough, moving around the pitch with ease. She just managed to catch the snitch towards the end of the try-out and then touched back down on the ground.
