It was a new year, and she was a new person. Alexandra had one of the school brooms, having not purchased her own yet, for this was a very spontaneous decision. Her hair was short today, and she wore a pair of loose-fitting track pants along with a long sleeved shirt to the Slytherin Quidditch team try outs. Because of a flying accident in her second or third year, she had always been afraid to try out for the team. She wasn't going to let something in her past drag her down from trying something new, and something that would benefit her future as well.
Alexandra was late getting to the try out, unsure of what she was supposed to wear to it. There were already people on their brooms flying around, and Alexandra went to the Broom shed to pick out a broom. She wasn't very picky, though she had done her research in the summer at different types of brooms. It was in the back of her mind to try out for the team, so she researched the positions and read about the different positions to see what she thought she'd be good at. Alex came thought she'd be a good beater, she had incredible upper body strength and stability for someone her size, because of the football training she did all summer, and the summers before then.
She picked up a beat up looking Nimbus 2001, and one of the bats. She had the broom over her shoulder, supported by her right hand, and the bat was in her left. She walked up to Hilde, and said, "I am trying out for the Beater position." She gave a small smile, and took a few steps away. She took a deep breath as she mounted the broom. The last time she mounted a broom was near the end of last year, she went out once every fortnight to go around, so she wouldn't be scared anymore. Alexandra understood the job she wished to pursue required her to have top-notch flying skills, so her fear would have to be overcome.
The blonde looked up at the sky, the sun bright in her eyes. There was a slight breeze wooshing past year ear, and she could have sworn there was a whisper that called out, "Good luck." A shiver went down her back as she kicked off, her right hand on her broom and now her bat was supported on her shoulder. Had her hair been any longer, it would have whipped in her face, she leaned forward and jet for the sky. She took note of who was trying out for the chaser position, and who else were trying out as beaters. Next, the bludgers. They weren't that hard to find, for in that instant, one flew right by her. Okay. You got this Alex. She thought to herself as she raced towards the chaser it was headed for. She caught up to the quaffle, and reached out her arm with the bat, which was like an extention of her arm. She hit it with such a force, it went down in the opposite direction. Just as it was about to hit the ground, it raced back up, actually aimed for her, as though it were coming back with a vengeance.
Alexandra tightened her grip on the bat, and rolled her rist as it was closing in on her. She inched forward, and twisted her torso so she would have more force when she hit it. The noise upon contact almost made her go deaf, she hadn't realized how brutal the noise was to the ear. Alex could only find one of the bludgers, though this time it didn't come back to her. She flew around, crouched forward for a better aero-dynamic, and the lethal black ball caught the corner of her eye. She chased it to a chaser, and backhanded it further up into the air, until it was completely gone. Alexandra continued this a few more times, and switched hands twice to give her left arm a break. By the end of her try out, she felt accomplished, even if she weren't to make the team.
She put the borrowed broom in the broomshed, along with the beaters bat. She would only go buy the needed equipment if she made the team. As she left the quidditch pitch, she rolled her shoulders forward and backwards a few times. She was just a little winded, but felt that her try out was pretty good, and that her father was there with her.
