Fleur walked into the Great Hall and looked around. She was meant to be there with Riley but she hadn't been sure if he meant for them to meet outside or in the Great Hall. After waiting a few minutes and see some friends head down the stairs from the upper common rooms she figured she would walk in and look for him near the food figuring he might gravitate towards those areas. She had spent a few hours getting ready this year, something she hadn't ever done for a school event before. But she knew with her dress, her hair and makeup needed to be just as perfect. She loved this pink dress it was utterly her in style and color. She hoped Riley had been able to pull together a nice looking outfit to go along with her, she didn't mind if it was black and white but she thought it would be exciting if he managed to get a hold of a suit of a different color than just black. She waved towards her friend Evelyn who was with her boyfriend Noah looking like they were having a good time. Fleur had to hope that Riley would still be tall than she with the high heels she had picked, she knew he was taller but when she put on her heels she couldn't remember their height difference exactly as most of the time when they hung out in the semester they would be sitting around somewhere. Sighing she glanced around looking for the boy once again hoping he'd be there soon so she wouldn't look like a pretty loser without a date. Plus, she actually did enjoy his company and spending her time with him.

After having spent several minutes looking back at himself in the mirror, wondering if the purple suit he was wearing would be good enough for his friend as she seemed to find it important to be dressed well, Riley walked out of the Gryffindor common room and slowly made his way down to the Great Hall.

As he walked toward the tables with food and beverages, Riley grabbed a handful of candy canes and stored them away in one of his trouser pockets just in case the two would leave early and he wouldn't get the chance to get some later. He turned around to look at the dancing crowd, wondering if he would see his sister among them with that Leo guy since they seemed to be spending a lot of time together lately - perhaps he should get to know the Prefect a little better seeing how much Elizabeth cared about him. Because he and Fleur hadn't really discussed a meeting place, the boy hoped that she would come look for him here as this was usually where he could be found during school events. Just as he was about to grab himself something to drink, Riley noticed someone approaching him. His eyes widened at the realisation that it was his date to the ball in the pink dress. ''You look amazing...'' the boy told his friend, taking in the girl's appearance.

Fleur looked around noticing how some of the younger girls were wearing very interesting options and she even noticed one girl who was in a pair of dungarees (jean overalls) she couldn't believe how they were allowed to get away with such an outfit. They looked ridiculous and she hoped one of the Professors might ask them to leave as their outfits were an insult to the rest who came dressed for the occasion. Clearing her throat as one of the younger first years walked by she gave the girl a look before turning as she noticed Riley from the corner of her eye. She walked over to him with her head held high and a big smile on her face. He managed to get a purple suit! She thought it was perfect to match her pink dress, and the tux itself didn't make him look unmanly which she was going to be sure to comment. Fleur knew how some guys felt they couldn't wear girly colors as their manhood would be questioned, but she thought the deep color purple looked very nice on him. She grinned as she had been right to find him near the food table, they had spent a lot of time there during the Halloween feast so she thought he'd appear there again.

Her smile grew as she watched him turn and recognize her and look stunned by her appearance. That was exactly what she was going for. Fleur didn't view herself as a child anymore and didn't want to wear a child's dress, she stepped it up with the deep cut top and cut away front that revealed her slender legs. She thought it wasn't inappropriate in any way as she was sure older girls would be in shorter dresses then herself that night. "Thanks, I tried really hard," she said with a laugh and a wave of her hand. Fleur was sure he would know it took her awhile to put herself together but she didn't want to make him feel bad about it. She dressed up for herself, it was just how she was. "I love this color on you! You seriously look very handsome," she said as she brought her hands up and smoothed out the top of his suit brushing off a piece of fluff that had caught a ride on it. She smiled and looked up towards his face while she did noticing how close she had suddenly gotten to him. Flirting was something new to Fleur, she wasn't quite sure if she was flirting or not but she thought if she did want to flirt with anyone, Riley would be that guy right now.

Riley was glad that she liked the suit he was wearing and smiled when she said he looked handsome in it. ''Thank you,'' the Gryffindor said happily. ''I wasn't sure if I could get something that would match your dress but luckily I found this.'' He smiled again at the Slytherin as she smoothened out his jacket, nodding his head appreciatively when she wiped a piece of fluff off of it. For a moment there was a silence between them and in that silence, he felt a funny feeling in the pit of his stomach, something he hadn't felt before. The teen stared at Fleur before realising what he was doing. ''So, what do you want to do first?'' he asked, hoping that he hadn't noticed him staring at her.

Fleur smiled at her date to the ball glad she had run into Riley near the beginning of the semester. He was a really interesting guy and a nice friend to have. It helped his fact that he was really cute and had this almost awkward shyness around him. She glanced up at his face while brushing the fluff off his suit. "No, it's perfect. Thanks for going to the trouble to find something like it," she said with a big smile on her face. Riley was sweet and she was starting to wonder what it would have been like to be sorted in Gryffindor. Evelyn was quickly becoming one of her best friends as was Riley himself. "We should dance!" She said grabbing his hand and walking out to the area designated for dancing. She knew he might not want to dance but she was hoping for a few songs he would enjoy the moment before they headed off somewhere else in the castle or sat in a corner of the room. She put her arms around his neck feeling slightly nervous about doing so. Fleur wasn't really certain where they stood on their friendship, she thought he was cute and they got along but it felt weird to her whenever she saw him her heart would beat a little faster for a moment. Fleur gave him a smile hoping it would encourage him to stay on the dance floor with her for at least one song.
