Sixth Years, Lesson One

James was reaching the point where the older students he taught were all familiar having been in his younger classes, he felt much more relaxed teaching students he had already taught and over a couple of years that would become a much more regular occurrence. Hopefully they found him less rambley then he had been when he took their first fifth year class the previous year. The door to the classroom stood open inviting the students in and once they had all done so and taken their seats James waved his wand to close it.

"Welcome back to Defence Against the Dark Arts," James began. "My name is Professor James Cade, James is fine or sir if you must," It would be a hard year as all years were from fifth onward so James would attempt to make it as enjoyable for them as he could. "This year we will be covering more advanced spells, both offensive, defensive and we will be attempting to perform spells non-verbally, that will be a nice new challenge for you," He knew from teaching seventh years the previous semester that not everyone would make it through the year having mastered non-verbal spells. "Non-verbal spells are difficult, it is completely different to how you have been taught magic so far so don't be too down if you can't do it right off the bat, it will take time, patience, and practice," James rattled off the words as if it was a well practiced speech rather than something he had thought of on the spot. "If throughout the year you find yourself struggling to keep up my door is open and I will be able to help you, but for now class dismissed," James wordless waved his wand to open the classroom door and allowed the students to leave.

Assignment: RP the lesson. Attendance post for full marks.

Hinata took her seat near the middle of the classroom, watching as James-san gave an introduction for the year. It seemed that this would be quite the challenging year, especially now that they would be learning how to cast spells non-verbally. It was something that she'd never seriously thought of attempting, but she'd never actually seriously thought of being an auror before. And this seemed like an important step. She should probably start practicing those soon. And made a mental note not to mention it to Horror. Or Terror. Or Mikael. Maybe she should see how Elio felt about practicing with her. As class was dismissed, Hinata lingered for a moment just so she could follow Mikael to where Elio would be - that was just the easiest way to find the Gryffindor these days.

Theo sauntered into class and slid into the seat right beside Hinata - he figured he'd take the chance since he couldn't see Bailey yet. "Hey beautiful," he said, grinning in mischief that made the Hufflepuff blush even as she tried to resolutely pay attention to the class. Theo barely managed to stifle a groan when he heard all about the curriculum. Non-verbal spells. Ugh. He didn't think they'd be learning them so soon. Then again, maybe he'd just forgotten that NEWTs weren't really that far ahead. Still, this was going to be an annoying semester. Still, he couldn't help but wrap an arm around Hinata. "Think I can summon a date or maybe a girlfriend nonverbally?" he said which made her stammer an answer and he had to let her go because that red couldn't be healthy. Pity. Class ended far too early. "Was that it Professor?" he exclaimed as they were allowed to leave. "No adventures? No defending against the darkest of arts? Tragic," he sighed as he slumped into his seat. "Guess I'll see you next class," he told his classmate with a wink before he stood and sauntered out.

Mikael entered the classroom and headed straight for an empty seat, preferably as far away from Theodore as possible. Once the professor introduced the curriculum, Mikael raised a brow at the mention of non-verbal magic. Interesting. And finally. It was an essential skill in his opinion and would prove to be most valuable in a lot of instances. When they were dismissed, Mikael stood, contemplating beginning preparing and practicing as soon as possible. No time like the present.

The term was starting off rather slow. Horror Zhefarovich was honestly shocked that Mikael Nightray was made into a prefect. Horror thought that it was somewhat hilarious for something like that. If one ever did nothing to deserve something, it was Mikael. He did not even get the best grades. Their Head of House definitely had a sense of humor. Horror had one as well, but it was harder to get it to come to light. He no longer took every single class and for good reason. He did not care about all the subjects. He got dressed and walked out to the one that he needed to be in that morning though.

Horror walked in the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom and settled in. Professor Cade introduced himself to the sixth years in case someone was new. There was no telling nowadays. They were informed that they would have to learn advanced spells, offensive and defensive. And then the thought of having nonverbal magic intrigued him. And then they were free to go. Horror stood up and followed his peers outside.

June made her way to the classroom and found her usual spot in the front. Making herself ready for the first lesson of this year again. She didn't understood why the professor introduced himself again, but perhaps for some transfer people or something who weren't important. She couldn't wait to learn non-verbal spells, they were usefull, she believed. She ignored the annoying Gryffindor, who just didn't seem to shut up. She felt for Fraser, having such a roommate and wondered if he ever slept or still spoke. June made sure she knew how to prepare for the next lessons and left the classroom when they were dismissed.

Loki Styx returned to Hogwarts New Zealand for another term. He had what he needed for this year at least. The Ravenclaw made his way around the dorm to gather everything for the upcoming lesson ahead. He combed his fingers through his dark hair, and put on his robes so that he could leave decently. He would hate to show up to the classroom without half of his school uniform. Loki grabbed his bag and wand. He double checked the time and saw that he had a few minutes or else he would be late. Loki left the Ravenclaw towers to head to class.

Loki entered the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom and sat down in a random seat. Professor Cade was new to him. Kingsley finally left. Loki could not blame her. The sixth years would be learning advanced shield spells, and nonverbal. Since he was quiet anyway, he expected that he would excell in it. Once he heard the dismissal, he got up and left the classroom.
