Sixth Years, Lesson One

It was his first time teaching the sixth years but with a semester under his belt already they wouldn't suffer the rambling of a man teaching his first class as his fifth years had. James would be a new face for them but to him they were just another class that he was now used to staring down. The door to the classroom stood open inviting the students in and once they had all done so and taken their seats James waved his wand to close it.

"Welcome back to Defence Against the Dark Arts," James began. "My name is Professor James Cade, James is fine or sir if you must," It would be a hard year as all years were from fifth onward so James would attempt to make it as enjoyable for them as he could. "This year we will be covering more advanced spells, both offensive, defensive and we will be attempting to perform spells non-verbally, that will be a nice new challenge for you," He knew from teaching seventh years the previous semester that not everyone would make it through the year having mastered non-verbal spells. "Non-verbal spells are difficult, it is completely different to how you have been taught magic so far so don't be too down if you can't do it right off the bat, it will take time, patience, and practice," James rattled off the words as if it was a well practiced speech rather than something he had thought of on the spot. "If throughout the year you find yourself struggling to keep up my door is open and I will be able to help you, but for now class dismissed," James wordless waved his wand to open the classroom door and allowed the students to leave.

Assignment: RP the lesson. Attendance post for full marks.

Emmanuel was pretty sure what he needed to do this semester, above everything else was speak to and figure out what was going on with Kyon, it was frustrating to no end. He needed to know, needed his friend back and to deal somewhat with his own emotions towards him. The jealousy he was feeling was helping nothing and he didn’t know why that was what his mind had latched on to, because he wasn’t sure what he was jealous of. Emmanuel was getting his books and notes together, making sure he had the things that he needed for the semester ahead of him. He headed out of the dorm and to the first class.

Emmanuel walked into the defence against the dark arts classroom and took his usual spot in the room. He was curious about the professor and about what they’d cover in this semester. He nodded along with what the professor taking a few notes about the fact they’d be cover non-verbal magic and a few other things. It wasn’t a particularly long lecture but it was an interesting one for knowing what was to come. Emmanuel then packed up his things and headed out of the room.

Chaos Zhefarovich the Second was glad to have received decent enough grades to continue through to the NEWT level of courses. He knew what he needed to go where he wanted to go for the Ministry. So, it was only natural that he put forth the effort that he would need rather than do too much and burn himself out. Chaos dropped a fair bit of courses, so he did not have as much scheduled study time as before. That was a relief, if he were honest with himself. For now, he checked his schedule for the day, and saw that it was near time for class. He gathered his belongings and headed out the Gryffindor house to go to class. He was not one to waste time.

Chaos entered the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom, he felt a surge of anticipation. Taking his seat among his fellow sixth years, Chaos listened intently as Professor Cade introduced himself and outlined the curriculum for the year. The mention of non-verbal spells caught Chaos's attention immediately. He had dabbled with them before but knew mastering them would be a whole new level of magical skill. This year promised to be challenging, but he was determined to excel, especially in mastering non-verbal spells. With that, Chaos left the classroom, feeling optimistic about the year and confident in his abilities to meet the challenges that Professor Cade had laid out.
