Sixth Years: Lesson Five

Angel was starting to grow restless with classes in the greenhouse again and was relieved when he got the okay to take his students on a bit of a jailbreak this afternoon. They were smart kids, so hopefully everything would go smoothly and no students would get lost or eaten. Burying any concerns under a layer of bravado, Angel greeted everyone cheerily once it looked like they were settled.

Alright, we’re going on a little adventure today. Everyone knows any herbologist worth their salt is just as good at identifying plants as they are at caring for them, so we’re going on a little field trip to work on your eye.” With a flick of his wand, Angel summon the bingo cards he’d put together earlier. “Everyone come grab a bingo card and then join me over here by the portkey. We’re heading out to the Aotearoa Wildlife Sanctuary in a minute when you’re ready.

Once everyone was ready, Angel counted them down before the class grabbed the portkey, shaking his head to regain his bearings once they’d arrived at the Sanctuary. Portkey was by far one of his least favorite ways to travel. “Okay, I’m setting you loose now, so please be smart about this. Good rule of thumb; Don’t know what it is? Don’t touch it.

Angel checked his pocket watch, doing some quick math in his head. None of his students should have classes after this, but he didn’t want anyone to miss dinner. “Alright, off you go. Get bingo and I’ll give you some house points, fill your card and you get a few more. If you’re not back in an hour we’re leaving without you, so don’t go too far, chop chop,” he said, clapping his hands. He trusted his sixth years to behave themselves. And he wouldn’t really leave them behind. Probably.

Lucy came to the class, a little curious what the next plant to study would be. She was surprised to find they'd be going on a field trip. That was a good change of pace for Lucy, so she was enthusiastic as the professor explained what they'd be doing. Lucy wasn't the best at identifying plants but she'd give it a go, taking the bingo card and then touching the portkey. Lucy explored, trying to figure out what plant was which. Lucy managed to find six plants in total, managing to get two bingos, much to her delight. When it was time to head back, Lucy felt she'd had a good time. Coming back to the hogwarts grounds, she thanked the professor and left.

Teddy had quite enjoyed all the dangerous plants they had studied this semester and was excited to head that they were going on a field trip today. They hardly ever got to go on field trips anymore, they mostly seemed to happen in the lower years. Once they arrived, Teddy grabbed a bingo card and set off to identify plants. Some were easy to identify, some were educated guesses, and many Teddy saw, he didn't recognise at all. By the end of the hour, Teddy had almost completed his bingo card and returned it to Professor Castillo before taking the portkey back to the castle.

Field trips seemed to be something that only happened in care of magical creatures, so Veronica was pleasantly surprised to find out they’d be going on one in Herbology. She had enjoyed the discussions on dangerous plants but was excited to have the chance to actually do something. With her bingo card in hand, Veronica arrived at the wildlife sanctuary. Veronica set off to start filling out her card. Once time was up, she headed back to the portkey and travelled back to school.

Dominic was sad that the semester was coming to an end soon, but he still had a couple of more weeks to go before the exams, so he was simply going to make the most of his time. With a sigh, the Hufflepuff just packed his belongings into his backpack and headed to his Herbology class. He entered the Herbology greenhouse classroom and listened as the professor announced that they were going on a field trip. The Hufflepuff placed his hand on the portkey and felt himself being taken away. They landed in a beautiful Wildlife Sanctuary where they were told to play a game of Bingo as they looked around for all of the different plants. Dominic thoroughly enjoyed this however felt the professor didn't allow them with much time, especially as he also wanted to have a look at the creatures as well. The Hufflepuff still had a couple of things left on his bingo list, however he headed back to the castle and to his next class when dismissed.
