Sixth Years, Lesson Five

James couldn’t believe how quickly the semester was going, they soon found themselves in the penultimate week of classes, the students he was about to see would only have the normal end of year exams but his other classes would have to sit their O.W.Ls and N.E.W.Ts. He almost felt as nervous as they did, he might have only taught them for a single semester but he felt like their results would be a reflection of him. Rightly, or wrongly.

The sixth year students made their way into the classroom and once they had taken their seats James waved his hand with a flick of his wrist and the door closed with a soft thud. “Welcome back. I hope you’re all well rested because we’ll not be wasting any time today, wands at the ready and I do hope you all practiced,” James raised his wand above his head with a flourish and the desks were moved to the edges of the classroom, reasonably gently as not to disturb anything left on them.

“Pair up, you’ve all been here long enough to know how this works, one of you will use a shielding charm, the other will attempt to stun, I don’t want to hear any incantations from any of you,” James looked around the room, he looked for nervous faces as they would be the ones he kept an eye on. “Remember, you need clear minds to cast a non-verbal spell, leave everything else at the classroom door and we can begin,”

James set them off to work, he moved through the classroom keeping an eye on any student he had pegged as looking nervous and casting a quick glance on the students he had expected to do well. Overall, he wasn’t terribly disappointed which was a positive feeling. As he drew the class to an end he felt proud of his students efforts, some of them had work to do it was true, but they had all come so far and that was worth celebrating.

“You’ve done well today, you should be proud of your efforts, there’s no homework for tonight but I do encourage you to go away and continue to practice non-verbal magic with the basic Lumos and Nox,” His lips split into an uncontrollable grin as he said the names of the spells. “Sorry, my twin boys are named Lumos and Nox so that was quite amusing to me, anyway class dismissed,”

RP the lesson. If students wish to practice non-verbal spells outside of lessons feel free to link me to threads doing so for extra credit. Simple spells only, any boneheaded attempts will result in point deductions and detentions.

Hina stood near the edge of the classroom, wand in hand. So far, Defense Against the Dark Arts had been fun. Nonverbal spells however was going to be quite the challenge. She had been practicing, but her success rate wasn't up to where she would like it to be. She decided to walk up to @Bailey Walden-Cade hoping she'd be up to practicing together. They could take turns with the stunning spell and shield charm. It had turned out to be interesting and frustrating at the same time because Hina could barely get either spell to work half the time. So when Bailey would be successful with her stunning spells, Hina would have to tumble and bend and dodge every so which way. She definitely needed more practice but at least that had been fun.

Bailey rolled her eyes as her dad made reference to her younger brothers, whatever possessed her parents to name their children after spells was beyond her, especially considering all the other Cade children had pretty normal names. Dad didn’t waste much time with introductions and they were straight into practicing non verbal spells. She paired up with @Hinata Edogawa and they spent the rest of the lesson practicing.

Theodore made the unfortunate mistake of pairing up with Mikael for this class. But at least he didn't forget to ask the professor, "So does your wand light up and turn off when you call them?" And even demonstrated doing Lumos and Nox on his wand verbally.

Horror Zhefarovich was laying down in his bed as he stared up at the ceiling. He had just so much time before he would have to go to class, and honestly, he was not up to it. Alas, he had his divinity and integrity. He needed to keep his grades up to par, which he thought that he received better grades than his older twin brother. He was glad that he got the whole Quidditch captain position over his twin, just to rub salt in wounds, but he did not have that much interest in Quidditch itself. His interests were a little darker and not exactly in the curriculum of the school. Yet, he still got up, and left to head to the next lesson begrudgingly.

Horror walked in the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom and sat down in his seat. Professor Cade started the lesson with how they would be jumping right into the nonverbal Protego and Stupefy. They did not need to bother with instructions and directions. They were sixth years and by now, knew what they needed to do. He paired up with @Mikael Nightray for this lesson. After all, the two were good allies, so might as well. He thought that he had done quite well by the end of the class. He succeeded with both Protego and Stupefy.

The blonde made her way to the classroom and found her usual spot in the front. She knew what the lesson would bring and couldn't wait to get on with it. The stunning spell sounded so childish as they had learned it long before, but nonverbal magic was an different approch ofcourse so she paired up with an student and wanted to try first to do an nonverbal spell of stupefy. The blonde did as she was supposed to do and focused on what she wanted, concentrated on the spell without saying it. But picturing in her mind what needed to happen. And it was fun looking like that to someone, picturing them getting stunned and out of her wand. She managed to do so quickly and than changed positions and casted an shielding charm back. After a few times until the lesson was over they practiced. The blonde frowned, what an strange names for someone nox and lumos. That were the most stupid names the blonde thought and was glad her parents hadn't named her like something. She left the room once the lesson was over.

The time to head home was getting closer and Loki Styx was counting the days until Theodore Nightray would leave the school. There were not enough words in a thesaurus for him to describe how much he hated the lad. He just hoped that his sister would see someone else and not that idiot. Loki shook his head as he thought about dragging her back here to finish her schooling just to avoid that tragedy of a Nightray. He grabbed his bag and left the dorm to head to his scheduled class. Maybe a silencio would work if the Gryffindor opened his mouth.

Loki walked in the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom and sat down in his seat. Rather than deal with a lecture, they were ordered to get up and work on the nonverbal casting. He thought that he had practiced enough lately but more could not hurt. He paired up with another student and practiced his nonverbal technique. He thought that he had done well, since it didn't take him much time for success. He left once he knew that he, and his partner, were good to go.

Mikael had absolutely no intention of partnering with Theodore for such a class. Which is why when Theodore tried to come partner up with him he sent a stunner towards his cousin without warning. When Theodore was not barging in on the practice, he was practicing nonverbal casting with Horror Zhefarovich who was a lot less migraine-inducing.
