Sixth Years: Lesson 3

Professor Killian Borisyuk was standing up this time as the sixth years walked into the classroom. He had a lot to go over with a war that happened almost a century ago, but it was devastating and such. It had a lot of repercussions and such, especially when it came down to other species. It was mainly set by one man's ambitions that were a bit too large because he wanted to be different. It might have been easier to just deal with him when he was a kid, but that was impossible now. Killian glanced down as the sixth years walked into the classroom and settled down. Killian didn't start the lesson with telling them to take notes. If they wanted to try to remember this off hand, then by all means. "Good afternoon. We are going to be talking about the First Wizarding War. Last lesson, I ended with the start of the Death Eaters, and Voldemort's beginning."

Killian walked over to his chair, and put his hands on the back of it as he used it almost like a prop. The Russian started the lecture, "As you recall, Voldemort spent time gathering followers and going into the Dark Arts after he graduated. He did not start open warfare until 1970. Before this, he had managed to gather people such as Fenrir Greyback who was a nefarious werewolf, Inferi, and killed countless muggles while working in the shadows. He didn't openly announce himself until 1970. He proclaimed himself as the Dark Lord, and started to commit acts of terrorism in Britain. He had gathered an army of dark wizards and dark creatures. He had the intention to overthrow the British Ministry of Magic to create a world run by pure-bloods, with Muggle-borns either eradicated or kept underground. Interestingly enough because without a Muggle father, he never would have been born but I digress."

He was just glad that he never had to live through that era because beings like him would have likely been pressured on either side to join the war.
"His army wasn't just dark wizards and creatures, but also giants. Death Eaters, creatures, and giants all began stirring chaos and openly attacking Muggles for no reason whatsoever. Having to clean this up was finally catching the attention of the Ministry, but the Death Eaters only increased their attacks, targeting Muggle-borns and blood traitors that did not support their cause. They were not the only victims as a family of goblins were killed, as were house-elves. The Dark Mark, which was a skull with a snake protuding from its mouth would be cast in the sky anytime a murder was committed under the Dark Lord's name to inspire even more fear among the wizarding society, and it worked. Death Eaters expanded their network and infiltrated the Ministry itself, either using blackmail or even the Imperius Curse. Due to Voldemort's power and ruthlessness with killing hundreds of wizards, he earned the most powerful Dark wizard of all time, surpassing Grindelwald."

Killian paused so that he could sit down on his chair, and leaned forward as he put his hands together. "Naturally, the response to this huge threat was to form an organization called the Order of the Phoenix, founded in 1971. Albus Dumbledore created it himself, and took the fight directly to the Death Eaters. At first, they seemed to be more of a renegade group in the Ministry's eyes but famous Aurors joined them in order to take secret assaults to the dark forces. Dumbledore utilized the group and even those in the black market to invent the method of delivering messages using the Patronus charm. Despite the Order of the Phoenix's efforts, Voldemort's power and reach continued to grow." Killian gave a small motion of his hand. "The Order of the Phoenix even suffered casualties from Voldemort. Before too long, Voldemort's name became so fearful that the populace referred to him by He Who Must Not Be Named, or You Know Who, within the first year. The effects of the war were so critical that family and friends could not trust each other due to either being Voldemort's followers, or being one of the many innocent victims under the Imperius Curse."

The part-giant moved so that he could put his arms behind his head to relax a little more into the lecture. "Throughout the war, several Ministers of Magic ended up leaving because they could not end the war. Yet, even though the war raged, Hogwarts remained safe and untouched by Death Eaters. And there was a man in the Ministry, Bartemius, or Barty, Crouch Senior that was rising in the ranks. However, we will pause this for now and continue on with the next lesson, when we start seeing the tide start to turn." Killian would get into the next bit the following week since it was enough for the day. He thought about whether or not to assign homework. He swiftly decided not to. "I'll let you go without homework. Class dismissed." Killian snapped his fingers and the door opened to let the sixth years out.
Assignment: RP the lesson.

Callie walked into the history classroom and took her usual spot in the room. She took out her notes and books and placed them down in front of her as the professor got started on what it was they would be covering within this lesson. She took her quill and began writing down what the professor began telling them about the first wizarding war, making sure that she got the information down about the various parts of it, trying to be sure that she missed nothing from it. Making sure that she had all of the names and dates that the professor was giving them. The lesson was long and informative, and she was so curious as to the end of the tale. Eventually the lesson came to an end and Callie packed up her things and then headed out of the room.

Enoch walked into the history of magic classroom and took his usual spot in the room. He was looking to the front of the room as the professor got started. He pulled his notes and books in front of him and began writing down the occasion thing from what the professor was saying, making sure that he didn’t miss the important things, but he was familiar with the stories of the war, his family had been magical a while. Enoch was enjoying the lecture to a degree but it did go on far long than he’d expected it would and by the end they still hadn’t finished. He rolled his eyes and then just packed up his things and left the room when he could.

Teddy was fully aware that History of Magic was more a lesson in keeping up with Professor Borisyuk than actually remembering what he was talking about. Teddy spent the lesson furiously writing down everything he said, he'd then read the notes over later to remember it. By the end of the lesson his wrist ached and he stretched out to ease the pain. Glad there was no homework, Teddy packed up his belongings and thanked Professor Borisyuk on his way out.
