Sixth Years: Lesson 3

Professor Killian Borisyuk was standing up this time as the sixth years walked into the classroom. He had a lot to go over with a war that happened almost a century ago, but it was devastating and such. It had a lot of repercussions and such, especially when it came down to other species. It was mainly set by one man's ambitions that were a bit too large because he wanted to be different. It might have been easier to just deal with him when he was a kid, but that was impossible now. Killian glanced down as the sixth years walked into the classroom and settled down. Killian didn't start the lesson with telling them to take notes. If they wanted to try to remember this off hand, then by all means. "Good afternoon. We are going to be talking about the First Wizarding War. Last lesson, I ended with the start of the Death Eaters, and Voldemort's beginning."

Killian walked over to his chair, and put his hands on the back of it as he used it almost like a prop. The Russian started the lecture, "As you recall, Voldemort spent time gathering followers and going into the Dark Arts after he graduated. He did not start open warfare until 1970. Before this, he had managed to gather people such as Fenrir Greyback who was a nefarious werewolf, Inferi, and killed countless muggles while working in the shadows. He didn't openly announce himself until 1970. He proclaimed himself as the Dark Lord, and started to commit acts of terrorism in Britain. He had gathered an army of dark wizards and dark creatures. He had the intention to overthrow the British Ministry of Magic to create a world run by pure-bloods, with Muggle-borns either eradicated or kept underground. Interestingly enough because without a Muggle father, he never would have been born but I digress."

He was just glad that he never had to live through that era because beings like him would have likely been pressured on either side to join the war.
"His army wasn't just dark wizards and creatures, but also giants. Death Eaters, creatures, and giants all began stirring chaos and openly attacking Muggles for no reason whatsoever. Having to clean this up was finally catching the attention of the Ministry, but the Death Eaters only increased their attacks, targeting Muggle-borns and blood traitors that did not support their cause. They were not the only victims as a family of goblins were killed, as were house-elves. The Dark Mark, which was a skull with a snake protuding from its mouth would be cast in the sky anytime a murder was committed under the Dark Lord's name to inspire even more fear among the wizarding society, and it worked. Death Eaters expanded their network and infiltrated the Ministry itself, either using blackmail or even the Imperius Curse. Due to Voldemort's power and ruthlessness with killing hundreds of wizards, he earned the most powerful Dark wizard of all time, surpassing Grindelwald."

Killian paused so that he could sit down on his chair, and leaned forward as he put his hands together. "Naturally, the response to this huge threat was to form an organization called the Order of the Phoenix, founded in 1971. Albus Dumbledore created it himself, and took the fight directly to the Death Eaters. At first, they seemed to be more of a renegade group in the Ministry's eyes but famous Aurors joined them in order to take secret assaults to the dark forces. Dumbledore utilized the group and even those in the black market to invent the method of delivering messages using the Patronus charm. Despite the Order of the Phoenix's efforts, Voldemort's power and reach continued to grow." Killian gave a small motion of his hand. "The Order of the Phoenix even suffered casualties from Voldemort. Before too long, Voldemort's name became so fearful that the populace referred to him by He Who Must Not Be Named, or You Know Who, within the first year. The effects of the war were so critical that family and friends could not trust each other due to either being Voldemort's followers, or being one of the many innocent victims under the Imperius Curse."

The part-giant moved so that he could put his arms behind his head to relax a little more into the lecture. "Throughout the war, several Ministers of Magic ended up leaving because they could not end the war. Yet, even though the war raged, Hogwarts remained safe and untouched by Death Eaters. And there was a man in the Ministry, Bartemius, or Barty, Crouch Senior that was rising in the ranks. However, we will pause this for now and continue on with the next lesson, when we start seeing the tide start to turn." Killian would get into the next bit the following week since it was enough for the day. He thought about whether or not to assign homework. He swiftly decided not to. "I'll let you go without homework. Class dismissed." Killian snapped his fingers and the door opened to let the sixth years out.
Assignment: RP the lesson.

June made her way to the classroom and found her usual spot in the front, and took her belongings out of it. She figured it was gonna be an lecture again, which she prefered and took out her parchment and quill to take notes. She hoped at least that annoying gryffindor would shut his mouth for one time. Or that otherwise the professor would drag him out of the classroom, that would be funny.

The professor told them the subject of today was the first wizarding war. That was something the blonde had read about before and seemed like an interesting topic to learn more about. It started about Voldemort again obviously and June made sure to write down the dates the professor gave, since she figured that seemed important stuff. Inferi was something what seemed disgusting, which she had seen a picture of before in a book. The part the professor added about lord voldemorts muggle father was an good point, but lord voldemort was blinded it seemed by his own thoughts and believes. June couldn't imagine facing an giant in a fight. But they were stupid too, so ofcourse we all knew how the story had ended and lord voldemort lost. The order of the phoenix was also called out by the professor and June made some notes. The order was created by Albus Dumbledore and they were the ones to fight the death eathers and the dark lord, it was good against bad. But to June what was bad and good was an thin line and for everyone that was different she thought. Her fathers actions were called out to be bad, but to June it was not. June really was paying good attention and the lesson went very quick. There was so much interesting stuff to go through. And June couldn't wait for more. She took her belongings when the lesson was ending and left the room.

Hinata entered the History of Magic classroom quietly, still intimidated but amazed by Professor Borisyuk. Or well, he was amazed by just how unfazed Theodore was in this school. She took her usual seat and brought out her notes. The mention of the First Wizarding War immediately captured Hinata's attention. She knew quite a bit about it but since it was hardly covered in Japan, she just knew most of what the History books she would read had. Not that she read much of those. Still, the professor’s detailed description of Voldemort’s rise to power and the atrocities committed by his followers painted an ugly picture. As Professor Borisyuk spoke about the Dark Mark and the terror it inspired, Hinata felt a chill run down her spine. The formation of the Order of the Phoenix was perhaps admirable as they had been capable of opposing such evil during those times. The professor speaking of trust lost among families and friends was a weight that she didn't even know could be that heavy. She could not imagine not being able to trust her siblings, her cousins, or even her friends. It made her sick to wonder how her own family would have fared in such a war. It just made her all the more determined to ensure that such a thing never comes to pass.
