It was late in the evening, Laura has just exited the great hall and was making her way to the courtyard for some fresh air, she hadn't eaten much lately, the stress from doing well in school had made it hard for her to think of much else, making something as simple as taking care of herself a hard feat to continue. It hadn't done much damage to the Ravenclaw, she did eat, but only enough so her peers wouldn't get worried. There weren't any noticeable physical changes either, so all in all, there was no way of telling that Laura Montiez wasn't eating properly. It wasn't so much a problem for the girl, it was just something she had grown to overlook over the past year. Laura hadn't made any friends at her time attending Hogwarts New Zealand, so she couldn't vent to anybody about her woes, so she had filled her time with studying, in the possibility that it would give her some sort of achievement that would give her an excuse for not socialising normally like some of her fellow students.

Laura sat on a stone bench that was placed underneath a tree, filling all her time with school was a decent distraction from her loneliness, but sometimes, it was too hard to ignore it. Laura rested her head in her hands, the night sky was clear and the stars were radiating a beautiful light, something like that would have usually captured Laura's attention, but now all she could think about was how she had nobody to talk to. Laura sighed as the cool night air and the distant sound of student's chatting inside the castle started to fade away slightly, Laura assumed they were on their way to their dorms too work on homework, hang with their friends or sleep. Laura couldn't do any of that, she was far enough ahead of school already, even trying to study more would be pointless.

Madlyn definitively felt defeated tonight. The long hours of school was catching up in just the first week back and she already wanted another week of break to come. It was so unfair and what made it horribly impossible to delay was her dad being around. Jackson never been the anal type, he lead off to be mellow and settle. He wasn't at all like that always either. She hadn't an idea why she felt so obligated to do better in school. Maybe she was a teacher's pet, or perhaps it was just Jackson being around that strive her to do better. I don't know and I don't care about this crap right now, she sighed.

Madlyn made her way outside, she been in the green house where her father basically had his office station at. A long talk and a cup of hot chocolate been a good stress releaver with her dad, but as she walk back the dirt path back to the castle, she could feel the weight of her work load pile up mentally to her thoughts. "Please not right now" she mumble. She did a right U turn, where her path lead not to the steps but the courtyard. She drew closer in steps, on one of the benches she saw a girl young but older looking like herself sat quietly alone. The girl look sad, kinda she suppose she did look lonely sitting. Madlyn sat in the bench besides her, they weren't to close but not that far from each other.

Sorry it sucks >_< I am not focus at the moment !

In truth, Laura didn't really have many problems, she was a normal witch, she excelled in school and usually thought herself to be reasonably happy. It was on a few rare occasions when the Ravenclaw's ever growing stress would become all too much to handle, leaving her in a state like the one she was in that night. Laura had never been a self-conscious or shy person, but she did think it was embarrassing to be seen as vulnerable in public, it might give a few other students the opportunity to make fun of her. This was without a doubt an experience Laura never wanted to take part in. However, the possibility of returning to the safety of her dorm room was destroyed when somebody sat on the other end of the stone bench. Laura Montiez sat up quickly, trying to hide the fact that she had been freaking out just moments before. "Oh, Hi." Said the young witch, only managing to show a small smile, she wasn't going to abolish her manners all because she had been caught off guard. The other girl looked equitably kind, a feeling of relief washed over the girl, she was glad it wasn't a Slytherin who had found her.

Neither :r URGH.

Madlyn pulled her robes down, exposing her sleeveless top. She desire wind right now and as she sat, she felt the breeze tease the surface of her olive tone flesh. It's so not right. She wanted to moan and complain, however her neighbor suddenly grew aware of her presents. The Ravenclaw girl gave out the impression she had been away in her thoughts. "I'm sorry if I sacred you, didn't want to go in too early". Truth is, she were trying to avoid from falling asleep. Madlyn would occasionally fall asleep from doing her assignments, there be a chance that would happen tonight. But the girl stayed fighting her sleep, she shot her brown eyes open to daze out to the night air. It sang of cricket melody and lurking shadow. The clouds swirl with the midnight blue and hid away part of the grey lonesome moon.

The Ravenclaw ran her hand through her long brown hair, as she stared at the other student. Laura couldn't tell exactly because of the dim moonlight, but it looked like the girl was in Gryffindor, judging by her robes. Laura hadn't really talked to anybody in Gryffindor before, she had been in lessons with Gryffindors, but she had never made the effort to converse with any of them. Then why should she change that? Laura had been vulnerable, and was obviously showing a hell of a lot of emotion, she hadn't been able to vent, she hadn't seen Robbie lately, and it had all built up, but she wasn't going to explain this to somebody she didn't know at all. "Um, that's okay. I'm Laura." Said the Ravenclaw, moving her gaze from the other student and onto the ground, it had rained earlier in the day, causing the dirt to turn to mud, which was now all over Laura's shoes. It was a tad unusual she didn't notice it until that moment, it would have been imprinted in Laura's mind much earlier if it weren't for her stress.

"Madlyn" though it was dark because the moon hid away from the night clouds, Madlyn smile. She like the girl already, mainly cause she did not care about her height. Or perhaps she did not look closely enough at her neighbor. Like stated, it was too dark to tell. She spill a yawn from her mouth and her eye lids tease her pupils. "Are you, ah waiting for someone?" she drop her eyes at the girl staring at the muddy ground. She took notice of it now and realize her shoes toes had splatter into the mud. Tired, she did not show any sign to care. Madlyn's never fuss about getting dirty. She use to skateboard all the times, her shoes get destroyed all the time before. Sad she didn't board anymore.

If the Ravenclaw didn't know any better, she would say that Madlyn was awkward and annoying, but she did know better, she was a Ravenclaw after all and she thought the total opposite of Madlyn, she thought her fellow student was kind and thoughtful, especially since Madlyn wasn't being rude to her because of how she was acting. Laura thought that she had been acting quite dazed and ignorant that night, which did have obvious truth because there were obvious things Laura hadn't noticed about Madlyn, like her height, this was partly because of the lack of light, and the fact that she just wasn't paying much attention to anything. "No, I was just, reflecting on my thoughts and stuff." Said the teen, keeping her gaze away from Madlyn, it felt right for her to keep a form of distance from the other girl. "Do you know what I mean?" Laura asked after a minute or two of silence between the teenagers.

Madlyn lifted her shoulder and shrug. "Kinda" besides her brief relationship with her ex friend Joe, she hardly ever kept anything to herself. She always, and meaning always had to share with someone how she felt about something. And most of the time it was Briar, her adopted sister who took the burden. Briar didn't seem to mind her small dilemma, for whenever it was vice versa, Madlyn didn't mind listening on to someone else. "I maybe a stranger and probably the worst person to come to with anything, but if there's like anything you want to say and need an ear to listen to, I'm here" and she meant it. From a normal teenager point of view, Madlyn practically live the experience through someone else eyes sometimes. She didn't mind it, cause she got that much in return. Same goes for a certain muggel studies professors, everything from his eyes she saw different. Thanks to him she knew a bit more about muggels than she did before, thanks to him she was okay being who she was.

It was nice to hear that she could talk to somebody, however Laura didn't think about taking that offer into consideration at all. She might have, if she had known Madlyn, but this wasn't the case, they had only just introduced themselves, even thinking about venting her problems on somebody who might have a hell of a lot more to deal with was something the Ravenclaw did not think was right. The thought was kind, and brought a smile to Laura's lips, but she wasn't going to accept Madlyn's offer, not yet anyway. "Um, that's nice, and I know you mean well, but I don't know you." Said the teen, while moving her gaze back to Madlyn, her last statement did not mean attempting to get to know he fellow student was a bad thing, and it surely didn't mean she wasn't going to try, she just simply wasn't going to talk about something so personal to somebody who had just learnt her name. Maybe Madlyn would pick up on that, Laura was quietly hoping she would. "It's a lovely night tonight, don't you think?" Laura asked, undoubtedly changing the subject to something a bit milder than before. Although it was a beautiful night, the stars seemed to be sparking even more than a few moments earlier, something that made the Ravenclaw raise an eyebrow, it was awfully curious.

She had a valid point, maybe Briar's ways of helping others were finally rubbing on Madlyn. She didn't like it much, well she wasn't completely mean spirited type of person. It's natural for her to consider someone else besides herself whenever she was with her tribal family back in Dakota. She suppose some of their ways were adding on as well. "It's cool, it's just don't get me wrong....you look like sh!t" those words blurted out. She couldn't take back what's been said, yet it was the honest truth. The girl had no intention saying anything else, so Madlyn squash the subject too. "Yeah it's nice" nice to sleep. She drag herself down to the ground and sat on the gravel ground before her. Split second there she remember the mud beneath her, when she went to lift a leg, she was spared. The mud was besides her not beneath her. She crock her neck back and watch the skies. The smell of the ocean rolled right on their way. She exhaled, the alluring scent made her sleepy some more.

The Ravenclaw let out a laugh at Madlyn's comment, it was refreshing for the teenager to finally laugh, even if it was as short lived as it had been. Laura had grown used to laughing at herself, it made way for others not to laugh at her, most of the time, but at other times it wasn't so virtuous. "I know, it's not like I'm trying to impress anybody though." She said, it was honest, she didn't feel any need to impress anybody else, the wizard was fine the way she was, and she hadn't seen Robbie in a while, so all in all, it didn't matter to her how she looked. It was dark anyway, Laura couldn't see properly, so maybe the other student's comment was brought on by the lack of light in the courtyard. Making small talk with Madlyn was getting old pretty quick, and the adolescent needed to do something to keep herself, and probably Madlyn entertained to an extent, otherwise the two will most likely part ways soon and have a few awkward meetings in the corridors around school, which Laura didn't want, the witch hated awkward situations. "Madlyn." The Ravenclaw said, just another unfinished sentence that exited her lips which lead up to her next blunt question, "Are you part giant?" Asked the brunette, as Madlyn moved to the ground, she noticed how tall Madlyn really was, her initial assumption was she was part giant, and being blunt about it was sure fire way to get a proper answer.

Madlyn laughed with Laura. She wasn't expecting to get a laugh, she was expecting to get another girl who didn't know what humor is, well you know the rest. Laura was no barbie thank god for that, that's the last thing she needed was to be breaking a spine from the Ravencalw girl. "Hey it got you laughing, forget the rest" she chuckle as she wrap her longs arms around her torso. She stretch into her own embrace and let out a sigh. The next thing coming out of the girl's mouth, Made Madlyn holler. Literally, she slap her chest and laugh. "Your like five minutes late with your vision Laura, yeah I'm part giant. Been like this since first year. Where you've been hiding?" everyone knew about her from the start. It's nothing she could disappear from, and besides that she has a dad who work here too. How can she miss the likes of her?

The darkness that was subsequently plaguing the courtyard and the lack of moonlight, or any light at all for that matter was the reason Laura had not been able to contemplate Madlyn being so tall, it was quite ironic how long it had taken for the Ravenclaw to notice such an obvious trait of the other girl, Laura undoubtedly looked considerably more ill-advised than her usual intelligent exterior. During the years Laura had been learning to use magic properly at Hogwarts New Zealand she had spent most of her time studying in the library and doing school assignments, so it was not a shock to the teen when she hadn't heard anything about Madlyn before that night. "I've been studying." Said the Ravenclaw while she shrugged casually in Madlyn's direction. Recently, Laura had found it hard to focus on anything but school, her world had been taken over with it, she needed to be perfect and getting perfect grades was one thing she felt she needed to do. Madlyn might not understand any of it, if Laura ended up telling her fellow student about how stressful and daunting everything had been for her lately. That was if she ended up making friends with the other girl, which didn't seem like a remote task, Madlyn seemed like a nice person and being around her hadn't done Laura any harm so far, so continuing talking to her was a decently made decision on Laura's part.

Madlyn smile at the girl, she knew very well how much the school life can take over. When someone actually cared about their schooling that is, she can very much relate too. "Hmmm, sounds like my life" she carried her stares away from Laura and back to the night skies once more. She was engulf completely into the atmosphere, so comfortable and fairly moving. Madlyn hadn't said anything else in the passing minutes, nothing leak from her thoughts. But the awkward silence out lived the funny moment they just shared with each other. "So...?" this was the best she could came up with.

It was rather amusing for the Ravenclaw, how the mood of her conversation with Madlyn changed from the two of them sharing a laugh to practically silence, it was a nice change for Laura, to spend some time laughing, no matter how short lived the laughter had been. She could already feel her spirit coming back, it brought the remains of a genuine smile to Laura's lips, which would have lasted longer if her pessimistic thoughts hadn't have crept back into her mind, making the Ravenclaw think negatively again. It was a short moment of relaxation in which Laura had taken part in, it was just unfortunate it had to linger a short moment. "So, yeah." Laura said, unable to think of another topic of conversation to dwell on with her fellow witch. This left the Ravenclaw sitting on the same bench, and in the same spot she had been before Madlyn approached her. "Do you think we should head to our dorms now?" Laura asked, being the rule keeper she was, the brunette did not want to lose house points or gain a possible detention for staying out too late. Madlyn might not have been the kind of person to conform to school rules like Laura was, however she had no real idea of what Madlyn was like, but her curiosity to know and learn about everything and anything kept Laura on the bench until Madlyn answered her question.

Madlyn cock her head back, staring almost at the brunette. She think almost, cause she didn't like all time when someone stared at her too. "If you want to, you can"she shrug. More shrugging tonight, and she'll have to explain her abnormal tick. "I hate in there, it's too stuffy and my idiot of a roommate passes to much gas" she shared room with Briar her adopted sister too. Thankfully Briar didn't have odor gas problem. Seriously, how can you be that disgusting? She all for natural, but stench of any essence made her vomit. "Your not like one of those goody two shoe are you?" she asked, a smirk rolling at the end of her cherry lips. She shouldn't be talking, she was label teacher's pet for Christ sake.

The fatigue from Laura's seemingly endless day was starting to set in, the brunette could feel her eyes grow heavier, begging for an ounce of sleep. Maybe she would finally get the chance to have a nice long sleep, which would make for perfect timing, as exhaustion was the last thing the Ravenclaw wanted. There was no doubt in Laura's mind that her parents would worry if she was sent to the hospital wing for exhaustion. Her parents would worry but they would also expect more of her when she recovered, so a long sleep was something Laura wasn't going to pass up. "Ew, that must be so gross." Said the Ravenclaw, scrunching up her face in mock disgust. Luckily, she didn't have to deal with anything like that; her roommates kept their distance from her, and Laura kept to herself, it was a good balance to have. The brunette found herself staring at her muddy shoes again, she would be sure to clean all the mud off when she returned to her dorm, it wasn't acceptable to have dirty shoes around school in her opinion. "Goody two shoes? Um, I don't know." Said Laura, managing a quick chuckle, at the irony of what Madlyn had just said.

"Yeah it is" she crinkle her nose, her eyes kept going from and to Laura. It's habit ya know, having to look at someone when talking. Or just command sense. "And it's only four of us, so I'm like whatever. I deal" she hung her shoulders low, they drop at instant when relaxing. She still spoke with her hands often, it's like how you kept a conversation flowing. "Great, than I don't have to worry about getting caught tonight. My dad works here" she spoke nonchalant, as if it where that easy to avoid. This man the tallest thing in this school, and she being the second spotting her be like a laser target beam. "Where you from? You have an accent not like the natives here.." she detected no kiwi accent. Hers was sort of American, except slower and settle than the white breads in America. Code word for caucasian, Madlyn not being one settle for her Native Indian speech.

Laura nodded as Madlyn spoke, it was a habit of the brunette's, to nod as she was listening to somebody, her parents had told her it was a way to show respect for another, and Laura being the obedient twin, followed that belief, and now had become second nature to the teen. Much like many other things that Laura didn't notice she was or wasn't doing anymore, like speaking with an accent, she assumed nobody would notice it anymore, as nobody asked about it. So it was a slight shock to the Ravenclaw when Madlyn asked about her accent. "I was born in Argentina and moved to live in San Diego." Was her reply, it was abrupt, it may have sounded rather rude too, but in all honesty, Laura didn't know how to react to the question as she hadn't been asked it in such a long time. Even so, the teenager managed a quick save to the conversation, just in case she may have offended her fellow witch. Laura sighed before rubbing her eye and asking "What about you?" a short and simple question to fill in a few moments of silence. That was if she needed to fill some silence, the Ravenclaw did want to know about Madlyn's cultural background in a way, it could show some similarity between the two students, even though they already had one big thing in common, magical blood.

Madlyn listen. She rested her head right at her knees, as she sorted them together and bend them right in front of her. "No it's not Spanish" she shook her head, but Laura had said San Diego. "Oh yeah. American accent" she too was from America, but her accent sounded a mix of the Irish and of course a very slow settle ones that most native American had. "I'm from North Dakota" she simply responded. The girl sounded bored, Madlyn didn't blame her. Standing up, she stretch her long arms above her. "I'll see you around Laura" hunger pain struck, so her stomach rumble. She wanted something to eat, before she tackle all seven flights of stairs to the Gryffindor common room.
