Seventh Years: Lesson One

Angel lounged back in his chair, waiting for the class to arrive, swinging his feet from a nearby bench once enough of the class had entered the greenhouse. It was always interesting to note who had made it through the gauntlet of their upper year classes to survive to NEWT levels.

Hey guys, welcome to your first NEWT level herbology class,” he said, rubbing his hands together to get started. Hopefully no one got maimed this year. “By this point I doubt you need to me to impress how important your NEWTs are, or how much work it’ll require, you managed your OWLs and survived last year, so I figure you’re well and truly aware what you’re getting into this year.” Angel could barely remember his own final school year himself, it seemingly having passed in a haze of caffeine and poor life choices, but most of the kids here so far seemed to be the responsible type by the time they hit his classes, thank Merlin, he'd already dealt with enough trouble from younger students in Slytherin to last him a lifetime.

This year’s module is Dangerous Plants II, just like Dangerous Plants I, but twice the danger. It will mostly be a review year, but I’ve still got a few fun surprises for you guys. Most of which are going to require gloves, so don’t get too comfortable,” he said with a sly grin. Hopefully they wouldn’t be seeing any serious maiming this year.

For those of you who might like a chance to read ahead a little, we’ll be covering most of the plants you’ve covered from the previous years, 3 points to any student who can name one?” He said quickly, picking a few student he saw raise a hand at random to answer. “Perfect we'll be covering some of those, along with some new faces like the lovely Mimbulus Mimbletonia and Venomous Tentacula.” Angel checked his pocket watch before snapping it closed, deciding to wrap it up there. “That’ll be all for now, welcome back, I’ll see you guys next class,” he said, flicking the greenhouse door open with a lazy wave of his wand and bidding the students goodbye.

RP an attendance post and check out the Class Policy if you haven't already. Feel free to name any plant you’ve covered Years 1-6 for some house points.

If there was one thing he could say about Professor Castillo it was that he was never boring. He really liked Herbology too, and he’d told Mikael multiple times that he wanted to work more with Herbology, he wanted to have a whole green room of plants. It would be heard to have whilst he was living at home with Mum and Bryce, just until Mikael graduated at least, it would be easier to save up the galleons that way. Mikael was too rich for his own good sometimes. As Professor Castillo kicked off the lesson, he snorted. Dangerous Plants II? That sure sounded like a good time, and he wondered what these plants would be like. In Seventh year they would be the most dangerous to work with, right? Yeah, he wasn’t getting too comfortable with these plants for sure. When the professor threw out a challenge question, he raised his hand. “How about Screechsnap? Pretty sure mine still holds a grudge from last year,” he laughed, thinking of Mikael the Screechsnap and not Mikael the boyfriend. He leaned back as the class continued until it’s end and he was certainly looking forward to whatever chaos would unfold.

Savannah walked into the herbology classroom and took her usual spot in the room. She glanced to the professor as the man started speak and as she took out a couple of things for the lesson, but she was right in thinking that this lesson wouldn’t have too much that she needed to write down. She nodded as he told them about what they’d be covering, but that it was a review year, which she didn’t mind, given how they were moving ever closer to the NEWTs. She didn’t raise her hand, letting others do that until the professor then dismissed them.

The final year, and the term was just beginning. Cassius Styx could hardly be in a bad mood now. He spent some time with his girlfriend and was going to be graduating soon. He needed to get good grades so that he could do well afterward. He wanted to prove to his family that he was someone that was not to be overlooked. Cass got dressed and grabbed his bag. He was going to get a good job after this, a place, and if he and Aubrie were still together, maybe move her in after she graduated. If she wanted to anyway. Cass left the Slytherin house and headed out to his class. First lesson of the term, it was going to be easy. It was always introductory.

Cass walked in the greenhouse and sat down in his usual seat. He knew what he signed up for this year, and with his grades, he expected nothing less than perfection. He heard the title, which was Dangerous Plants II, which was worse than the previous year. He doubted that, but who knew. They could read ahead, and how they would be covering the plants that they covered previously. Cass raised his hand, but he was not chosen to answer. Figures. He wrote down the names of the two plants that were mentioned, and left the greenhouse. He still wondered how this would be worse than the Devil's Snare they saw last year.

Roo was looking forward to her last semester of Herbology. She had learnt quite a lot in the class and was seriously considering taking some of those skills into the real world once she had left Hogwarts. As she entered the classroom for her first lesson of her last semester, she took a seat near the front of the room, eager to get started.

As the professor started the lesson, Roo made sure to write down some notes. They were going to learn about some dangerous plants that semester and Roo couldn't wait to get started on it. She had been waiting practically her whole school life to learn about how dangerous plants could be. After all, she knew that it wasn't all rainbows and sunshine, especially with how temperamental she knew nature could be. She thanked the professor at the end of the lesson before heading straight to her next class.

Leah couldn’t believe she was down to her last semester at Hogwarts. But it wasn’t like she had time to dwell on the sadness of it all with her classes and prefect duties. In some ways she was grateful to be so busy. She rushed across the grounds to make sure she made it to the first Herbology lesson on time. She tried to take her seat subtly but wasn’t sure if she succeeded but she took out her things to take notes with anyways. She wrote down the plants they’d be covering this semester and was glad to hear they’d be doing some review as well. Thankfully the lesson was short and she packed up her things to leave once they were dismissed.
