Second Years, Lesson One

"Hello, everyone," Gabrielle greeted, giving the class a small smile and nod as they took their seats. She didn't really mind where they sat too much, as long as they didn't start chattering and disturbing the class. "Now, I apologise for not having been with you for your first year, but I'm Professor Moncrieffe, and I am your professor through fourth year History of Magic. You don't need to be too formal with me, but don't be rude to me or to each other." It had been a personal matter keeping her away, and she wasn't about to give the students the details. It was important to set ground rules for the class, and maintain them. "Makes it easier for me to do the same back." She hoped that would lighten the mood a little. There were plenty of teachers she'd come across in her time who didn't respect their students. They were usually the worst kind.

"This year we'll be looking at a couple of major figures in history, and we'll be writing a few essays as well. I'll go over essay writing in class if you would like. I'm not looking for perfect structure at this stage, but we'll work up towards improving your writing over time." She gave a sympathetic smile to the class. It wasn't the most thrilling subject to talk about, but it was important for all their subjects, not just History of Magic. "You'll thank me when you get to your OWLs and NEWTs. But before you tune out, because it's the fiftieth anniversary of this school I have a special project especially for you, second years, that we'll get into later in the semester. Not only are you going to learn about people who've made history, you're going to make some yourself." Gabrielle was aware she was perhaps overselling it, but she was rather looking forward to this project.

"Just a short lesson today. I won't keep you too long, as I'm sure you have plenty of gossiping about your holidays to do," Gabrielle joked, raising an eyebrow at the class. "If you're struggling with the class, please tell me before you fall too far behind. I can't help you if you don't say anything. We're here to help, but I'm not a mind reader and I can't necessarily help you unless you tell me what you need." Gabrielle gave a pointed look, smoothing down her robes again. "If you do want to do further study in History, or just further study generally, tell me. If you need the restricted section, within reason, or just general research guidance that's what I'm here for. Anyway, that's all for today. Go on and get fresh air and make the most of not getting hand cramps."

Homework
RP the lesson. Please make sure to read over the Classroom Policy!

Nico walked into the history of magic classroom and took his usual spot in the room. his gaze moved to the professor at the front of the room. He took out his notes and books as the professor got started, but didn't write anything down. The professor was mostly just doing an introduction to the professor and to what they would be covering in the semester going forward. it was a short lesson and Nico was then pleased to be able head off soon after it got started.

History had always fascinated Hinemoa, and she was pleased to have it on her schedule to start the year off. She settled in to her seat, surprised when all Professor Moncrieffe gave them was a brief overview. She was a bit disappointed not to have learned any new trivia she could bother her mum about, but she wasn't going to say no to a bit of free time, leaving the classroom when class was over.
