Second Years, Lesson Four

Landon paced the Greenhouse patiently for his students to arrive. He leaned against the desk with his Mandrake in front of him, and once everyone arrived he began his lesson straight away. "Hey guys! Settle down and we'll check on our Mandrakes." The professor waved his wand and the doors shut. "Retrieve your journal and writing utensils." After his eyes saw every quill, ink, and journal out, he continued, "Your Mandrake is in their shortest stage. This stage is... almost similar to their childhood. They tend to giggle more and play games in this stage. They require greater amounts of water, food, and a bit more sun. Now, look at the leaves. They are becoming more flamboyant in not only colour, but texture. They now have more of a velvety texture. Be sure to touch them gently if you wish." Landon's fingers softly traced the leaves of his root. The Mandrake giggled, as expected.

"Now then, I will give you some time to play with your mandrakes. When you are done, remember to give them food and water. Remember how we fed them last lesson to make sure they can reach the food. Once they are full, put them into sunlight so they can soak up some rays. I'll be walking around, looking at your progress, if you have any questions. Once you are finished, you may be dismissed." Landon finished explaining as he started walking around the greenhouse. He surveyed all of his students as they started their recordings and helped a couple of people that needed it, whether it be with finding them a place to keep their mandrake for the night or giving them ideas of what to write in their journals. He rather enjoyed helping his students and smiled and waved goodbye to them at the end of his lesson, glad that the lesson was pretty successful.

Assignment: RP the lesson. Feel free to RP Landon going around and helping your character as well. Don't forget to write your next journal entry too as this is a requirement for full marks.

Christa was still a little hesitant about this whole thing, but she was trying really hard not to show that. She looked around the greenhouse at everyone else as they were heading towards their mandrakes and she sighed, but turned to Professor Carter and gave him a thumbs up. She was going to try her best, and do what she could today because she wanted him to know that she really did appreciate his help. She asked Professor Carter if she could care for her mandrake closer to him, so that if she did anything wrong he would be able to correct her, and she didn’t want to get half way through her mandrake care only to realise she had been doing the whole thing wrong. The fact they were meant to be giggly at this stage wasn’t helping her situation, she felt, but she was trying very hard to trust the process. She swallowed her discomfort when the mandrake started actually giggling at her and let it wriggle about. She tried desperately not to flinch. She poked the food pellets into the soul and watered it a little more generously this time because it looked a little dry. She found a nice sunny corner to place it and then headed over to Professor Carter. “It’s doing okay… I think, thanks for the help.”
Well, it was particularly wriggly today, I think it can sense my hesitation, but we managed to get through it together, or I got through it and it endured it, hard to say which. I don't like this stage any more or any less than previous, but it could have been worse. I watered it a little more than last time and added an extra pellet, I hope we can do better next time.

Miles was already in a bad mood before he arrived at the greenhouse, and just knowing he was going to have to deal with the annoying mandrakes again was just putting him in an even worse mood. How were they expected to play with a stupid mandrake, anyway? He couldn't help the wrinkle of his nose as he fixed his earmuffs because he really didn't fancy ending up in the Hospital Wing anytime soon. Admittedly, he didn't pay great attention to his mandrake as he probably should, doing the very bare minimum just so he could get through the lesson without it complaining too much or dying on him. Miles was just pleased once they were dismissed, wasting no time in taking the earmuffs off and leaving the classroom as fast as he possibly could.

Finley slid into his station and looked at his mandrake. He quickly retrieved his journal and wrote out what he was going to do with the mandrake before actually doing it so he could get it out of the way, it was all going to be the same stuff anyway, so he didn’t really see the need to do anything particularly different and he didn’t foresee there being any additional problems or anything. He scanned the leaves to make sure there were no spots or anything and then watered the mandrake who seemed rather relieved for it if he was honest. He grinned and quickly jumped out of the way when it tried (and failed) to flick water at him. He knew better than to tease the mandrake though because they had a habit of remembering things like that and it would probably get him back later. He twisted some pellets into the soil and then finished up the class.
