Second Years Lesson Five

Mallory smiled as her students came into the classroom. Peter wasn't with her today- he had gone to spend a few days with his father. She stood. “Alright, darlings, today we’re going to have a bit of fun with this lesson. Does anyone remember the game of hide and go seek?” She asked, her Russian accent light. She used to play it all the time as a child, and Dimitri always won. She smiled as the students looked at her in confusion, chuckling softly. "The spell for today is Homenum Revelio. Can anybody tell me what it does?" She asked, calling on a student. She smiled warmly, nodding at them. "Very good, dorogoy, two points for you. Homenum Revelio is a spell that reveals the presence of humans within a specific room or area. The location of the humans or the humans themselves are then indicated by a marker to which only the caster can see,"

Mallory walked slowly along the front of the room, looking to each of the students in turn. "Those who have been discovered by the spell are likely to feel something swooping over their head," She continued to pace slowly in front of the class. "Wand movement is just holding your wand out and incantation is Homenum Revelio. Repeat after me,” Malloy ran through the pronunciation with the students a few times, smiling when she was sure they had all gotten it.

“Now, leave your things and follow me so you can practice your spells, do make sure to grab your wands," she said with a small grin and headed for the door, waiting for her students to follow her, a small notebook in her hands. She made sure each student had their wand as they left the classroom, then led them once again to the second floor.

Once they were on the second floor, she turned her attention back to them. "Now. As I said earlier, you'll all be playing Hide and Go Seek. One of you will seek the others for a maximum of five minutes each. And each of you are all given half a minute to hide. If you weren't found by the first seeker, it's alright if you stay in your spot until someone finds you. Just make sure to come out if I am the one who calls out," Mallory chuckled, wondering how many would be able to survive this game.
"Each of you will get to play seeker and for each classmate you find, I'll give you a certain number of house points. Remember to stay on this floor for the game, alright? So, you can be the first seeker," she said with a grin as she pointed to one of the students who was closest to her. "Oh! And all the doors are locked right now. So, good luck. Everybody ready?" she could see that at least some were eager to get this game going. She just hoped though that some of them were smart enough to actually use Homenum Revelio for this little game. It was quite useful for things like this after all, especially since they had limited time to seek. "Go!" she announced. and with a chuckle she supervised the game, making sure to tally how many classmates each of her students found, and adding a few points to the student that never got caught. Soon enough, the last seeker's five minutes were up and with a few reminders, she had sent them off to get their things and class was dismissed.

-limit of three student finds per seeker-

Winnie was revising hard. She knew she probably didn’t need to be studying as much as she was, but Winnie also knew that she had to do well. She needed to be working hard, she needed to do well so that her mother wouldn’t be annoyed with her. Getting perfect grades really was only part of it. But it was a major part of it. She finished up what she’d been reading right on time to then be able to get ready and then head to class.

Winnie walked into the charms classroom and she took her usual spot in the room. She rolled her eyes a little, trying to hide it somewhat, why would they being doing anything close to what children played. They weren’t children after all. She was a little caught up in her own thoughts that she didn’t raise her hand to answer the question. Instead she just listened to what was said and then repeated the incantation and wand movement with the professor and then they went to ‘play’. She paired up with someone and got straight to it, it took a few attempts for her to get the spell, but she managed to find the person she was partner. She liked the spell. It was good, a good one for them to know.

The end of the semester was coming hard and fast and Eli still dreaded having to show up for Charms class. He wished he knew why things had to be so annoyingly complicated, he didn't like the professor and he felt like things with his brother just weren't going at all to plan - well truth be told they weren't going anywhere at all. That was the worst part about it all. He needed to work harder, but he could hardly figure out what parts he needed to work hard on, and that was probably the biggest problem, he was too worried about whether or not what he was saying or doing was going to cause even more problems with his brother, but then, maybe he was just overreacting.

He sat in his usual spot near Sayuri at the back of the class because he really didn't want to have to deal with the professor today. He didn't want to deal with a lot of things today, but people seemed to like forcing the issue. He definitely didn't bother answering the question, instead opting to just get through the lesson as fast as he could so he could leave, he really didn't want to be here any longer than was absolutely necessary and the less he had to talk to this professor the better for his mental state. He practiced the incantation and the wand movement along with everyone else and then paired up with Sayuri, because he really didn't care to deal with anyone else today.

Charms was one of the classes that Jonah struggled with the most and whilst he was glad he had it first semester so he could help Jonah if he needed it, he felt like he would have been able to help him a lot better in this class, if he was able to share the class with him, not that he could just say that, he didn't want Jonah to start thinking he was incapable - he wasn't, just the he got easily lost sometimes. The whole thing with Tori was still kind of crazy and he didn't really know what to think, after all, he still wasn't sure he even totally understood what had happened, but then maybe it wasn't any of his business and he just needed to let Demi and Tori work it out - only it did sort of sound like that had no intentions of doing that. Still, what was he supposed to do if they just hated each other. He frowned at that thought because he would really have liked to know why.

He sat with Winnie, taking a couple of notes as he needed to. He liked sitting with Winnie because she seemed to at least enjoy the class most of he time, which wasn't to be said for some of his other classmates apparently. That was okay though, he knew how cool charms could be and if his peers didn't want to run with that, that was their loss honestly. He followed long with the spell, the tone and pronunciation a couple of times to make sure he had it right before pairing up for some proper practice. He found he was really quite quick with charms, picking them up a lot easier than he did with any other spell. That was a nice thought, he liked being good at something.

Sayuri entered Charms classroom and made a beeline to sit with Eli. Thankfully, they were once again without the baby in this class, although she did frown at the mention of hide-and-go-seek. Apparently, the professor had it in her mind that it would be fun for thirteen-year-olds to play such a juvenile game. Still, the spell could be useful, but was there really no other way to practice this spell than playing? With a sigh, she repeated the incantation to herself, "Homenum Revelio," she murmured until she was confident she had it down. When the professor announced they would leave the classroom to practice, Sayuri grabbed her wand and stuck close to her brother as she rolled her eyes regarding the activities. As a hider, Sayuri barely made any effort to do so. As a seeker, she just cast the spell repeatedly, mostly bored. It was easy enough to find Eli and Walden-Cade. The third - a girl from Ravenclaw - really was just luck on her part, but it wasn't like Sayuri was going to say no to more points. By the end of the game, Sayuri was just about done and was perfectly glad to leave the class with her brother. She wanted to talk to him about the Hufflepuffs - Jonah and Eurydice.

After her failure to succeed in last weeks lesson and charm Lilith had spent way too many hours trying to get the spell right, she had eventually got it but it had taken longer than she would like to admit. The Ravenclaw had vowed to not let her personal matters affect her school work like that, but it was easier said than done and she found her mind wandering a lot these past few weeks. It was easy to say it was the conflict in the rear view mirror that had caused the girl such anxiety, but it was also something she hated.

Lilith entered the Charms classroom, feeling confident she could do better this week and gave a hesitant smile to the professor. She settled somewhere along her classmates, not caring to be too close to the front this time. As they were told what they'd be doing Lilith could see that some of her classmates were displeased with the idea of doing child-like activities. Raising her hand at the question she answered, having done her reading prior to the lesson. "Reveals any humans within the specific area." It almost made the game seem like everyone was cheating, if they just used magic to find each other, didn't that take away the fun of it? Never the less Lilith did as told, hiding when someone else was the seeker. She was found a few times and when it came her turn to seek her nerves were boiling over. The thought of having to succeed this way in front of others had her throat thick with anxiety. "Homenum Revelio," She mumbled, focusing on the feel of her wand and the slight flow of magic from it, by the end of it she managed to find two of her classmates and almost a third before her time was up, in fact she found the last one just as the time ran out so she wasn't exactly sure if that counted. Honestly Lilith was just glad her turn was over.
