Second Year Lesson Four

At times, there were spells that were taught in this class the Professor Adler didn't always agree with. Or perhaps, she didn't quite agree with how they were being taught. When she was at school, sat at these desks like her students were now, things had been very different when Professor Styx had been teaching her, and perhaps she should have called upon his influence now as she considered the best way of teaching the students. Of course, the curriculum had changed a little since those days, but it didn't mean she couldn't adopt a new old approach.

"Today we'll be discussing the knee-reversing hex. Of course this spell is also a prank, however it's harder to use than others so I don't expect you to try this one out today." There would be students that would want to, and Professor Adler wasn't going to limit those that wanted to give it a go, but it was expected given its difficulty in casting. "Why would a spell like this have been created in the first place?" she asked the class, moving around the desks, ignoring those who'd raised their hands. "Why would someone want to use a spell that reverses someone's knees?" The blonde continued, "and what could you do to protect yourself from it?" She hoped they would at least have some idea at this point, but the proof would be in their homework. "I don't want you to tell me, I want you to write it down and hand it in to me at the end of the class. I feel as though I don't need to explain what exactly a knee-reversing jinx looks like, you're all capable of imagining this one for yourselves. That being said if you would like to practice, you can of course try it out on a dummy."

Professor Adler perched on the front of her desk. While knowing some of these spells would be good for pranks, she had to admit she'd never been one for using magic against other people for the purpose of humiliation. Even during her own duels in the tournament, she'd chosen practical spells over those that were designed to be funny. "Next week we will be going into some of the more usual spells, one's that you probably won't see very often but it's good to be aware of their existence." Professor Adler was just looking forward to teaching them the more serious defensive magic.

The knee-reversing hex was definitely one of the spells Christa didn't think she would ever be comfortable using thank you very much. It seemed like one of those spells that would be a problem, right? How could reversing someone's knees not make it incredibly difficult to walk, what if she accidentally knee-capped someone? No, no thank you. This was not the kind of spell she'd wanted to learn when she walked into he classroom today, but nevertheless (and because she respected Professor Adler) she was going to do her best here. So she used some of her parchment to write about the spell a little, not really wanting to have do anything with the spell specifically.

Finley arrived mostly on time to class, balancing his wand on his finger as she showed some of the others in class, before the lesson actually started. He wasn't particularly fond of jinxes, mostly because she'd spent some time with his dad at St Mungos and he knew what the Knee Reversing hex could do, it was one of those things that could backfire and then people ended up in the spell damage ward, but he'd never properly been allowed in there. Disabling a threat quickly? That sounded like a different spell entirely, and imagine having to walk around with reversed knees. He shook his head, that didn't sound like it was very fun. He quickly got busy doing the work, and working on the spell before the class was over and he was able to leave.

Miles enjoyed his defence class and really enjoyed getting to practice throwing as many spells as he could at the training dummies So, he more than pleased when they were getting to practice yet another spell, jumping up from his seat, wand already in his hand as he moved towards the training dummies to get started. It would be more fun to get to practice on some of his classmates, but he supposed he did understand why they weren't doing that. Instead, he concentrated on what he was doing and practiced the hex over and over and over again until they were all finally dismissed from class for the day.
