Second Year Charms Lesson Four

She smiled as the students came into class, standing from her chair. She'd spoken to Sam, and between the few days he spent with his father and the babysitting her fellow Professor offered, Mallory'd gotten several of her lessons covered. "Hello, everyone. Take your seats, thank you," she smiled. "Alright, today's lesson is very simple. I trust you've done your reading?" She folded her hands, walking slowly along the front of the room, continuing on with the class. "The Repello charm is the opposite of the Accio charm. The charm is fairly self-explanatory; it repels things away from the target.” She laughed lightly. “There isn’t really very much to explain about this,” She told them, eyes scanning the room.

The wand movement is simply pointing at your target and focusing your magic. The incantation is Repello, along with the name of what you wish to repel. For example,” Mallory turned, pointing her wand at a book on her desk. “Repello book,” she spoke firmly, and the book skidded away from her and off the end of her desk. It hit the floor with a clatter.

She smiled, motioning for the students to get up. “Gather your things, everyone, we’re going outside for the rest of this lesson. Come along,” she ushered them all out, taking them out to the Gardens on the school grounds. She smiled when the students had all settled. Peter was still out like a light, warm and content against her chest. “Now everyone. Please do be careful; for today's lesson I want you to practice repelling insects and worms away from the plants. Once you’ve succeeded, you can leave, but please tell me first.” She smiled warmly, folding her hands in front of her. “I will be right here if any of you need anything.”

Tori was terribly excited about being able to pracitce outside. Being in a classroom all the time just made her feel so stuffy, like the candle light and the small bits of sun rays that got through just weren’t enough. She loved any lesson that allowed her to go outside because why wouldn’t she want that? Tori dropped to the ground near some flowers as soon as they reached the gardens, and she looked around for anything disgusting she might be able to test this new spell on. She didn’t really stop to think about whether they should be trying this, but she’d crushed bugs under a mug before and this seemed more humane somehow. When she found a bug, she didn’t care what type, she aimed her wand at it. “Repello bug!” and then watched as it skidded across the dirt like it was on ice. Cool, she thought, that’s gonna come in handy! She looked around for another and found a small army of ants, but she thought that might be stretching her skills a bit and then finally settled on what she thought might be a grasshopper. She practiced getting the strength of the spell right bafore she dusted herself off and returned to the professor. “I think I got it Professor!”

Eurydice stepped outside with the rest of the class, her expression clearly of displeasure as she took in her surroundings. Outside. She couldn't even stand the beetles in Transfiguration class and now she'd have to actively look for them? No. No way. And so she absolutely refused to move from where she was in the middle of the clearing in the garden, stood away from all the plants, and actively tried to ignore everyone else around her flicking insects about. Nope. She was not doing it.

Felix didn't mind charms so much, it was one of those practical classes, he supposed. Today they'd be learning another new spell, and they were taught to cast it before heading outside. The Gryffindor thought it was a bit strange, the way that some students didn't want to fling bugs around, especially when they didn't mind casting spells on their classmates at times. The second year got to work with the spell, making sure to aim at a variety of creatures while they had the chance to, and hoped that if he was going to use it on a bigger subject at some point, it would have the same efficiency.

William made a face when Professor Grayveson introduced the repello charm as the opposite of the summoning charm, because it very much wasn’t, that would be the banishing charm but he wasn’t about to make a scene out it. He listened to the rest of the lesson and when it was time to practice, for that they headed outside and had to practice repelling bugs and insects, which was gross. He practiced several times on different bugs, trying to get them off their respective leaves. Once he finally managed to do so he informed the professor and left.

Nox didn't step into the classroom this time because they were going to be conducting the lesson outside, which meant they were probably learning a slightly more destructive spell. He eyed a large beetle after the professor had finished telling them about what they would be doing today and smirked when he found one he liked. He practiced the spell a couple of times to make sure he was getting it right as he continued to search for the next bug, or beetle or insect. He tried to make sure he was keeping the balance even and going a little larger each time just to make sure he could. Once they were finished, he picked up his bag and left.
