So, do we have to wait until we're sorted to buy things from Diagon Alley, such as our wand? And then, how do we open up a Gringotts account, because I saw that it looks sort of inactive in there, so I'm a tad confused.

Well, Diagon Alley doesn't exist - because this is New Zealand. 
On HNZ it's "Obsidian harbour" that is more or less the Diagon Alley equivalent.
Gringotts is hardly inactive, but you don't get an account there until you're sorted - as stated in the General FAQ documentation. As you can't shop without a Gringotts Account that also means you can't buy things until sorting opens in September.
