Did his parents have a bet on how many times they could do things to surprise him before he really got upset? First his dad didn’t tell them that he was going to be Head of House, or maybe it had just been Lumos he didn’t tell? It was one thing to have one parent at the school, but he didn’t know how many kids had two parents. How was he supposed to do his own thing and be his own man if he had it from all sides? His mother hadn’t bothered to tell him she was going to be at the school this year, he didn’t know how long it was going to be, was she only here for a semester? a year? permanently? Where was Professor Waldgrave? He didn’t like professor Waldgrave, sure, but that didn’t mean he wanted his mother here? Okay, that was also a bit of a lie because he missed her a lot when he was at school, he was used to seeing her all the time and when she wasn’t around he found things difficult to deal with. And whilst, sure, it would be nice to see her more often, he was still a little annoyed that no one had thought to tell him. Especially after the big production he’d made about not seeing mum against until Christmas, since he really hated being mumless for months. They could have at least said something. So he was glad to see her, but come on mum, you should have said something.

Amory was enjoying his food when he noticed a few changes. First their DADA professor seemed to be lost in mail and there was a new one in his place. A good change, however a more unpleasant change was the sour face of his roommate sitting across from him, if Amory hadn't thought Lumos had a pretty face normally, looking like someone took a piss in your cereal definitely didn't make it better. "Did someone steal your lollipop Lulu?" The Slytherin asked, a hint of amusement lacing his tone. "Was it one of the professors then?" He added looking in the same direction before returning his eyes to Lumos.

Honestly it had been worth the summer charade of keeping up the secret to Lumos. The entire family had known that Geo would be returning to Hogwarts albeit it for the short term, all except their Slytherin offspring. The woman knew it would surprise him, although for all his whining in the holidays about being able to get away from her, she knew that her son had a somewhat of soft spot. It was probably why he got on so well with Eden.

It had been surreal to be back in the castle, working alongside with those she either called family, school friends, or her old professors, but she was excited to be able to get a front row seat when it came to her children and how they were getting on. With Bailey's final year, it was the only time she had to witness all five of her step children under one roof and she'd been delighted to transfer even if it was temporary.

Geo had excused herself from the professors table once the feast was underway, heading first toward her son and his group of friends. Or at least, she assumed as such. She'd only met one of his friends so far, when the Ravenclaw had come to theirs during the holiday, but she figured he was probably close with some in his own house too. "Is it already Christmas?" Geo asked, reaching over beside the third year to pick up a chocolate covered raisin before popping it into her mouth.

Lumos shot Amory the kind of look that withered crops and curdled milk at the lollipop comment, rolling his eyes. “Yeah, someone did, and then they set it on fire and danced on the ashes,” he sighed and then shook his head, stabbing a piece of the egg he had been starting to eat when he first noticed her at the table. He was being a bit more vicious with his food than he strictly needed to be he supposed, but it was a lot of feelings right now. Look, he liked a good prank but not when he was the butt of it. he barely had time to explain to Amory what was going on when she appeared, his mother, at their table, cool as you like, and she stole food from him too, because she couldn’t just steal his life. He frowned and looked over at her, slumping dramatically in his seat. Seeing her face did make his chest tighten though, because he always missed her when she wasn’t around and he’d been gearing up to miss her this semester - her and Eden, really, well all the younger siblings, but Eden was not so secretly his favourite. “No, it’s not Christmas, it’s betrayal season.”

He gestured between his mum and Amory, “Mum, this is Amory, Amory this is the Megatron,” which he wasn’t sure his mother would get, but he could always explain it later. He turned to glare half-heartedly at his mum, pouting. “You could have told me, you know, especially after you let me embarrass myself in front of every at dinner that I wouldn’t have to see you until December,” he complained, waving his fork dramatically before dropping it on the table. Despite the dramatics though, and the sulking, there was a very obvious smile twitching at the corner of his mouth he was finding hard to smother. And so, instead of continuing to play it up, he stood up and wrapped his arms around his mum’s waist, pressing himself against her because he missed her. Even though he only just saw her, he’d thought he would not see her for months, and he’d let himself work up to the missing part early to get it out of the way. “Love you mum.”

Amory watched as the blonde new professor made her way towards them, uh oh it must have been her who stole Lulu's lollipop and set it on fire while dancing on the ashes. Amory decided he was best pretending to be on his best behaviour, meaning just continuing to eat like nothing happened. However he watched as his roommates demeanour changed as he introduced the woman as his mum. A twinge of envy mixed with a load of amazement rushed through the Slytherin's blood as he watched the interaction. He'd never had a mum, or a parent for that matter, around. Before any of those feelings could truly blossom Amory made sure to bury them deep deep deep down and put a lock on it just in case. "Good to meet you finally ma'am, I have heard lots of you!" He said with a boyish grin, eyes darting away from their hug and back to his food as Lumos confessed his love to his mum.

The corners of the professors lips curled upward at Lumos calling it betrayal season. Geo turned her attention for a moment to Amory, the boy sat nearby and gave him a bigger smile too. "Ma'am?" That was a first for her. "You're welcome to call me Geo," he told him. Usually to her students she preferred Professor Adler, but if she was talking to someone in relation to one of her children's friends then she wasn't going to make them call her professor in that sense. "I've heard a lot about you too, Amory.. Raven?" she recalled, having seen his name in her enrollment list too. "I look forward to seeing you both in class this year," Geo shot a look to Lumos, knowing that last year hadn't exactly been the best for his defense grades. For someone with two parents working in the subject, Geo hoped he'd at least pass the classes.

Having raised four boys Geo knew what Megatron was, although she was a little surprised to hear Lumos refer to her in that way. "Where would that fun have been in that?" she grinned, recalling his outburst over dinner and how she'd continued not to mention a thing until now. Geo hadn't had to worry about embarrassing her children while at Ilvermorny, but as Lumos got out from the bench and wrapped his arms around her, the professor couldn't help herself. She squeezed him back in return, knowing it wouldn't be long until he was much too old and frankly too tall to be able to hug in this way, and planted a kiss in his blonde curls, "Love you too," she added quietly. She hadn't expected Lumos to be so forward while surrounded by his classmates, but she wasn't about to waste the opportunity. "Go on, finish your dinner," she was the first to pull away but only because she didn't want the Slytherin to linger for long enough that he ended up with unwanted attention from his housemates. "I'll be seeing both of you tomorrow," Geo pointed both to her own son and then Amory, "Don't be late," with a small smile, Geo headed away from the table to move on to the Hufflepuffs.
