Jacob hadn't asked Onyx to the dance even though it was probably the least he could have done considering he hadn't sent him a rose either. Not even a yellow one. He'd sent one to Sapphire so it wasn't as if he'd forgotten. Jacob would certainly say he had if asked, but the truth was that he was trying to get Onyx to yell at him, to break off what might have been, because he was too scared to do it on his own. Jacob just didn't like the idea of dating one person even if it was Onyx who was fun and talented and all around great. It was just too perfect for Jacob and he knew relationships couldn't be. They all inevitably ended, his grandparents, his mom's ones the only exception. So he didn't want to bother.

Jacob sat pondering all of this from a table on the sidelines, a plate full of snacks before him, a pair of jeans and a plain black T-shirt, as he watched some of the others. Hudson and another guy. He hadn't spoken to Hudson in forever. Lizzie was there too and he almost considered heading over to ask her for a dance but stopped when he spotted another teammate talking to her. Her dress really had been perfect like she'd claimed.

Elio hadn't been sure whether to go to this Valentines ball or whatever. He had never had a reason to, and it just seemed to be another excuse for everyone to have a party. He'd seen a number of the girls especially, in his common room on the way past, dressed up in so much make up and fancy dresses, that it really looked like they were making a big effort for the night. It was sort of funny to the second year, who thought that all these people should really just be having fun at school, instead of going around acting like adults. They'd have enough time for that when they were older, and Elio sat pondering about how it could make the night more spectacular, and one to remember.

Eventually he found himself at the Great Hall. Since he had no plans to attend properly, he was just in his usual shirt and jeans as he eyed up the event that was plastering itself around the room. If they really wanted to let their hair down this evening, pretty dresses and posh suits weren't the way to do it. Lingering around need the food table, Elio began to quietly access his options.

Abian liked the events at Hogwarts, even the mushy dances. It was nice to see people so happy, and he had to admit he enjoyed looking at the formal outfits the older students tended to wear. He had no interest in going with a date to something like this, but hoped it would be a good time to catch up with some of his friends. He wasn't sure if William would come to this, but he hoped so. It had been a while since they had talked. Abian wandered around, looking for someone to chat to. Eventually he decided a snack was almost as good as a friend, and he headed over to one of the tables with sweets. It was then that he spotted Jacob, and headed over to his friend with a grin. "Hey Jacob!" As he approached, he passed another boy he knew. "Oh, hi Elio!" He said, waving at him too. "Is this the corner for Gryffindors with glasses? I could still leave if there's a secret meeting" He said with a slight grin, looking between the two boys.

Jacob looked over, confusion on his face for a second in the moment when he went from lost in his thoughts to the present. "Oh hey, Abian" he greeted, a slow smile coming across his face. He liked the Hufflepuff, found him friendly and fun and brave ever since their last encounter. He looked curiously in the direction Abian had glanced, spotting another boy there he hadn't noticed before. He'd seen him around Gryffindor but didn't know him much. Still, he couldn't not play along. "He's on to us, Elio" Jacob stated in a serious voice, hoping the other boy would join the fun. "What do you say? Should we let him join the club or...?" he cut a finger across his throat, his tongue sticking out before letting a smirk betray that he was joking. He cut a glance at Abian before turning back to the guy who had been called Elio.
