It had been some time since Isla had last been a mother. The loss of her first child, a son, had not done much for her relationship with her husband and it had broken down pretty quickly after that. She didn't love him, she knew she never would, but she had loved her son. Being given the opportunity to once again be a mother had been something she had not expected. As the matriarch of her family she didn't have time to run around after men and get married. She had expected she would need to think about a decision like that, but in the end, the moment she'd thought about it she'd found herself saying yes. And now she was the happy and proud mother of twins. Raisa and Azazel were the loves of her life and she loved spending every waking moment with them. Emilee was back in Scotland looking after the family affairs whilst Isla kept to herself. She didn't like the idea of having the twins anywhere near her family for any number of reasons. She wasn't entirely sure they'd forgiven her for forming an alliance with the Zhefarovich family, but at the time she saw it as the best option. As long as they kept the Zhefarovich's happy, they were safe. Her family numbers were dwindling these days and she knew they needed all the help and protection they could get.
It did not occur to Isla that her current situation could mount the tensions. She didn't care either way, she loved her children and would protect them fiercely, but Emilee could only do so much and once she was married to Bothizar, which Isla suspected would not be long away, she would not have much to do with the manor anymore. Either Isla was going to have to step back into her role as matriarch, or she was going to have to give it up to someone else. A decision she'd not expected on her shoulders at her young age. Leading from this level was not easy, but she didn't think there was any other choice. Raisa stirred in her blankets and Isla moved over to her, the bright eyes of her child staring back at her. Raisa was very alert to her surroundings even at in her second month of life. It was sometimes disconcerting how aware they sometimes appeared, but it was all the better to enjoy their solitary company.
