Closed Quiet Days

Einar knew that telling Lucas to ask would probably lead him to eagerly asking, but he seemed to stop himself. Einar could appreciate it, though he was willing to give the hugs when he felt like it and when Lucas specifically asked, but he didn’t asked, instead just reminding him that he didn’t like it. He didn’t want to push it. Wanting to keep the offer there but thinking if Lucas wasn’t interested in it, then he didn’t need to push it. He was a little surprised when Lucas then said he’d made something for his birthday, his birthday had been almost a month ago and something he wouldn’t soon forget. The first without his mother, the first one where he’d been truly alone. So, he couldn’t help the conflicting eagerness. He didn’t want to give away how warmed by it he felt. He wanted to say no, but his life was devoid of things that it would be good. ”Yeah, please,” he tried to not sound too eager.

Einar gave a quiet grin, moving over to the nightstand. He opened one of his drawers, digging through it to find the small cardboard box. He moved back onto the bed, offering it to Einar. He bit his lip, scooting a little closer, eager to see Einar's reaction to the pendant inside. "It's... kinda silly," He admitted softly. "It just..." He blushed, looking away. Maybe he shouldn't explain it. "I thought you might like it," He tried softly instead.

Einar was a little curious about what Lucas had for him, he knew it wouldn’t be anything big, but Einar also knew that he’d like it regardless. It was hard to be picky when it was the only present he’d gotten for his birthday and too that Lucas was the only one to even in part remember - but Einar knew that was just because he didn’t have anyone in his life to remember. He took the simple little box and opened it to reveal the pendant inside. He didn’t say anything as he took the necklace, holding it lightly in his hands as if it might catch fire - afraid that he might break it. He smiled at it. ”Thanks Lucas,” he loved it, of course he had. It was a perfect gift for him. Something he could carry with him. He placed it on, ”My brother used to wear one just like this,” he said softly, still lightly touching it with his fingers. ”You should ask me…” he didn’t want to reach out for the hug himself, but he wanted to give him one, so he did hope that he would ask him for one.

Lucas watched Einar nervously, visibly relaxing as Einar seemed to like it. But then he spoke, and Lucas felt his heart drop. Einar's brother? Oh no, was that bad? Had he messed up? His eyes widened and he started to panic, wanting to apologize and take back the gift, but then Einar spoke again and it confused Lucas for a moment. "Ask...?" Ask what, ask how badly he'd messed up? But then it hit him. He blinked, blushing a little. "Oh... oh, okay," He swallowed nervously, glancing down and fidgeting with the hem of his shirt. "Um- Uh, E-Einar?" He stuttered softly, suddenly feeling even more shy. "I- um, do you- I mean, um, could we- no, um..." He kicked himself. How was he supposed to ask. He sighed, giving up on words and just scooting so he was right in front of Einar, opening his arms slightly with a questioning look on his face.

Einar wasn’t sure he had said the right thing, he watched as Lucas very visibly, nervously tried to ask him if he could get a hug. It was difficult to not just step in and say something, but Einar knew he wouldn’t be able to go through with the hug if he didn’t get asked for it. He was already using this time to psych himself up for it. His eyes went between the thing in his hand to his friend. Noting that at one point he stopped saying anything, and when Einar looked he noticed that the boy just had his arms open to him. Einar smiled a little and then brought himself a bit closer to be able to very stiffly return the hug. There was something in Einar’s movements, like he just didn’t know how to hug anymore, he didn’t know what he should be doing, how he should be managing with it. He wrapped his arms around Lucas in a stiff manner, inwardly pleased for the contact but unsure of how to make his body say the same thing.

Lucas smiled when Einar leaned in, snuggling into the other boy and wrapping his arms loosely around Einar. The other boy seemed stiff, so after several long moments Lucas pulled back. He would have happily just hugged Einar for the rest of the day, but Einar was still against touching so Lucas wouldn't push too far. Mostly. "Hey," He grinned, moving over to stand. He grabbed Einar's hands and tried to pull him along. "Do you want to sneak into the kitchen for some cupcakes?" Lucas suggested with a shy smile.
