Time had stilled around her, she wasn't sure how much time had passed, but when she'd gotten her mail that morning at breakfast the news it contained within it was not something that she had ever thought possible to happen, she knew the last few years had been hard on him, difficult and strenuous but this hadn't actually happened. It bugged her more that she was in school, and couldn't do anything about it, with her exams so soon, her mother had promised they'd do something when she returned but Lydia just wanted to leave. It just, it wasn't supposed to happen like it had, it wasn't. The teen just stared forward, she'd risen early for breakfast so she could spend the whole day studying with Stefan in the library, using the quiet little staff area which he let her use to be able to better at least until she was supposed to meet with Felix to spend a section of the afternoon with him, but she had left the Owlery and just sat down and now she had no idea how much time had past nor could her mind focus on anything.

The young hufflepuff ran a hand through her hair and wiped her eyes with the back of her hand, just trying her best to figure it out, figure out the lie her mother was obviously telling her. She didn't want to listen to it and she had stuffed the paper in her pocket and was ignoring it. Lydia was pretty upset, it was clearly written on her face, she had always been extremely expressive and she had no idea how to hide the emotions on her face. What she had realised was that everything had changed, though she had feelings for Felix they were as up in the air as everything else in her life. But nothing was pushing her on to go talk to him, or to talk to anyone, she was sure that her cousin wouldn't be in work, and her brother, she needed to talk to him when she got back, but for now, she was happy to not. Dealing with her brother after this would not be fun. The teen just let out a deep sigh and just kept sitting in her seat staring out of the window, letting the day pass her by.

It had felt like forever since Felix had seen his girlfriend Lydia outside of the classroom. The semester had been difficult so far and he knew that with the exams coming up it would only get harder. At least he had the holidays to look forward to, his uncle's birthday fell in the winter holidays so there would be a very large family gathering which he was sure would have its fun moments but for the most part would be insufferable, no doubt he would be getting a lot of questions about Lydia from some of his more estranged family members who had only just heard the news. He wasn't looking forward to that.

Felix had planned to meet Lydia that afternoon so after he finished up with his lunch he dropped his bag off at the common room then made his way outside to the Owlery where he would often find Lydia, he arrived just outside the tower and found Lydia, she looked upset, it wasn't a mood he often saw Lydia in so whatever had happened must have been serious, "Lydia?" Felix spoke her name softly as he approached her. "What's wrong has something happened?"

Lydia glanced up when she heard her name being called and in a very serious tone and suddenly she was met with the face of her boyfriend, she felt her mood decline even more, she liked Felix, she knew that she did, but she didn't want anything to do with him right now, she didn't want to think about him, or have to deal with the questions he might have, he was such a sweet guy and Lydia just didn't want to do this to him. Lydia just shook her head slightly and then glanced back out at the day, she didn't even know how to put it in words how she felt, she didn't know how to talk about it, how to talk to others about it, Felix was one of the people she was closest to at the school, and one that would be bound to ask how she was, which on any other occasion wouldn't have bothered her, but she didn't need that, she didn't want that, she didn't want someone always asking how she was, making sure she was okay, Lydia knew she was fine, she'd be fine, and people didn't need to ask her that.

"Felix, we have to break up," Lydia said in a slightly uncharacteristically blunt tone, as she then looked up to meet his gaze, she stood up and then took both his hands in hers, "This was really great, and I really enjoyed being with you, but it's over," she repeated in a much nicer tone, and though half of her thought this was a huge mistake the other much louder half of her knew this was the right thing to do, she didn't want him to hate her, but she knew that this was likely something that would just happen. She couldn't even offer an explanation as to why, what had happened between them had in fact only been good things, but Lydia didn't want someone in her life that would be asking her how she was, she didn't want to talk about it, because talking about it would make it real, "I'm sorry," she apologised before letting go of his hands and hoping he would just get annoyed and leave, at least then she could be alone once more.

Felix barely had time to get comfortable or to register the fact that his girlfriend was upset before she began talking and just like that she was no longer his girlfriend. She was blunt and cold, he had never heard her speak like that before, it was almost as if this was a different Lydia to the one he had been dating for the past year. He could tell something had happened, something she didn't want to talk about, why that had led to her ending their relationship he didn't know but that was what was happening. Felix had been completely blindsided.

"Just like that? He spoke calmly, much calmer than he felt. He wanted to throw things, he wanted to yell. But there was something wrong with Lydia, she was going through something he could see it in her eyes and in her demeanour. He knew it as soon as he laid eyes on her, whatever it was rather than lean on him she was pushing him away and Felix had no choice, he had to let her. He couldn't fight for someone who didn't want to be fought for. "Fine," he said firmly. "I don't want your apologies, just take care of yourself," Felix really wanted to be mad at her but it was difficult when it was so obvious there was something else going on that he didn't know about. If Lydia wanted to push him away then fine, but he couldn't bring himself to hate her over. "Goodbye Lydia," With that he turned his back on her and walked down the steps and back out onto the grounds without looking back. If he looked back, he wouldn't be able to tear himself away from her.

Lydia couldn't help but feel awful, she knew this was the right decision to make, but it didn't make it any easier for her to do so, she didn't want to hurt his feelings or make him feel bad, he had after all done all that he could've, and their time together had been great, but this was all about her and she didn't want to have anyone who might be able to talk to her figure out what was wrong, she really didn't need that in her life. The teen wanted in a way for Felix to get angry, to be annoyed but he didn't seem to be, it would make things easier for her if she had a reason to hate him, but he didn't, he just spoke and then left, she was left standing in the same position, watching him leave, she wanted him to understand that it had nothing to do with him, but the words seemed to entirely fail her, and she just let out a long breath and sat herself back down, running a hand across her face and wiping her eyes with her sleeve. She told herself firmly to get together, to just breath, focus and move on, everything was fine and she needed to make it seem like it was. Everything was fine. With that the Hufflepuff girl left the North tower and headed back to the Hufflepuff common room, she had things to do, and a letter to burn, no point staying up there and leaving her to her thoughts, the hufflepuff just forced a smile and got to doing what she needed to do with the day.
